I'm just glad we can live in a country where someone can wear what they want and express themselves in anyway they want!!

GOD BLESS THE USA

In theory, this is true. In practice, not so much.

At some jobs, you can be fired (or passed over for a job) if you have too much facial hair, too many visable piercings, long fingernails, or unnaturally colored hair. You can be sent home without pay if you wear the wrong colored outfit or open toed shoes.

Sure, you can wear what you want and express yourself the way you want. You can also pay the price for your actions. With freedom comes responsibility.

I don't approve of wearing a collar (particularly one involving heavy leather or large locks) to work. Work is where you work. It is where you earn money and bring it home to pay your bills. It has nothing to do with your sexuality or making a statement.

For instance, I would never wear my favorite Tshirt to work. It says "Stop bitching. Start a revolution!" I adore it, and I adore the message. But because I work with the public, my favorite tshirt would be considered possibly offensive, and, thus, completely inappropriate.

Next time you rant on and on about being yourself in the workplace and wearing your collar with pride, think about all the people who could take your job a bit more seriously, and think more about it than themselves.

my Master got me three differant collars to wear depending on where We are and what We will be doing.

plain black leather one - home collar/out with my mom or family

purple leather with O ring - munches/ play parties

silver with O ring - play parties

We both belive that any thing placed around the neck from a Dom/Domme is a collar.

as for wearing it at work, when i did stay at home mom of 5 now, i did wear my black one and no one really gave it two looks.

There is a HUGE HUGE difference between what i wear as a collar and someone having bright green hair at work. Bright green hair can be considered loud and obnoxious in the workplace depending on where it is that you work. Bright green hair definitely will draw attention way more than the type of collar that i wear.

i don't care how obvious my sexual orientation is. AND, no one has a clue anyways. All the girls i work with thinks its cute. AND WHY DO THEY THINK ITS CUTE? because all you see in the teeny bopper jewelry stores now is gothic or punk inspired jewelry. You can walk into a Clairs and buy chain link necklaces, hand cuff bracelets and necklaces because they are the latest fad. i wouldn't be surprised if the chicks at work start sporting blinged out chains and locks around their necks.

i could care less what someone else thinks of me. i am extremely proud of who i am and the lifestyle i live. i don't care who knows. Just like i don't care who knows that i am gay. If someone doesn't like me for who i am then they can get to steppin. i refuse to take my collar off i were asked to do it at work. i wear my collar with pride!

Congratulations...I recently cut my hair for the first time in 20 years for a job, because the hair didn't matter anymore, but I never would change what my appearance or My self just for a job if it mattered to Me...they don't allow men to wear earrings at work either...I've had hair to My waist, shaved, 1/3 shaved and the rest long and orange before...depends on the job...as more of an 'adult' I've worked in offices with longer hair than most of My female co-workers...My point, be who you are...as for collars; lotus wants one to wear, when I suggested a necklace to wear as a symbol she didn't like the idea...at her work it doesn't matter and she stated if it did she would find another job...but then she also has multiple visible piercings, a tat on her 3rd eye as well as other visible tats...so when her collar comes it'll be minor for her appearance...it is vegan (non-leather), with an O-ring and a Master (get it? Laughing...) on the buckle...
Wouldn't fly at My job...LOL.

I´m able to hide mine under my t-shirt at work, and yeah, it´s locked on, Mistress has both keyes. It does make me a bit selfconcious though...

Or, there are other times he wants me to wear the little chain/lock combo (which I think it cute) or one of those chain like ones where you slip the bar through the ring (?) mine has a heart shaped tag with his initials and "tink". It also has a tinkerbell charm on it.

My favorites by far, are the ribbon ones, to me they just have so much more meaning.

i like those chain type necklaces with the heart tag on it. They are cute. my chain is about the size of those necklaces. Master likes the lock just because it says Master on it...LMAO!!

Cool! My collar has a lock like that, and a black nametag stating that I´m the "property of Mistress Freyja".

this slave has worn her thick collar with an "O" ring on it to work by mistake one day and working in the construction industry with all those men can get to be pretty nerve wracking as it is, but imagine going to work and a co-worker  grabbing the "O" ring and playing with it the whole time my eyes are staring at the dirt. He played with it a bit more and said "So, what's this about?"

this slave merely told Him, "i'm a slave, have a Master and forgot the collar was there as i had slept with it on."

this slave got a lot of looks and questions but to her the collar is just as important as a wedding band and shouldn't be taken off unless one is doing dishes, having a shower or bath, after which it is put back on. "JMO"

although this slave is no longer collared she would proudly wear her collar to work again and welcome more questions. it took a long time for this slave to be open with work, friends and family about who and what i am...

i've always worn rather discreet collars to the workplace that you couldn't tell were collars.
my boss busts a nut over my cleavage as is,lol.
i have a bracelet with a tiny lock and of course my slave bells anklet which i do wear all the time still.
if i get collared again, i would only hope that Master would understand the brutal dress code

I was doing a search on collars the other day and stumbled on this site:  http://www.bondagecollars.com/collar.htm

I liked how pretty some of the collars were and also how discrete. I could wear some of those to my conservative office and no one would blink an eye.  Their would just think that it was a pretty necklace.  IMHO, the only 2 people who really need to know it's a collar are the one wearing it and the one giving it.

Those are really nice, Badkitty.  To add to the options, my collar was chosen from this site:  http://www.teno.com/necklaces2.html (mine is the Titanium two-tone)

I recently stumbled across www.eternitycollars.com  and was wondering what opinions people have on how well they could actually 'pass' in the regular world?

While yes, this is America and yes, you have freedom to wear what you want.. others have freedom not to pay you to do such.

I've more than once had to be part of a discussion with employees, explaining to them that black nail polish and lipstick, extreme/goth jewelry and certain types of clothing were not acceptable in our workplace. Especially in a job where someone has contact with the public, you are a representative of your company. You have to project a certain image to make the customer comfortable. Every one of the 8 people I've had to discuss this with over the years screamed about their right to wear what they want. Each of them threatened to quit. They were told they were free to quit, as we upheld our standards of projecting a professional appearance. Every one of them conformed to policy.

I work at Sears Portrait Studio. In addition, i wear my collar at ALL times. It's not that i want to take it off, or even could take it off, I can't and wouldn't take it off. Seeing my collar it's really quite obvious what it is, but the one time my boos asked me to remove it, i calmly explained ot her what it was and the reason i wore it (and also that i couldn't take it off) and she seemed satisfied. Since that time she's taken to askingme question and has even gotten interested in the scene. So wear your collars, be proud, be loyal, be true, be honest, and everyone will respect you for it. (And if they can't...fuck 'em! I wouldn't work for someone so uptight anyways..it's only a paycheck, they're easy to come by)

i think to some they would look like unique pieces of jewelry, and to others they may provoke questions.  But these days, people wear just about anything for fashion.  When mine was first put on me, someone at work said "Wow, that looks like a.....a collar!"  Heh.

My Master has given me a slender leather collar and i am able to wear it under turtlenecks during the winter.  Honestly, i wish i could wear it all the time, but i would probably get sent home from work.  i like the idea of the necklace collar though.  To everyone else, it's a necklace, but for you, it's a collar.  nice.

I don't know what your career aspirations are, but be careful.  The attention is feeding your ego, but the message may be spoiling your chance for advancement.

saying it's inappropriate to wear one's collar to work to me is equivalent to saying it's inappropriate to wear one's wedding ring to work. i realize that for some a collar is just cool jewelry and not a symbol of ownership or commitment, however for some of us it is very serious and a symbol of a union and commitment stronger (to those of us who wear or give it) than marriage.
it's true that we live in a very conformist, conservative society where collars and the meaning behind them won't be understood or accepted by most. however we shouldn't feel forced to hide who we are as if it were something shameful either. i've had 2 jobs since being with my Master...the first was in an office as an admin asst, the other at a retail store....wore my collar at both jobs and couldn't imagine doing otherwise. i have 2 collars, my formal collar, which is a classic 3-ring leather type with a wide band, and a silver chain with a lock that my Master holds the key to. i am wearing one of these collars at all times. with the first job, the secretary position, i didn't have the chain yet so i wore my leather collar and occasionally would try to be discreet about it by wearing sweaters and turtlenecks and scarfs a lot...however eventually you just go "oh flock it" and carry yourself as normal. sure i got odd looks, but no one ever confronted me about it. probably because i had no friends there...kept to myself, did my job well, and minded my own business.

luckily for me my colleagues know that this girl wears sometimes unusual jewellery, and i am able to wear what i like - as i have multiple facial piercings and they have not been a problem, except for some saying they don't like them;  i do not think that a collar will be a problem though some may ask questions.
