quote:
ORIGINAL: philosophy Actually the film isn't being removed from classrooms, however a guidance pack has to be added to it. The phrase you used 'partisan political rhetoric' was not, as far as i know, part of the language used by the court.......the phrase 'broadly accurate' was. These two phrases mean two different and mutually exclusive things. As to the USS Cole and Iraq, how is Gore telling untruths responsible for these things? (genuine question, i am merely unaware of what you allude to) From the linked article "In what is a rare judicial ruling on what children can see in the class-room, Mr Justice Barton was at pains to point out that the “apocalyptic vision” presented in the film was politically partisan and not an impartial analysis of the science of climate change. “It is plainly, as witnessed by the fact that it received an Oscar this year for best documentary film, a powerful, dramatically presented and highly professionally produced film,” he said in his ruling. “It is built around the charismatic presence of the ex-Vice-President, Al Gore, whose crusade it now is to persuade the world of the dangers of climate change caused by global warming. “It is now common ground that it is not simply a science film – although it is clear that it is based substantially on scientific research and opinion – but that it is a political film.” " Now if those highlighted quotes, in their proper context mean that Gore's film was ruled OK for classroom use because it is 'broadly accurate', then I'm afraid there is nothing I can do to help you. But 'partisan' is the last accusation you should be making. (BTW, just speculation, what exactly was the Cole doing in Yemen? Didn't we have a 600 ship Navy specifically to carry out all replenishments at sea, so that no warship would be left vulnerable by having to tie up pierside in a dangerous part of the world? Oh no, that's right, someone took credit in their autobiography for getting rid of 200 ships, inlcuding replenishment craft, as one of their greatest accomplishments while in office. Now shall we look at a list of major stockholders in Big Oil and see whose dividends have gone through the roof since the invasion of Iraq?)
