You can say them on other airwaves. Maybe the misapplication by the Federal Government has you convinced otherwise. What I said is I do not like the fact that this fairness doctrine may start a snowball that impedes freedom of speech. There is not a need for it, just a desire.

Why do you want to solve the problem of free speech farg?

The Airwaves are owned by The People, in Commonwealth.

THERE IS NO "FREE SPEECH" ON REGULATED AIRWAVES.

So stop pretending, or lying, about there being any in the first place.

If you disagree, I challenge you to say the following words on the radio morning show.

1. Shit

2. Piss

3. Fuck

4. Cunt

5. Cock Sucker

6. Mother Fucker

7. Tits

Lotsa Luck.

Farg where exactly is the federal government empowered to control the political content of speech?  You being a constitutionalist and all, can certainly point out that clause to me, right?

.......dunno about the US specifically, but in most civilised countries round about the time someone uses the cover of 'political' content to  incite others to break the law.......as in "killing jews/muslims/blacks/irish/teenagesinglemothers is a political act"

But that is not what we are talking about at all Philosophy.  I agree, direct incitement to violence is not covered free speech.

It's got nothing to do with the Constitution.

ARTIFICIAL LEGAL ENTITIES, SUCH AS BROADCAST COMPANIES DO NOT GET CONSTITUTIONAL PROTECTION.

They are constructs of the Law, and therefore must be obedient to whatever their Creator ( The People ) dictate.

Why would you ever spin the proper regulation of Artificial Legal Entities and/or The People's Airwaves as any "Free Speech" issue?

SAY WHATEVER YOU WANT, WHENEVER YOU WANT. The Peoples RIGHT to Free Speech is unrestricted... Please note that I do NOT condone the cut-out of "Hate or Inciteful Speech" from the Right, myself.

Of course, I consider PEOPLE, and CORPORATIONS to be two entirely different classes.

Of course, if a COPORORATION, A LICENSED BROADCASTER chooses to permit you to say it on the air, they *SHOULD* be held to the minimum standard of presenting those with opposing viewpoints for a rebuttal. If they don't like the rules, they can give up their license. Just like you driving your car.

You don't have "Freedom" in your car, you obey the damn Law, or you pay fines and lose your license.

You don't have "Freedom" on the airwaves, you obey the damn Law, or you pay fines and lose your license.

I guess you do have "Freedom" in a sense... Not Freedom to despoil a shared resource held in Commonwealth, but rather Freedom to be responsible for the consequences of your choices.

If a broadcaster doesn't like the "Fairness Doctrine", then they can disobey, and pay the penalties. They should stop fucking whining about it, though.

I guess the situation would be different if Rush was buying the airtime, like any other advertiser, I'm guessing the margins on the crap his show sells isn't all that lucrative, though. ( How many millions did Sirius put in Howard Stern's pocket for leaving broadcast for satellite??? )

luckydog1 -> RE: Rush limbaugh calls troops against war, phony soldiers (10/8/2007 10:43:15 AM)

Farg, you are again confusing what you wish the law was with the actuall  law.  Which is very anti constittuional, maybe its not against your made up constitution.  You have not been elected Congress and President to pass and sign a law.  So you wish to supress speech, and set the govetrnment in controll of what can be said, scary.

farglebargle -> RE: Rush limbaugh calls troops against war, phony soldiers (10/9/2007 5:16:19 AM)

Correct. The REAL SOLUTION is to get rid of FCC Licensing and Oversight completely.
