Hello all,

I finally have a few minutes on collarme and i thought of a silly question that could be fun to hear the answers to so here goes....

I was having a discussion with Tigrita about ropes and chains and it got me curious. For all you submissives/slaves do you have a preference for what binds you? If so why? Same for the Dominant folk. Does one or the other make you feel extra excited about restraining whoever you are restraining and why?

Tigrita definitely loves rope and hearing her talk about it made me realize that i prefer chains or metal cuffs by far. I mean, if bound with rope i will be all happy that i'm bound but when restrained by cuffs or chains it is a whole new sensation. I love the metal, the complete rigidity. I love the sound, the weight of the chains against my body and the coolness against my skin. Master just bought some chains and when he asked which ones i liked i ran for the almost comical most thick ones in the store. Of course then i ran into someone i knew while looking like Marley from the Christmas Carol as i toted them around the rest of the store with a big smile on my face. I don't know but something about the metal just makes me melt.

What about the rest of you?

charlotte

Nylon rope and smooth metal surfaces.  I hate the rigid feel of classic rope, and thick chains.. there's something about them, where they can bend, but only in certain ways.. that just irritates me somehow.  Fine chains, though, are rather lovely.

I suppose I like thing things I can use to tie knots with best.  Nylon's been a personal favorite since childhood for knots, so it's typically at the top of my list.

And, it's sort of weird, but touching old rope.. I can hear it.. sort of like nails on a chalk board.. it drives me nuts.

I think chains certainly have a very aesthetic appeal, and the cool metal against skin is a nice sensation, but I think, over all, I prefer rope. Mainly because the bindings can generally be much tighter than with chain. Chain can only really bend so much, due to the links and depending on thickness, but rope tends to be much more versatile. That said, I do have a bit of a thing about metal collars. :)

It depends on what you are going for.  I love rope when it comes to tight close bondage mixed with a flexibility to the body.  I love rope when I want to do something that takes a long time to connect and just get INTO the bondage in and of itself.

I prefer chains when I want to make a point, when I want to be harsh, when I want severity- no amoung of my squirming is going to break out of a locked cage.  The click and clink of the metal is sooo delicious.

Neither. I much prefer leather to bind me *purrs* Straps of leather tied up in a nice knot, or leather cuffs bound together with metal clasps to the rings.

It's all about the leather...

Yaay, so glad you posted it!   Mmmm, I love the way you feel rope snug all the way around your skin.  The abrasiveness when you struggle.  Sometimes the flexibility, illusion of possible escape.  The cutting into the skin.  Oh, and the personal nature.  It takes quite a bit of effort to tie someone up really well.  It is very intimate, whether it is a takedown, or an intricate shibari pose you have to hold still for.  Feeling the effort and skill involved.  Anyone can slap on a pair of shackles or cuffs and laugh, but knotwork, and knowing joints and anatomy for good rope bondage is much more personal.  That is why I love rope!

Edited to add: And I like natural fiber rope!  Made by hand with skill and love.  Not the slippery synthetic stuff.  And the symbolism and history of shibari/kinbaku fascinate me, though I don't know much now, I'm intrigued to keep learing, it mesmerizes me.  Okay, I'm just a Shibari/kinbaku slut.

And if you're willing to suffer the consequences when I  get out.  And I'm going to have keys to all gear you have access to, you might want to keep that in mind.

I am a rope man myself, unless there is a chain-slut subbie out there willing to stunt bottom so I can change My mind...

It really depends on what the purpose is and in what position and for how long.  i love the feel, sound and coolness of chain, and to be honest, i tend to get impatient when rope is being used and it takes my partner a while to get it "just so", but then sometimes i think that's been the purpose too..lol.

cheers,
jimini

I prefer cuffs and chains, since I still suck at knotwork. As I get better, my allegiance might change, but for now, my rope bondage isnt nearly secure enough to make me happy.

Well we use leather, rope, and chains, with leather cuffs it is so easy to hook them in chains, but rope is so sensual  I love taking my time tying knots, watching her squirm,:)

I agree with you completely Peter--  ropes are great for some things, but when I lay a nice heavy chain across the shoulders..........  a totally different vision!

I guess I just don't understand rope. I'm really good at getting out of it, first of all, and secondly, don't you just have to sit/lie/stand etc in position while they do it? How could someone catch you, hold you in place, and tie intricate knots all at once? It's never successfully happened to me. I see how versatile rope is for more than just holding someone somewhere (like, shibari), but it doesn't seem very secure, and if I feel like I can escape, I will try to, and that puts me at less ease - which is something I don't want. Why would I want to feel like I could escape if I wanted? I want to feel inexorably trapped against my will. :P What's the point if you have to volunteer to stay in one spot for an eternity while they tie ya up? I'm not very patient either. Maybe if someone had the skillz to like lasso me and yoink me off a speeding horse, flick and have me tied to a tree somewhere.. ;) Those leather straps/cuffs from psych wards look nifty besides the cool metal stuff. ;)
