Not keen on that word "Handicapped" either. The "buzz word in the UK right now thanks to the DDA is "Impairment", but as far as I'm concerned I'm disabled. I've got severe Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.

My 7 year old neice had ADHD and she's the most wonderful bundle of fun you'll ever meet, seriously intelligent,great memory and just great, but Im kind of biased.

She's also -really- bolshy which cracks Me up. I think she's gonna be a Domme when she grows up.

And no, I don't consider myself to be handicapped, even though I have a learning disability on top of the ADHD. I don't get the parking permit and I can't get aid based on my ADHD, regardless of my circumstances. If I could, I'd be all over that permit.

At the risk of being "off topic" I -absolutely- despise the word "retarded" because it's used -not- to discribe someone who has mental retardation, but just as a word to hurl abuse at someone who says or does something that someone elses thinks is wrong or stupid.

I have a "blue badge" as they're called because I use a wheelchair, but ironically I often have to park on the last parking space of a row of "normal" parking spaces because the few disabled parking spaces that there are are being taken up by drivers who don't have a blue badge.

I see it over and over. The security do nothing, their excuse is they don't want to antagonise customers lol.

Its a funny old world.

I think I read somewhere that the origin of the word "handicap" was from the phrase "hand in cap". Just FYI.

it is the mind that comes first, for my part, I would look past the handicap if all other factors were in line.

I am married to someone who's ADHD and submissive to me. I have had to adjust and consider this facet of his health and physical/mental makeup a lot, but I don't see it as a "handicap" - it DOES mean I have to communicate in ways I've had to adapt and tailor to him, and consider things that I would not otherwise, it does mean I have to let some of the details go which other submissives may not overlook as often, it does mean that my expectations are different - but his strengths are different also, and he brings a lot to the table as he is.
