On my home planet, I'm 6 foot tall and weigh 8 stone. It's the gravity here that make me short and fat.

ps. I also have long blonde hair and an IQ of 306. On my home planet.

Big boned here but a bonus as most people think I am 20 or 25 lbs less than I actually weigh

Najakcharmer -> RE: Big boned women (12/5/2007 5:43:47 PM)

Height-weight charts are going to be notoriously inaccurate for some body types.  Just about everyone I work out with at the gym would be classified as overweight by the standard (and inaccurate) methods of measurement - and they're serious pro or semi-pro bodybuilders with insanely low body fat percentages!  Let's not even talk about the powerlifters, who would qualify as morbidly obese by the same charts, but have normal or slightly above normal body fat percentages along with a butt-ton of muscle.   These are people who are hitting the gym at least three to five days a week if not more for hardcore workouts, and eating raw oats, brown rice, protein shakes, cans of tuna and steamed chicken breasts for their regular meals.  Unhealthy they ain't.  Unless they're doing particularly dumb things with steroids, which some of them are, and which is a whole separate health issue.  [8D]

My body fat percentage when accurately and professionally measured is within the normal and healthy range, but I look stocky because I have extremely wide shoulders and a generally broad frame.  And I put some more solid muscle on top of that, on purpose.  Slang terms for "fat" notwithstanding, I am actually, legitimately "big boned".  Which is a major genetic gift as far as being a muscle builder is concerned!  I get to take full advantage of a good wide skeletal frame to hang more muscle, which I love.  The end result is that I tend to look fat when wearing loose clothes, which I don't love, but can live with as a tradeoff for the benefits of muscle, strength and fitness.

I would register as slightly overweight on a standard height-weight chart, but what they fail to figure is that muscle weighs more than fat and takes up less space.  I'm not a huge big muscle woman by any standards, and nowhere near ready to compete as I'd have to strip down to a lower body fat % than I consider healthy or comfortable.  But I've been working out a few years and packed on enough muscle to make "normal" charts not well applicable.

Can't say as I care much, as my primary goal is functional strength and fitness.  So I'm going to keep hitting the iron regularly and hard, working out and eating healthy, and I will outperform and most likely outlive the "normal" folks who fit on the standard height-weight charts and look good in clothes off the rack.

If you need a professional assessment that will be more accurate than the published height-weight charts, do invest in one - and do the healthy eating and exercise thing while you're at it.  Whether your goal is to look better naked or to be stronger, healthier and fitter, it is well worth doing.  If you actually do have a large, wide skeletal frame and bone/muscle attachments - eg, if you really are legitimately "big boned" - you're already a few steps ahead of the game if you're interested in bodybuilding and especially powerlifting!  That's the good news.  The bad news is that if you aren't consciously working on hanging muscle on that wide frame, most likely you're hanging fat on it, or else you may look gawky and skinny even at a "healthy" weight.

i was amused last night to hear that the AMA has found that "fit but overweight" people tend to live longer than "slender, out-of-shape" people.

i think that the height/weight charts tend to be re-thunk.

but that's me.

I found that interesting too kitten, I was gonna post the link, but couldnt find it again. I also have a large frame, altho these days its a well covered prosperous frame, at my skinniest I had 38" hips. I was picked for the swim team in school because I had "big shoulders" and could pull thru the water faster than those smaller than me, also I canoed a lot and had lots of upper body strength........my calves measured 18 inches at age 17, and I have never been able to get fashion boots to fit me around the calves, back then I was dancing (ballroom and latin) six hours a week, there wasnt an inch of fat on them. When I got pregnant with my second kid, herei n canada, the gynaecologist said, "you could park two mac trucks in your hips"  aaah the joys of being built like a brick outhouse.... Now im fatter, plusher, whatever, welll what the hell. my mind is still sensual and erotic.... it didnt stop when I reached a size 14..... in fact it probably got more intense.
oh I found the link

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - When it comes to living longer, fitness may trump fatness, U.S. researchers said on Tuesday.
Men and women who were fit, as judged by a treadmill test, but were overweight or obese had a lower mortality risk than those of normal weight but low fitness levels, the study in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed.

Is there a conversion factor to figure your weight in dog pounds ?

How many St. Bernards are you ?

So how many Chi-wa-was are you ?

Hound dawgs anyone ?

camille65 -> RE: Big boned women (12/9/2007 12:04:35 AM)

I have a small frame except for my rib cage. In a bra I am 42C which forces me to buy shirts that are otherwise too large grrrrrr. In pants I'm a 12 because of my stomach and the thighs on the pants are huge on me.Just one year ago I was a size 6 and sometimes could fit into 4 for the first time in my life. I'd dropped from a horrid 225 in one year. Jeez I loved it, I loved loved walking into a store and grabbing a 6 off the rack and knowing it would fit. However having a rib cage so large I guess I really was severely underweight, both my dom and my doctor asked me to gain weight which totally sucked after having lost so much through illness. I donated every single piece of clothing over an 8 because I had been determined to never ever go back up in size. That ain't working lol, I'm creeping back up and my dom is very very pleased. I'm not. My pics are nearly 2 years old and I haven't a single 'new' one. Most of the time I feel like a fraud having those pics up but honestly they are the best photos I've ever had taken of me and I'm proud of those! I haven't a clue how others view me, if I'm pudgy looking, big boned looking (which I doubt given my genuinely small boned frame) but I am 5'7" and 155 pounds. In my pics I weighed 130 pounds. If I can ever find a good photographer in my area I will have pics done again but until then I really do wonder what I am viewed as. I see myself as borderline fat but that is because of how fun it was being 130. Hehe it angered me when people would say I was too thin especially given my health issues. That weight gave me nothing to fall back on when I got sick, it sapped all my reserves. So I will have to somehow accept that medically I need to be 155 pounds while in my head I 'need' to be 130 pounds. Eeeeeeets is so confusing! Am I fat, chunky, pudgy, jiggly or okay?? My butt is depressingly flat *sad sniffle* my legs rock!! But the tummy is much much softer than I'd prefer. I used to call myself big boned before I lost all that weight, now that I'm gaining some back I realise I am not big boned. I just used that to make myself feel better. BTW I find Queen Latifah totally hot [:D]
