quote:
ORIGINAL: velvetears You know i have no issue with people being atheists but that doesn't mean one has to go around ridiculing everyone who chooses to believe god exists. Nor is it appealing to see something that people respect being denigrated and made fun of. It's tasteless, tedious, and i am tired of seeing it played out over and over again on the threads. Don't believe, that's your right, but leave the rest of us alone. We don't want your ridicule or sarcasm. Please, I assure you, I'd tease people who believe that the world is flat; that witchcraft spells actually work; that they're, infact, Elvis; that aliens probe their anus on a biweekly basis; or, well, anything of the sort, really, the same way. I know religious people don't like being teased. Not many people do. However, the idea of "respect" is often too confused. Legally, we must "respect" a belief in the manner of acknowledging that the belief itself exists and that possessing the belief should not legally penalize the individual. Would you make fun of a man who ran around all of the time spouting off that he was the greatest thing since sliced bread, that the universe, in fact, actually revolves around the gravitational center of his penis, and that all women secretly pleasure themselves to his image at every available instance of privacy? (Actually, I think I just described domiguy, and I'm rather fond of him, but it is just a playful persona, or.. is it?.. so.. hum.. "Kif, we have a conudrum!") But, please. It's only human to make fun of intensely stupid things.
