We went to Dreamstrike and got the magnetic collar. It is heavy and I adore wearing it - but there is no padlock dangling from it, which can be a bonus in some situations. Nobody has demonstrated a real Need To Know and so we are pretty low-key about Master this and subbie that IRL. For some bizarre reason, although I love jewellry, I just cannot wear it. I don't know why - perhaps it is the alloy metals - but if I wear something for more than a few weeks, unless it is 14k gold or better, I break out in hives. And even the 14k gold will bother me after a few months! I have tried every trick in the book, clear nail polish on the metal that touches my skin, hypo-allergenic stuff, surgical steel - none of it has any effect on me. So a collar that could be removed was essential.

Today was SMS' first day at the office wearing her collar - she called me this morning cackling to tell me how one of her vanilla friends at work was just fascinated by it, thought it was so loevly and so unique, etc.

If only she knew!!

i notice the difference in responses with men and women. The women i work with are now starting to comment on it, and the most common comment is "Oh how cute". The men are still asking for the key. LOL!! People do seem to be fascinated with it and i think it's mainly because it looks like jewelry taken to another level. To them it's just very different. i would be LMFAO if anyone decided to start wearing something similar just because they think it's so cute.

Collars that are identifiable as such are usually not appropriate in the work place any more than coming in with your hair dyed bright green. Especially if you are in customer service, you're expected to represent your company with some sort of decorum. Your sex/personal life doesn't belong on display in such a venue. Choosing a daily wear collar that is non obvious is the best option in most circumstances.

I'm attaching a photo and my husband's collar is clearly visible. It is sterling silver with a special clasp that uses a "snake eye" or spanner screw that needs a special tool to remove. These tools are not sold in normal hardware stores, as this type of screw is sold to be tamper resistant. (Used in schools, elevators, prisons and such) The collar is from http://www.bondagecollars.com/ and you can see the page with my husband's collar on it at http://www.bondagecollars.com/sdcc.htm This type of collar would probably work well for you, tinkJH. It can be made with any type of chain. If anyone asks about the unusual fastener, just tell them it is a symbol of his love for you.

My preferance would be a necklace, even one that can be removed. The wearer still knows what the meaning is and the normals won't ask questions.

Which is exactly what I have I know of many others who have something similar - and I know one woman from literotica's message boards that wears an italian charm bracelet that is all charms her Mistress gave her including interlocked hearts, her Mistress's initial, and dolphins (her Mistress's favorite animal).

my last relationship , my Master provided me with 4 different collars , for different occasions. One that could be worn daily, which was leather ..and beaded, next a leather and fresh water pearl one for D/s outings, then a white and yellow rope gold collar and bracelet for special outings and lastly my leather locking play collar and cuffs. I loved them all and weather they locked or not i craved them on my neck and felt empty without them there.

Hey! I have to agree that the place of business makes all the difference. I teach first grade,so no way could I wear my collar, even though it is white leather! But Master did give me a 'dress' collar. It's a choker necklace that I can wear anywhere. It's totally cool that I know what it really is, which makes me feel good in the first place, but no one else need know!

By the way, on this topic, did anyone else notice the beach volleyball player (in the summer olympics) wearing leather collar with an O ring? I did! :)

i've worked at a few places wearing the Collar Master gave me. A simple gold chan with a padlock keeping it together around my neck. Usually the lock falls forward and hangs like a charm on a necklace would.

Worked at public and at one point a Manager, not my own, thought that i should not be allowed to wear it, i told him point blank, i'd quit before i took it off. Worked at a resturant. Worked a few places.

My collar, with the lock in plain view has been on my neck, since the day Master put it there. It does not come off unless for a specific reason or a short period of time. (cleaning, ect ect ect) Funny enough, the lock makes it through the security/ metal detectorts at the airport. Even flying out of DC! (which i have yet to understand.)

There is a HUGE HUGE difference between what i wear as a collar and someone having bright green hair at work. Bright green hair can be considered loud and obnoxious in the workplace depending on where it is that you work. Bright green hair definitely will draw attention way more than the type of collar that i wear.

i don't care how obvious my sexual orientation is. AND, no one has a clue anyways. All the girls i work with thinks its cute. AND WHY DO THEY THINK ITS CUTE? because all you see in the teeny bopper jewelry stores now is gothic or punk inspired jewelry. You can walk into a Clairs and buy chain link necklaces, hand cuff bracelets and necklaces because they are the latest fad. i wouldn't be surprised if the chicks at work start sporting blinged out chains and locks around their necks.

i could care less what someone else thinks of me. i am extremely proud of who i am and the lifestyle i live. i don't care who knows. Just like i don't care who knows that i am gay. If someone doesn't like me for who i am then they can get to steppin. i refuse to take my collar off i were asked to do it at work. i wear my collar with pride!

While yes, this is America and yes, you have freedom to wear what you want.. others have freedom not to pay you to do such.

I've more than once had to be part of a discussion with employees, explaining to them that black nail polish and lipstick, extreme/goth jewelry and certain types of clothing were not acceptable in our workplace. Especially in a job where someone has contact with the public, you are a representative of your company. You have to project a certain image to make the customer comfortable. Every one of the 8 people I've had to discuss this with over the years screamed about their right to wear what they want. Each of them threatened to quit. They were told they were free to quit, as we upheld our standards of projecting a professional appearance. Every one of them conformed to policy.

While it's all nice to go on about how you'd quit rather than take off your collar, the reality of that is that you're then without a job. The local job market isn't that great.. (although I'm not sure of the retail jobs. Those may be plentiful.) It's great that to date, no one has complained about your collar and that your boss doesn't mind it. As I said, Choosing a daily wear collar that is non obvious is the best option in most circumstances. If your collar is non obvious, then you're not one of the people to whom my comment was directed. I wonder at your vitriolic response. My post was primarily directed to tinkJH, who is not able to wear any obvious collar. I have one that looks like regular jewelry and wished to tell her of it. Perhaps you should not assume everything is directed at you.

Hilarious thin happened to SMS today - on the elevator at her office bilding, when a few other girls get on at the 2d floor, she looks up - right into the eyes of a girl wearing the exact same collar. They both stred at each other, kind of stunned, and then both hurried out all flustered.

What are the chances?

For the last girl who wore my collar, I had a Native Amercan style choker made. She wore this lovely beaded affair everywhere. No one seemed to notice that it couldn't be removed by anyone but me. (well I suppose it could be broken LOL). I guess part of the difference is that I am completely "out" in my day to day life. Hell maybe being Canadian helps, I don't know but I have friend who is a lawyer, he wears his black leather D-ring collar even in court.

Lucky me, I don't have that job anymore - I was 19 then :) I did love the link! I sent the site to Master, I actually don't have a non-obvious collar at the moment. (Small fingers.. nuff said) Some of the work on those are beautiful, several are close to my formal collar (The wire kind but its thicker as it has my hair in it) which was made by a man at the Tex Ren fest.

I'm involved with the emergency services here (NZ) and part of the uniform policy of one of them is that any necklaces must not show above the neckline of the shirt. I just about never wear any jewellery apart from earrings and a watch so no problem for me.

On the other hand, just going off topic slightly, I did have to tell one of our younger members to remove a tongue piercing - bright green - and that didn't go down at all well. In fact I threatened to cut it out with a pair of pliers if he didn't remove it... which he did eventually, after telling me that he'd make me pay for it to get re-pierced if necessary; despite the fact that he was the one breaching policy and should have changed it to a clear piercing in the first place

Yeah this kind of thing bugs me, because it causes other places to change thier policies.

~sigh~ I mean, I don't take jobs at places that have problems with my earings (I have 6 in each ear) and I make sure to -ask- in my interviews if it will be a problem. If it's a problem, I politely tell them that wihle I'd love to work their, I'd be unable to conform to the dress code and look elswhere. No big deal, though I might grumble some.

What bothers me os when a place changes their dress code while I work there, without making allowances for individuals who had been working under another dress code. The place I work recently had some trouble with a couple new hires and what they wore. In retaliation, the dress code clamped down, big time. I don't mind having to wear slack and blouses. Eh, I could get stuff at the thrift store for 1.50. What I objected to what the change to "2 earings per ear"

~sigh~
Fortunatly, my manger was responsive to a letter pointing out the fact that I'd asked spesifically about my earigns, that I'd never gotten any complaints, that they all matched, and that my other options either looked less professional or had health risks.

Unfortunatly, the people that made them change the code were asked to quit a week later.

i've worn a metallic collar with a padlock at work plenty of times (was working at the tel switch of a hotel ) no one noticed it under a turtle neck sweater. My Mss insisted and i found normal to comply . She also had me wear a cb 2000 and sometimes a plug ,all of which made me feel horny all day

Nice choice of collar Faramir.

Tip: Put a crucifix, gothic is my flavor, on any collar you like and no one will either ask nor have any avenue of retribution against your girl/thing/it (legally or otherwise, unless they work for some sort of satanist or something) . For those who are non christian, enjoy the sacriledge. Apparently christianity and the display of its icons is not so persecuted these days as we have been lead to believe.
