My experience as a female ARmy vet? They don't push the women as hard as they should. Even in basic training, the attitude was "you'll never need this so it doesn't matter".  But it isn't a matter who can run the mile faster or who can do the most pushups... they didn't push the women hard enough emotionally or mentally either. People live up to the expectations you have for them. Since they didn't expect much of the women, that is what they got.

You should look up the movie G.I. Jane... very good movie and covers most if not all of the points you've made here

 Hollywood at it's worst.

I am very sorry that you feel that way. The movie was inspirational to me...

Just a difference of opinion; if it inspired you, then that's what is important.

I'll just go with my second choice, A FIREFIGHTER!

Don't they spend most of their time putting out skip fires?

According to the West Midlands fireservice, yes thats what they tend to do most lol.

Only 20% of a firefighters time spent putting out fires, the rest off the time is spent speaking to school kids, road traffic accidents and other non fire related jobs.

If only 20% is about fire shouldn't they be renamed?

Maybe they think women are smarter and would not follow orders as blindly, for example, "Run up that beach while being shot at!"

Most likley it is because of the effect it would have on the Men, and while that is not the womans fault, the goal is to have an effective millitary.  Lives are at stake, and that takes precedent over feelings of fairness.  Men competeing among each other.  Men + women+ stress cuases fights and jealuosy, that's just the way it is.  Also a lot of people get very powerfull urges from D/s situations, which in some ways the millitary is.  People exploit/ sucumb to it (thats an entire different debate and I don't care the cause, just the result) to it and it causes problems.

Also, just because of the way our millitary operates now, it may not allways be so.  In a trench for months, Stuck in the jungle with no resupply, ect. women are at a disadvantage. They are prone to every problem men have plus more, yeast infections ect.  And they on average can carry less gear.  I do not think having women in front line combat is a good idea, despite the fact that many are certainly capable.

Now an All woman Special Force Team.  An Amazon Squad.  Thats a good idea.  Eliminate the fraternization issues, and most of my reasons against go away.  Plus it would have a great impact psycholigcally, having Radical fundementalists being defeated by Women.  That could be a very good idea.  I could imagine an elite group of homosexualls as a strike force causing panic among Muslim extremists, would be very effective.

Goddess20, you could always join the U.S. Marines.
You'll get U.S. Citizenship after your first hitch too!
They like to play with guns as much as you do.
When I was in the U.S. Coast Guard we had women aboard boats and ships.
I had a female C.O. (Commanding Officer) when I was aboard a 95 foot patrol boat too.
And four other females too.
And she was an excellent Skipper!
And, the same deal goes for the Coast Guard regarding U.S. Citizenship.
I was assigned to the .50 Cal machine gun for boardings.
Plus in the Coast Guard you're a federal law enforcement officer so you can play with guns all you want.
Think it over, they're hiring!

I wouldn't want to be treated any differently. I want to join seeing and hearing the testiments of men, so Ive seen what they do to them and thats what I want!

I wanna be pushed, I wanna to call me fat and lazy and push me to my limit and see how I react!

As long as they didn't grab my croutch or my tits Id be fine, Id be happy!

I want that whole screaming in my face, telling me how crap I am, being throw over wall, climbing up ropes, thighs burning after running miles upon miles upon miles, bruised, battered and aching!

I wanna be one of the Elite!

I want that state of mind!

I can help with the bruised, battered, and aching part.....

Seriously, I personally am bothered by the idea of women in combat, but just because I'm bothered by it doesn't mean it should not be allowed.

Unfortunately, the Gloria Allred's of the world don't care about standards, as much as they do quotas.

we discussed this at length when iw as in the army.....and the general answer(which makes sense to me) was.....

a man can run past another man that is injured and keep fighting.....no amount of training can make a man run past an injured woman......its in them to protect and help females.  so females on the front lines would cause more deaths, even if they were physically capable of keeping up.

the men i have known in my life would stop to help a female....and id hate for my want to be a front line soldier to get one more person hurt or killed.

im ok with this as a form of discrimination.

This is a few examples of military life for women in America.  I doubt if you would find your country's much different.  No, we can't serve "like a man".. mainly because men behave as boys.  While women are required to fight the enemy, we also have to fight off our own male counterparts  Just one of those dirty little secrets.  See the second story:

(Unelected I might add) etc etc.

BUT........................

I am sooooooooooooo proud to be british so I wouldn't fight for any other country but my own.

Did you read the link?  It's not a problem of performing in combat.

i dont know what years you were in, but when i was in back in the early 80's, we did the same as the men did-and they called us the same names and cussed us just as much as the men.....

now i hear they get to wear sneakers for pt and cant get yelled at.....lotta good thats gonna do when some enemy is questioning them and they cant take the pressure......

i read the link-and i got from it shes a better person now, with more understanding of life, than when she went in.......i dont see anything she said as negative.....sure we bleed and men dont.......she knew that when she joined up.....

the first woman says nothing of having been harassed or mistreated by men....

the second, well i would have ripped his dick off when he placed my hand on it-and im bettin he wouldnt have told a soul...

the third one had the same experiences as a man would have.....not all good ones, and she may or may not heal from them.

i dont get how anything on that link proves women have it harder than men in the military.

Yeah.  All three stories.

What did I see from the links?  The women were mostly talking about how hard it was being so far away from home, having to live in harder conditions, periods, poor bathroom facitilies, little make-up, no time to pretty themselves up, friends and associates dying, stress.

What problem did women face due to men?  Oh, one man hit on this girl.  And she could've just said "No", but, for some reason that wasn't given, she didn't, and just reported the guy instead, which ended the problem.  Ah, and, in the third story, a woman said she'd sleep with her back against the wall to be better prepared incase someone tried to rape her.  Which, oddly enough, they didn't.

The article you cited was: "Life as an American Female Soldier
Hair falling out, periods on hold, and peeing in a cup: for female soldiers, life on the front lines involves stuff men never have to think about."  Written by a woman, about women, using three women as primary sources.  This is obviously an article with feminism in mind, yet it didn't make much of a point of men causing women problems there.  Instead, it dwells on the difficulties caused by differences in the female body.

I'm inclined to believe that female soldiers face more challenges- a very common reason for the argument that it would be too difficult to incorporate them into the armed services.  Yet I haven't seen how "men acting like boys" is, by any means, the hard end of the stick for these female soldiers.

So, please explain to me.. how are men making it so much harder for women?
