It is the "nor would I think anyone else would." part that I think is presumptuous.

Again I clearly state "I think" which signifies my thoughts and opinion because it after all  it is an an "I" statement. If my thoughts and opinions are presumptuous would yours not be as well?

Nika:
When you choose to think for someone else that is called being presumptuous.  In other words you are presuming what someone else thinks.  Since there is no way you could actually know what everyone else thinks your statement is a presumption.  The fact that it is an "I" statement is the very thing that makes it a presumption.  You are presuming to know what someone else thinks.

thomson,

This is where I will agree to disagree because nothing I say is going to change your mind, nor was that my intent my intent was simply to state MY opinion on reperation and why I held it.

I still say this is an imaginary dispute about an imaginary issue. But in that sense it also acts as a sort of political and psychological "ink blot test."

I see a bit of paranoia in their expressions, insofar as they see people trying to get over on them. Similarly, the non-existent folk trying to get over in the non-existent way are largely Black.

So I also see the paranoia tinged with racism. It is hardly KKK lynch-mob racism but it is there and it reflects the deeper racist views of rightwing mainstream journalists who routinely create non-existent issues to get folks all aflutter: "Ebonics," "the war on Christmas," "the secret Soviet communists running the antiwar movement," etc.

It was also used in the Simpsons, and in a 1800s play call High and Gay, and a lot of goofy T-shirts, and who know where else. Its not an original but a favorite of mine which I learned from my grandfather who was pretty much a perverted and contankerous modern Fortune Cookie of a million wise sayings.

Since its not a copywrited property I can say it and give myself the credit. Law is fun with you can bend it to fit your twisted whims.

Actually it is copywritten the moment it is created.  (And you are right, a thief can bend and twist the law for their amusement... and whine when they get caught).

If you were this careless about details on your secret mission in Iraq, I would say that you've been dead for about 2 years now.

Actually its copywritten the moment its taken to the paton office' Steve the Apple guy learned this the hard way. And such an out saying is not copywritten.
For example if you write a theory and I steal the papers and get the paton on it first I get the copywrite even though you came up with it. trust me I have been burned with Copywrite laws.

Also there was nothing secret about it. If any one asked what I was doing I told them I was looking for someone then I showed them the picture and asked if they had seen him. Funny thing was most of them said all americans looked alike to them.

That may be true for 'Copywrite' laws.

Your opinion, not based in any sort of factual information or expertise on the subject of copyrights, is duly noted.

My ex-mother in law once stated (although I doubt she originated the quote) that opinions are like assholes, everybody has one and they all stink sometimes.

See now your doing it qouteing your mother the same thing I was doing. As I generally quote my granfather (I doubt he came up with a lot of them himself) or use the quotes myself. Did any where I claim to have created the quote, no. Did I try to exploite or benifet from it, no I simple used it the same as you and your mother its a general purpose saying and can be used by any one at any time. Once it McDonalds ages or goes out of business any one will be able to use "I'm Love'n it." or like a local donut stop is all ready using the "Have you had your break to day?" motto that McDonalds has finally given up on.
T"he only thing that doesn't change with time are people" I just made that one up pulled it out my ass, has some one already used this or come up with it? Like the Simpsons I'm sure some one has already done it. basicly you people are nitpicking cause you have nothing better to do.

Go back and reread what you wrote.  You gave a quote and listed yourself ("me") as the person who made the statement.

I quoted my ex mother in law and pointed out she may not have been the originator.

These are not actually the same thing, despite what you might believe.

How is showing up unarmed to a battle of wits working out for you?

You know? The same people who fucked over the Irish, and the Scots, the same people who profited from the slave trade, the same people who went rampaging across the world, slaughtering and exploiting and enslaving natives everywhere - are exactly the same people who fucked over the English.

One can find their descendants in the square mile of the City Of London, and their relatives in Wall Street - still fucking the rest of us over, regardless of ethnicity, religion or whatever else.

One of the few comments that I agree with on the thread.

The whole issue of reparations should be seen in the light of consciousness-raising in a world that offers no apologies for the evils of the past. That is part of justifying the inequities of the present. It's not about personal enrichment for the descendants of slaves but rather bringing about a just economic situation for the developing world, especially Africa.

The denuding of the continent's population during slavery was followed by worse exploitation by Europe during the ensuing century and what with the opening up of the old colonial power's former dominions to American trade post-War, the Cold War political power struggles occasioning the installation of dictators to serve the West's rapine of the continent's natural resources and a global economic system designed to keep African countries poor (and therefore their goods cheap) a moral imperative has been reached and sadly, passed.

It's not about poor and mid-ranking whites being taxed so their black neighbours can buy a Lexus. Its about countries with growing obesity problems waking up to the fact that much of the world is starving - and that the two issues are linked.

The legal side is simply to garner publicity, so stop panicking - the moral issue is what is important.

You have been mis-educated. Don't buy into it.
