i had spent over 4 years on several "Christian" DD/BDSM sites, went off all of them this past June. One site was VERY strict on whom they let in... the pic on my YIM profile was considered pornographic..it was a naked girl in a submissive posture before a clothed Dom....

i am a "Believer" and i dont like to use the word Christian...why? Because unless someone is an atheist or agnostic, Buddist, Pagan or Wiccan...or whatever...people seem to consider themselves "Christain."
A Christian is someone who is "Christ like."

While i aspire to be Christ like, i am human...i sin, i choose my own will...and this IS TOTALLY acceptable to the God of the Bible.

Having grown up in a very strict evangelical fundamentalist environment (my father a missionary and minister/evangelist), i have grown to fully realize that being a Believer is NOT about rules, but about grace and mercy. Yes, the Bible is our guide book for how to be Christ like, but just reading the OT sets forth that this life is fucking hard and we do have humanity built into our very lifeblood...we fail and are as prone to all kinds of moral issues and devastation as everyone else. King David for example, yet he was repeatedly called "man after God's heart." Why? Because even in his devastating humanity, he wanted nothing more than to please God.

i so want to take offense at many writers on this forum, but i have NO right...how they judge the Believer or Christian is how they view not only God, but others in general.... we like to point out the conflict in others' lives, the dicotomy, the inconveniences, the inconsistences and the duplicity but ya know.... until we understand fully the God of the Bible, we have no right to judge what we do not know. Just like i have no right to judge a Catholic, Mormon, Pagan, Wiccan, Buddist...etc.

DD is strange...and part of my life growing up. Dad would spank our behinds for determined self willed disobedience to his rules ... mom took a belt to me out of anger and thrashed me senseless when dad wasnt home and called it discipline...ya right!!

Pew warmers practice behind closed marital doors whatever they want...but never talk about it because it is "worldly" and they do not want to be judged by other Christians for their "darknes."
Church authorities take "liberties" on children, women and make justificatons for their behaviour until they are caught, either by the church or by the law of the land...for example Catholic priests, Mormon polygamy, "discreet" cheating by everyone, parents beating/neglecting/abandoning their children, ..... justifying our behaviour is free will, given to us as part of our humanity.

We find the splinter in other's eyes, while we fail to deal with the tree in our own lives.

Good luck figuring out why human beings act like human beings no matter what "religion" they practice or what they say their beliefs are.... tis the human condition and we all MUST take responsiblity for our own human condition.

Is that a fact? Where exactly did I throw any barbs at the "intolerant christians"?

You didn't - I thought your post was generally substantive.

seems the what constitutes a "Christian" debate is likely to be the same as what constitutes a "slave", as not even the Christians will all agree on a singular definition. for many, it is the acceptance of the Nicene creed, but there are many others that reject the Nicene creed, yet live, lives filled with Christian love.

it is, for many, highly personal, for some self-defined and for others, if a particular sect isn't defining you, you can't even hope for hell. all the posturing and using scriptures to support your behavior or lack of it isn't going to change the reality that we ALL "sin" and fall short of perfection. Christianity has been splintering and disagreeing with itself since it's inception.

Is this how we find out who made the cut?

Hello,

Having spent time studying feminist theory and religious history, I have a few comments on Christianity and their attitudes towards
sex.

Specifically to Christianity, most of the books in the New Testament are not overly misogynistic. However, we have the Book of Paul, written by an anti-sex, anti-woman apostle, who basically did everything he could to indicate that to truly follow The Lord Jesus Christ (hey, I didnt make up the name...) meant one had to eschew sex. Then you have this transplanted into the Dark Ages where it was melded with the negative reaction to Roman sexual freedom, along with bathing, religious tolerance, and proper sewer systems, as well as a bunch of celibate monks and Popes, and in the modern world we are left with Christian morality saying that sex is a bad thing.

Peace out,

Sinergy

This is an amazing piece of total misinformation. The New Testament gives women more respect and equality than anything else in its time. It was, in fact, radical in its equality in its time.

There is not a book in the New Testament called the Book of Paul. Paul the Apostle wrote several letters to congregations, i.e. Romans, Galtians etc. There is no where in any of his writings that suggest he was anti-sex or anti-woman. He recognized sex as a powerful force in life and knew that for most people celibacy was not possible.

The sentence about a Dark Ages melding of Christianity with some negative reaction to Roman society (what came to an end in the frist cent.) is absurd.

Christian morality does not say anywhere that sex is a bad thing per se. It does say it is a gift to be used within the context of marriage.

I think it is a big misunderstanding and its very easy to accuse paul of being anti everything - and ignore the fact that he was from a time when men were 'heads' of everything. He was extremely strict, but then, so were many men in such an era.

Thanks for clearing up the issues presented manicaldo.

Peace and Love

Was it Marx or Engels that wrote "Religion is opium for masses"? Well, that is one thing I agree with them.

I've always rather thought that religion was a way of trying to escape the inevitable, Kasia.

I've never had an issue with it beyond that-it's the hypocrasy arising from so much of it that gets my goat.
