Is it a complete contridiction in terms, or is this somewhat common?

I haver had girls who were switches, and loved to top. But were deeply submissive to me. I'm not a masochist, and they didn't view me as a bottom. But they had no problem giving me a hand-when a friend would stop by. Kind of fun, having a beta sadist working with you.

Rrafe do you have subs "stopping by" often?   Are you sure you don't live in a commune?

Status: offline 		While I am submissive, but not a masochist, I am a very much a sadist.  It's difficult to describe or explain, but I have topped before and enjoyed providing "intense discomfort to the willing participant".  I have no desire to be dominant, but I really enjoy torturing the holy hell outta someone.  I look at it as "venting out some frustration".  It's a cleansing process!

Status: offline 		I'm not "owned,"but I am a submissive. I tend to prefer play with sadists, but I also feel the sadist moniker fits me as well. I enjoy seeing people in pain and inflicting pain. It's just a matter of not having the right attitude to be a successful top myself that prevents me from acting upon those desires often. If given a sub that wouldn't fight back much and an implement (or ten), I think I could be fairly cruel. But it doesn't mean I'm not submissive still.

you could be a sub and be an S&M top... though its probably less common (just because logically, a sub/bottom dom/top fits the "personality type" more)

I wouldn't be surprised if many subs like to be the sub that's acting out or behaving badly (But still within the terms of the scene, of course). I wouldn't be surprised if a few didn't mind making the top/dom WORK for taking the sub, either.

And just as there are switches, there can be people who like being at both ends of the lash. Not to mention people who are sadists, but don't feel the need or have the drive to be dominants.

Of course it is possible...and I could be the Poster Girl! 
 
I am very submissive and love hard, edgy play.  As a Top, I am still the pleaser; yet very sadistic and demanding.  Sure, I'd want him to have a good time...but I know what it feels like to be pushed; and so I do.

Funny you should ask this as Master and I were just joking about this earlier today.  He has a psychotic cunt for a boss who keeps screwing with His (and everyone else's) schedule.  She is a militant lesbian (which is fine) but we were laughing today about her being grudge-fucked.  I mentioned that a sandpaper covered dildo (with a little Icy Hot for good measure) might be the best tool to employ.  He seemed shocked and was laughing at what a sadist I sounded like.  Very out of character for me, really, but I have to admit I took pleasure in thinking of her in some serious pain.  Sorry....just had to share that light-hearted answer to your question............luci
