I have noticed how vehemently some, including me, state or defend their positions in the forum. I tend to sometimes go overboard and use extreme sarcasm and a few times direct insults. In one post after I received a scathing reply to a post of mine I accused someone of throwing a temper tantrum and jumping up and down like a little kid. Way overboard…but I can honestly say I hold no grudges… in fact I defended that same posters position in another thread. I hope he forgives my reply in the heat of the battle…lol

Do most of you feel this way or do you take a posters position on a subject to heart. Rather than thinking of it as a discussion on differing views do you hold a grudge or assign a derogatory personality to the poster and think of them that way in all future posts?

I hope you don’t…I sure try to not do that anyway. I have a best friend that is absolutely opposed to me on almost all subjects. We argue and insult each other much as we do on the forum but even though it gets heated we remain friends. We enjoy the debate and he has even convinced me to change viewpoints on occasion and I him.

I know how hard it is to see what you think as obvious and someone else cannot see it or ignores it. What I have found is an argument with good since usually will not change my mind when debating a point, but later it will slowly sink in.

I hope anyone whom I may have inadvertently insulted or… just pissed off realizes I am not making a judgment of their character. I am just passionate in my views.

Ja, I pretty much try to punch everybody dead in the goddamn face that disagrees with me, becaus it is all so real and terribly meaningful and it is so obvious that I am correct and they are not.

Damnit, Ron!  I was eating hot soup and I ended up gulping it down and burning my throat.  Put a warning up or something.

I'm starting to think that soup holds some sort of grudge.  Last time I broke my fucking toe when I dropped a can of soup on it.  All hail the mighty soup!

But seriously, don't take the Internet seriously.

Judging a persons character and insulting them are two different things.  i can forget insults, i don't hold grudges, but i don't forget when someone tries to denigrate my character.  And farglebargle is right - you can't take the internet too seriously.

i also have a best friend who i absolutely love but we differ DRASTICALLY and i have to literally bite my tongue raw - i almost always succeed. We have fought but we nevr get to the point of no return and i never want to with her - she means too much to me.

It is just that this is not a game to me.

Go for the LITE formulation of soup next time, easier on the toes.

I love those people. No offence, but I can't help picking on them. I love especially picking on one in perticular because his responces are always childishly vague, He claims to be and expert yet misses basic questions that any one who know anything about the subject would know, sticks blindly to whatever he thinks is right believe every one who doesn't agree with him is wrong  and he takes every thing I say personally even when I'm not talking about or to him.
Although I must admit I have to stop doing that its kinda mean, no matter how hard it makes me laugh.

I wouldn't say I hold grudges over posts, as such, but when someone repeatedly show me proof of ignorance, stupidity, unwillingness to take in any other person's views and ridgidity (is that a word?) I tend to disregard pretty much anything else this person says.

Nope never, although opinions are formed which admittedly are often are wrong when and if we have the pleasure of meeting in person. I love having my position's tested. I seek out the opportunity for that to occur. The resulting research and learning often strengthens those positions but sometimes they are changed. I do my best to learn something new every day and a conflicting position is often the source for that learning. I love a challenging position and enjoy the debate.

If a post or position effected me enough to hold a "grudge" or consider myself "insulted" it would be an indication to me that its time to turn off the computer.

Good lord.. I ignore insults.  I figure that they probably worked very hard on it and who am I to deny them their 15 seconds of rapt attention from a captive audience.

I take everyone's  comments as their opinions.  People that actually know me understand..those that don't, wouldn't care to understand anyhoo.

If only we could see the face and hear the voice inflections of the person posting.  Many times, what is said tongue-in-cheek is interpreted as something else.

(Maybe it's just me but I notice that the most close minded people are often the ones to claim to be open minded)

Hi LotusSong

I can't say how many times I have written something I intended as clever and funny… posted with a smile… only to find out it was interpreted as an insult or even fact.

You are sure right

One time I left CM because I posted and it was deleted as if what I had to say was not serious. Anyway, I realize, that I was taking it too seriously. I know who I am. I know that some people are just bent being trolls or lamers.

If I do see something that someone says that makes me want to express. Then I express. I don't care what others think about my comment, but if they ask a question, I will do my best to answer the question.

So my point...this is the internet and no one cares about you when they turn off their PC. So...do your best to not give a damn about them. Be nice, but be real.

I don't hold grudges over posts. They are just words on a screen, food for thought to me. Way too much else to seriously worry over, or get stressed and upset over than posts.

I think this best describes how I feel. Certain posts make me think, some make me laugh, even some that were not intended that way, some just purely delight me. But I refuse to give anyone on this piece of equipment, the power to upset me, in any way. The day that it does is the day I walk away from it for a very long time.

I have to admit i get a little wound up on occasion when i feel i am being judged, and incorrectly judged at that. The personal vendettas piss me off too. There are definately those who go out of their way to antagonise and attack other posters at times.
In general though i don't hold a grudge and can laugh off the insults.

I personally have not had issues with getting wound up over someone's response...generally speaking i wont get into them and not just here but in real life as well. It is really unimportant that people see things from my view so after i offer it up, it is up to them to adopt it or throw it away. It has no effect on my life so therefore i dont care.
