I am the child of two former Catholics, that being, I was raised atheist. The extent of my background in religion is any independant research that I have done out of idle curiousity. I have no reservations when it comes to matter of religious icons or references. I have answered by the name of a goddess since young adulthood. A friend of mine gave me the name when I was a young teenager, it stayed, and I have come to personally identify with that name more than my birth or legal names (yep, they're different, and that's a big hassle). This makes some people uncomfortable, for which I am respectful of their feelings but have no resolution for their discomfort. I don't compare anything to religion. That said, I am rather tongue-in-cheek about things that may seem to be references to religious topics. I have no qualms being referred to as a deity, and I like being "worshipped". A friend made a playful moto for me, _my name here_: 50% Goddess + 50% Machine = 100% World Domination. [:D] I have a keychain that says "We'll get along just find as soon as you realize that I'm god." I mean no disrespect to anyone's choice of faith in any of these things. In the same right, as religion is not particularly important to me, I do not feel apprehensive at all about being rather playful in tossing the word "god" around. To some, words have great power. For me, a word only has as much power as you lend it to have. Is my behaviour hubris? To some, maybe. I'm fine with that.
