ORIGINAL: velvetears CL, what is the difference between saying a belief is intensely and the person believing it is intensely stupid? Saying the belief is just gets you off the hook of attacking the believer. Ah, so anyone who's ever done anything stupiud is, therefore, stupid, and not just one who acted stupid at the time? quote:
ORIGINAL: velvetears i see nothing good natured in any of this. i know i won't change any minds or make a difference you will all laugh it away or make some sarcastic comeback, i don't care. Just my rant for the day. I assure you, from my seat, it's rather funny, and I'm hardly a sadist. Still, I'd like to remind you I'm making fun of the ridiculous notion of God, and the sterotypical believer, not any particular individual. And, yeah, I know. Religion is pretty much to comfort people, until some asshole mentions how it's all a load. I'm pretty much acting like that guy who tells kids that Santa isn't real; I'm an ass, but a correct ass. Still, I'm sorry, I find difficulty feeling guilty for speaking in a manner favorable to what is, to the best of our knowledge, the truth, particularly when those I'm speaking to aren't kids; hell, who here isn't older than me? For one thing having faith isn't a one time act - it is lifelong. Therefore your reasoning doesn't hold. You can say something someone did was stupid, but there is a beginning and an end to the act the person doing, if there isn't it goes from the realm of act to the human doing it being stupid. It's a load to you. Respect it isn't to others, that is all i am saying. You are no better then the religous zealots who try to cram religion down a persons throat. Just the opposite agenda. i don't appreciate either approach.
