I guess the trick is to find out whether one belongs with the carnivores or the herbivores first. Of course, one could conclude that one's place is with the vegetation, but I'm led to believe that Bushes rarely have anything useful to say.
Being a carnivore, one then has to decide whether one runs with the pride of lions, scavenges and harries as one of the pack of hyenas or walks alone as a leopard. Personally I think I'm more of a cheetah - much quicker than the rest, a far lighter touch, but just as capable of messing people up and still looking cute throughout. Its good being a cheetah, because I'm not interested in the big herbivores and dont bother them so they dont bother me, and the other carnivores cant catch me.
One could be a herbivore too. That doesnt mean being weak or prey all the time either. Yes, from time to time we'll catch one and rip it to pieces, but we only do enough to clear out the weak, you know? And herbivores can be very dangerous too - big horns and nasty kicks.
Point being, grow some claws or develop a nasty kick, or leaf.
