I really do understand.

war isnt pleasent, killing people isnt jolly and seeing people being killed isnt fun but there you gotta take the good when you can, whether it be from the people you meet, the country you get to see, whatever it is.

I didnt mean, woohoo I just shot someone.

I want to be pushed beyond what I thought I could do, run further, faster, carry more than I thought I could, be in a situation I thought I could deal with and just deal with it! Help someone, some people!

I wanna do something worth while, not working nights on security getting paid to sleep.

Goddess20, you could always join the U.S. Marines.
You'll get U.S. Citizenship after your first hitch too!
They like to play with guns as much as you do.
When I was in the U.S. Coast Guard we had women aboard boats and ships.
I had a female C.O. (Commanding Officer) when I was aboard a 95 foot patrol boat too.
And four other females too.
And she was an excellent Skipper!
And, the same deal goes for the Coast Guard regarding U.S. Citizenship.
I was assigned to the .50 Cal machine gun for boardings.
Plus in the Coast Guard you're a federal law enforcement officer so you can play with guns all you want.
Think it over, they're hiring!

Ok, Ill explain,

Living in Britain is shit!

Taxes are high, theres no good jobs, no good housing, can't buy a house too expensive, NHS is going under, everythings to expensive, can't smoke anymore, can't drink, its turning into a nanny state, imigants everywhere, GORDON BROWN IS RUNNING THE COUNTRY FOR GODS SAKE!!! (Unelected I might add) etc etc.

BUT........................

I am sooooooooooooo proud to be british so I wouldn't fight for any other country but my own.

Goddess, then you'd *love* living in the U.S.!
The bum who you shoot doesn't care which "country" you fight for anyway!
All those English visitors at the Guy Fawlkes party here last night will probably have to be escorted back to the airport!
To a person they said they loved it here!

FangsNfeet said:I don't have a problem with a woman picking up a gun and killing the enemy. However, none to most of us never want to see a woman become a POW where she is raped and tortured.

(btw I didn't read the whole thread and probably won't. long threads drive me batty.)

And a man would fare better at being raped and tortured?! Uh uh,'fraid not folks. (remember rape doesn't need to include a penis.) rape is often used as a breaking technique.

At a quick glance, I don't think Fangs meant men would "do better" being raped, as much as men don't want women placed in the posistion to be raped or tortured. I may be wrong, I didn't read it all, either.

Not strictly true.

She was given the chance, but made an arse of it. Never again.

As a human being we should be allowed to TRY to be anything we would like to be whether it be a in the Royal Army or a ballerina.   The option should be ours to decide yes or no.

There are a lot of women who are both mentally and physically stronger than their counterparts.

When I was in high school I was the only girl on my high school foot ball team and I worked my ass off .  We were 2nd place that year; I started in 6 of the 9 games played.   Loved it.

Did you read the link?  It's not a problem of performing in combat.]

Yeah.  All three stories.

So, please explain to me.. how are men making it so much harder for women?

When you were a very young lad, there was  a situation brought to light.  More reading but I'm sure you can handle it:

In short.. women not only have to do the combat (which is fine, that's what they signed up for) but put up with the added stress of being sexually harassed just because they have the misfortune to have a pussy.

The first story just shows differences in stresses.. yes it's geared to women because it is something they may not have considered and just adds to their trauma.  The second article just pissed me off.. if you can't trust a commanding officer, who can you trust?  Another stress point and totally unnecessary.

These are female issues presented for some insight and maybe a bit more understanding, not as excuses.

Why is every time a woman stands up for herself , it's considered (ooooooo) "feminist"?  geeeeeeeeeeesch..must be the new bogyman :) LOL

That's the 76mm gun system that the Navy and Coast Guard use made by BOFORS of Sweeden.
Those things can kick out some hot lead.

Coming from a military family I can tell you one truth.  No matter how well trained you are, if you are injured, the men in your unit will always stop to help you.  This is simply male/female dynamics.  You could be the CO and order them to leave you and get the job done, but the reality is they will disobey that order and try to protect you. If you want to do something to serve your country, there are law and municipal agencies that can always use the help.  Firefighters and police officers are just two.  Good luck.

Yeah, I agree that, if this world were perfectly fair, women should be able to be soldiers, even if they're disadvantaged in the position.  And I also agree that many women are likely both mentally and physically stronger than many men.

But it's soldiering.  It's not a job, or a play, or anything else.  It's war, where one's performance determines who lives and dies.  Truth be told, men tend to be stronger and less emotional as a whole.  The emotions men do experience also seem to be less distracting from combat.  And while some women could probably be good soldiers, the logistics comes in.. care for female soldiers and the sexual aspect.  (It's not just the male soldiers' fault, either.  Both male and female soldiers would be guilty of this.)

So, really, when it comes down to it, an armed service needs whatever works best in battle, even if this isn't fair.  Not only with regards to sex, but just about everything else.  It's survival, you know?

PS-  If there is a good way to incorpate women into the armed services- as increasing technology deters the need for physical strength and female biological issues are more easily dealt with, such as with period prevention pills- of course it'd be a good thing.  My only argument is that we have to look at the effect, not minor moral concerns, in chosing soldiers.

Alright, my interest is in how men are making it fundamentally more difficult for women.  Your earlier comment, "No, we can't serve "like a man".. mainly because men behave as boys", struck me as implying that women have a significantly harder time than men in the services and that this added difficulty is largely due to what men do.  It strikes me as entirely unlikely that the "sexual harrasement" women receive would be that much worse than the hazing men receive, especially when compared to the hardships already imposed upon a soldier.

In short, it's the services.  It's not an easy place, regardless of gender.  I'd like some evidence that men behave unusually immaturely towards women in a manner that would drive them towards significant difficulties.

I can imagine it.  I just haven't seen any reason yet to believe it's real.

I haven't seen any instance of an individual sticking up for herself.  It's all been about female rights so far.  That's feminism, isn't it?  What's wrong with it?

i have known personally maybe about a dozen men who were marines and not one of them came out with the same enthusiasm  they had when they went in.  Many said it's just not cracked up to what they thought it would be, some came out hating the marines..... i have always found this curious and i wonder if it is the service in general or just the marines.  There seems to be a sort of romanticism attached to being a marine and i think when they don't get that John Wayne experience they become disillusioned.

Yeah, the USMC is what I gave a year of my life to.  Freaking wretched mistake.

I'm under the impression that other armed services are a bit more.. easy going.  Not that they're all cake walks, by any means.. just that they're not as hardcore as the Marines.  Marines love to point out that they're the most "bad ass", that other branches are "pussies" compared to them.  They're more ready to get their hands dirty and more likely than others to place more concern for orders from superiors than what they're actually fighting for.
