Actually I think the difference is that 4 years ago we had a pretty devastating fire occur here and the lack of preparedness was a big lesson that was learned from.

As for Temp housing it will definitely be interesting to see what occurs. The hotel industry won't be able to handle the overflow. This is after all a hugely popular tourist destination and the crux of the tourist season will be coming during the holiday season. It is definitely going to become a boom for the building and construction industry in the area.

Thanks dave. The not knowing was the hardest part. You just want to know what you're facing so that you can start moving forward to handling the situation. It didn't really matter what I ended up coming home to and I was fully prepared to come home to nothing. It's just a state of limbo that comes from not knowing that is nervewracking and beyond frustrating.

Gee, I wonder what happenned to all those FEMA trailers that were sitting in fields in Louisiana and Missisipi for all that time?
They'd come in handy now, wouldn't they?

General reply -

Thank you to everyone for checking in and the words of encouragement. So glad that your home is still there Ms. Jo!

I have friends down there that are hanging tight in the midst of the chaos.
And we have had smoke in the atmosphere up here on the coast.

Stay safe and keep your faith,

Mia,

It is a huge relief. There's a great deal of cleanup to do but I'm more than happy to be able to do it.

Ven,

Tell them to hang in there. I'll keep them in my thoughts that they are as fortunate as I have been.

winterlight.

It looks like your Master's area should be clear for re-entry by the weekend. Finger's crossed. Have you heard anything from him? Phones are more than wonky and even cells are difficult to get through on. Hang in there. Think positive!

Popeye,

LOL yes they would perhaps come in handy. There are always big RVs and modular homes at building sites where the family will live while the home itself is being built. One of those quirky things that several of my friends have done to save on expenses while building their "dream homes". I suppose it makes sense.

News today: Young boy playing with matches confesses to the fire we thought was caused by downed power lines.

My best to all who have been affected by the fires!

Miss Irish
ps: re the smoke inhalation and it's properties. That smoke is very dangerous. It contains poisen ivy, poisen oak, and many toxic chemicals. I am going to see a Doc because I have been coughing for a week now. I worry about all the firefighters who are right in the heart of it, because they end up sucking all that toxicity up.
