The Christian-Right says they may break from the GOP and back a 3rd party candidate.

Why?

4 reasons:
1) Mitt Romney - a morman.
2) Rudy Guiliani - who supports abortion and also had that little crossdressing incident.
3) A reluctance from most of the candidates to fully support a constitutional ban to gay marriage.
4) Critical losses to cases in the Supreme Court over the years.

So now the christian right-wing wants to form their own party.

I dont think Ron Paul supports the religious right. The only one that does is Huckabee.

I dont think most conservatives support the religious right. The religious right supports more government to promote their social policy. The religious right are people like Ashcroft who thinks you should be locked up if you look at porn on the internet.

I posted a few months ago that I foresaw this happening and was shouted down.

Cackle.

I am still wondering if the Religious Right numbers enough people to be a bigger party than the Greens,
Libertarians, or whoever.

Well some say about a 1/3rd of the GOP is the religious right but there is no actual reliable statistics that show this... and remember it is just the leaders of the Christian Right that are talking about this. There is no way to guage how many voters would actually leave the GOP. Many thought the Reform party was going to pull all the traditional conservatives away from the GOP but that never happened.

But I think this is more of a stunt. I think they are just trying to derail Rudy's campaign. Rudy's abortion stance is just too much for them to swallow.

I'm not even that sure about the Far Right and Huckabee. He's certainly a Christian, but he's pretty reasonable, too. Now.... Brownback, the Far Right would love him to make it all the way, but I don't see that happening

If I had to guess, I would say they do. And they are generally far more focused than the other two.

This is another reason for the split.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/09/18/politics/main3271766.shtml

They were livid. This group is a who`s who of the christian right.
They are also the armageddonists, who are pushing for war in the middle east,so that they can have a ringside seat to the Apocalypse. These are are the crazies.

I heard a quote that went,"we`re going to put the republican party out of it`s misery."LOL  That`s funny....

As an aside, most of the top tear candidates also avoided the Spanish TV debate,as well as the PBS debate, put together to speak to black issues.

A pretty lame bunch.

It'd be nice if we had secret ballots.  Truly secret ballots.  As in, no party endorsement, etc.  Then we'd probably have a couple of set of votings, narrowing down canidates geometrically from all those receiving a vote in the first go as the pool for the second before the geometric process took over.

Forcing people into these wretched party lines is just.. ick.

Ron Paul lets his religion decide anything that is not in the Constitution (like women having choices)

I always thought that being a Chirstian was to be like Christ.
Jesus tolerated just about everyone and never forced people to follow his beliefs.

The best way to have anyone follow your way is to just live your life and show how it makes you happy.

It's sad that we have too many "Christians" who feel that every law should pretain to only there religion and ban everything else regardless the lack of harm it inflicts on them. Why can't they just live there life without having to force everyone else to live the exact same way?

Since when do we see homosexuals declaring that everyone is a closet case and needs to bend over to discover there true self?

Not many tell christians to live a different life. It's about time that all christians beging to return the favor and learn some tolerance.

!?!
According to the article this meeting included some of the head honchos of the Council for National Policy which virtually owns the GOP. WTF is going on? Do these guys think they've so completely lost control that the anti RR wing of the GOP might regain power?

Although honestly what will mean something is if one of their annointed candidates, Huckabee or Thompson, doesn't win South Carolina.
