I've recently started eating a little healthier and actually exercising more. What my family has started doing is walking one mile a day to start. I have two young ones and have already cut their sweet snacks down to one after lunch and one after supper. My question is geared towards those who know a bit more about a healthy level of physical activity on a daily basis. I also asked here because I know there are Dominants who have their submissives on strict healthy diets and exercise scheduels.


We've been trying to get in an hour per day of added physical exercise including a mile walk and an exercise video called Tae Bo Basic. We've tried the more advanced workout videos and believe me, we are beginners and can't complete them. I struggle with this one! I am a 32 year old woman who's target weight is 180 pounds. I came to that number by doing quite a few of the healthy weight charts online. To be perfectly honest, I have quite a bit of weight to lose. My question is, how long would the more experienced recommend we exercise per day? What types of exercises are more beneficial?


Please feel free to discuss even if you are just starting like I am.

For me, exercising 4 times a week is healthy; that is what I would call a balanced lifestyle.

If I were you, I'd try some light jogging, just do what you can to start with and build it up: the aim being 4 times a week when you're comfortable with it. There's not much point, however, if you're snacking between meals. My advice would be to cut the snacks right out; if you must eat between meals, eat fruit instead.

There's no magic secret to this: a healthy diet and regular exercise will see you in tip-top shape.

i am not an expert but i have lost 41 lbs so far. Cut out soda entirely including diet. Drink water water water! From what i have heard exercise every day because you eat everyday. Walk one hour a day. Start slowly and build up after say 3 weeks incorporate something else. Do something for fun. Do something that the kids would enjoy if you have kids. Go bicycling, take a nature walk...anything to get away from computers, video games etc. Most importantly mix it up and have fun...

have real food as junk food or processed food will drag you.  chug water- and step away from the boob tube.

get check ups - watch the stress.  and be carerfull of neighbors that covet  your widget!

Everyone here is right about all they have said I would sugest eating more protien and greens, give up pop and fast food huge fat builders go to a GNC and talk to the people behind the desk they sometimes know what they are saying and can offer good advice and its free advice, start reading lables, my girls and I run together but its geared for my lilest she says run like a horse and we do or walk like a turtle and we do im not pushing them and its fun. The more muscle you have the easyier it is to burn fat and at first you will loose water weight and it will seem huge but then it gets harder and seems not to go anywhere but just keep it up and think of it as a life style change for the better not a diet because diets suck! When your active as a youth your active threw out your life so its also good parenting by doing it with you lil ones this is a good site  http://www.muscletech.com/

Exercise, if I were to choose one thing, would be to do weight-bearing exercise of some sort, whether free weights, or with machines. Do them 2 or 3 times a week, and put some ummmph into it. You're a woman, you won't turn into a muscle-bound person no matter how hard you lift, but you will see tremendous health benefit.
 
Diet: Avoid sugar, starches, and processed food/drink like the plague. Eat fresh meats, veggies, nuts, berries, eggs, olive oil, coconut oil, butter.

Thanks for the replies so far. I generally eat twice a day. Mostly, it's lunch and supper unless the young ones aren't in school. Then, I have to cook three meals a day. I personally don't eat the snacks. I do allow the little ones to though. They're still small and I'd hate to completely take sweets away. I did for a while and bought all kinds of fruits. They only sat and ruined. So, I went to allowing them two snacks a day. I tend to buy the low fat snacks for them though with hopes that it isn't as bad. As for sodas, we strictly drink diet.

Well kudos for getting into a healthier lifestyle.  It will be beneficial for you and your family.  As for snacks, I would just try to keep them out of the house.   For the kids cut up fruits and veggies and let them dip them into something.   As  for exercise try to do something new each day so it doesn't get boring .. good luck ! as for diet soda.. not sure young kids should be drinking it.  It really isn't even good for adults.  Get into drinking water

My current favorite form of exercise is cycling.  Not heavy duty, but local bike trails.  I find this to be not only good physical exertion, but good for mindless adventure.  I can allow my thoughts to drift and I try to allow this to happen.  I find it goes way beyond physical benefits for me.

You will have to look it up, but Jerry Seinfields wife just put out an amazing cookbook. Using veggie and fruit purees as a major yet secret ingredient. It includes a lot of 'snack food' which in reality is really quite healthful.When I eliminated all processed foods and all soda including diet I lost 100 lbs. I didn't then know about her cookbook but on my own I used purees in nearly all my food.H2O is your friend  . If you can, find some kind of group sport for the whole family to be involved in, great family time with the benefit of exercise! Best of luck, I know it isn't easy. It is an actual new way of living.

I don't think you're being rude at all. Advice is what I want! Since the low fat/low calorie snacks aren't as healthy as I previously thought, what would you all recommend I have the little ones eat? They come home half starved from school. I've tried apples, oranges, all kinds of fruits. And they end up ruining because they aren't eaten.

Edit to add: You folks are fast! You got your replies posted quicker than I could get mine done, heh.

its always better  to eat in the morning at least a little because it gets your metabilism going otherwise it all goes to fat storage, its also better to have many small meals during the day rather than a few med. ones, I would do your home work and remember no one book or person has the correct answer for you each person is different and has a different body type ect. do what works for you and change it up because your body gets used to a certain way and makes adjustments on you, sort of like shocking your system---Rush

cut up all kinds of veggies and let them dip them in light ranch dressing.. I love celery and peanut butter it's also good with apples.  Veggies are also good with salsa

Regardless of how healthy I eat and how much exercise I do, I find it best to have atleast one or two days out of the month to be a lazy glutten.

Today, I'm having my first Dr Pepper, Nutter Butter, and Corn Dog in over 3 months. Monday, it's back to counting the carbs, sugar, and mostly drinking water and green tea.

I found that taking a break keeps me from having a grumpy attitude all the time.

no offence but peanut butter is bad for you all salt and they took out the peanut oil and added the bad kind , salsa is great for you but I cant remember why. we try and enjoy food for what it is with out adding anything because you will always have to have  it or they wont eat it and why start a bad habit when you dont have to

divi's idea of celery and other veggies, mixed with ranch dressing (I'd use one like Ken's 1 Carb, which is full fat, or the South Beach one, which tastes "off" to me, or homemade mayo or Hellmans mayo), and nut butters.
 
Nuts themselves make a good snack, but watch your portion sizes.
 
And Rush makes a good point; eventually, the kids will start eating the healthy food, especially if that's all there is. Trust me, they won't go hungry

to reference the jogging suggestion:  jogging, even lightly, isn't necessarily a great call for someone who's not in or nearly in shape already...it strains and stresses lots of body parts and for someone not used to it it can do more damage than good.  Walking, a fast paced walking that increases your heart rate (look up your target heart rate for exercise online) is a great cardio workout without the jarring impact of jogging.  Also...try dancing...with UMs....just silly dancing can be fun and burn the calories if you do it for 30 minutes or so....

Water....wonderful suggestion.  when I can bite the bullet and quit drinking soda and only drink water I lose without trying.

as for the junk in "healthy snack foods" yes, I agree...however a pack of 100 calorie oreos is better than eating a handful of the real deals and darn it, sometimes I just want chocolate cookies....and the 100 calorie packs are closer and better than nothing to a real oreo (for me)

as for kids....if they can't get it they don't eat it.  It is up to us as parents to ensure they eat properly if that's what we want of them.  If you want to treat em because they are kids then occassionally take them for frozen yogurt instead of buying and keeping junk food in the house.  while I don't practice as well as I should, what I preach here...we have done that with fast food.  It barely exists in my home and it is to the point now, when I ask my oldest where she wants to go for dinner it is rarely McDonalds now.... woo hoo progress!
