Sanity you are entitled to your opinion as am i. At the start of the 90`s he had WMD`s as the 90`s progressed that seemed less likely. As i asked before, if its not about the WMD`s then what was it about. There were no links between Saddam and Bin Laden, there were no WMD`s and both Bush and Blair had been warned about that fact. Show me a legitimate reason they had for going to war. My guess is that getting rid of Saddam was on the long term agenda of the USA, and he was a muderous tyrant who got what he deserved in my opinion. That alone though is not a legitimate reason to go to war.

I will get back to you on the oil and the dollar if i can find the quote i read from a Whitehouse official.

Is that why you think that Tony Blair went along for the liberation of Iraq, just to uphold the almighty dollar?

There are two main forces driving Tony Blair:

1) Liberalism.
2) A belief in god and the Christian religion.

Consequently, he is a liberal interventionist, in opposition to the vast majority of British liberals, who are non-interventionist.

He made a speech prior to the invasion of Iraq which went something like...."to the mountains of x, to the poverty of y, to the tyranny of z, these people are our cause, too"; moreover, he wrote a letter to Isaiah Berlin while Berlin was lying on his deathbed, he was seeking answers to his dilemma - is there a compromise position between Positive and Negative Liberty.

Add these events to his background, and it's clear that he believes himself to be a missionary converting people to Western Liberal Democracy.

Edited to add: speaking of Clinton, Blair persuaded Clinton to intervene in Bosnia - this suggests Blair is more of an interventionist than Clinton.
