Leonard Nimoy is in the next movie. The answer is obvious, Spock is a Vulcan and would outlive Kirk..

It seems strange that he wouldn't be in it, even in a cameo. I saw him interviewed and he seemed sad & confused over the whole situation. I am by no means a Trekkie but IMO he should be a part of the new movie dangit!

His name does leave something to be desired tho' ! I actually think he is quite a reasonable actor. I saw him in a Columbo episode where he played a bit of a fop or over the top arty type. Played it quite well IMO.

yeah but at least he used to be attractive...man he's been in so many horrible movies and tv shows I couldn't blame them for not wanting anything to do with him.

The answer is obvious, Spock is a Vulcan and would outlive Kirk.. they seem to be shoehorning in a few of the old cast. i suspect that shatner hasn't been involved because he is too expensive, afterall he has had a career post star trek - nimoy not so much. problem with spock outliving kirk in terms of this movie is that the story is set at the start of the kirk/spock relationship. so if nimoy is playing spock it will be him "remembering" the start of the enterprise. frankly i would rather that when movies like this were being made they didn't bother with the homages to the original stars. mind you with this franchise i wish they had just made a new movie, introduced new characters and launced a new series that way.

If I'm correct, the movie takes place at Starfleet Academy. They could have made Shatner a teacher or Headmaster or something.

Yeah, he was pretty much typecast as, "The Star Trek Guy." In anything else he did I always thought of him as Capt Kirk playing so and so part. I can't see him and (not) think of "Capt Kirk." And, I never thought he was that good of an actor. He's pretty much indistinguishable in any part he plays. He'd be a "B" Movie actor.
