MzMia good luck on your New Year's resolution, i have decided this year  not to have any as i never seem to keep them, resulting in a mild sort of depression over it lol.  i have never seen you outright rude or offensive ever on the threads, many of your posts have made me smile over the many months here on CM.  Every poster has a certain style which plays out over and over again through each thread, not a bad thing, just saying it can be predictable how it's going to go and what's going to be said.   i don't want to say i will "take the high road" because sometimes the low road is where you might get your point across. i do have my own personal limits though and when i say low road i don't mean becoming rude, condescending and harsh i just mean not backing down from others who might be. i see that as a form of intimidation and i don't like bullies and  if something is important to me i won't back down.  Is that taking the low road?  i do tend to avoid threads where there is lots of drama or debate that is heated, it's getting harder and harder to find them lol .  i wish you success in your endeavors over the next year though [:)]

Ahhhh Stella!!! Happy New Year my sistah girl!
I have learned at my advancing age, that if something does not feel right,

you have a right to feel those feelings.
KWIM?
These days it is not cool to say things "urk" you or you are offended.

Don't we have a RIGHT to be offended any more?
The intent might be harmless, but if you are offended, then well you have a right to be offended.

I am thinking of some other sayings from the old South, so I must just let it go.

Thank you so much for the kind post~
One of my points here, is we have a right to be offended, and hopefully this is one place we do NOT have to pretend we are NOT offended.
This post is how you handle being offended and then taking the high road.
Thanks Stella!

MzMia yes you are right, we do have a right to be offended. And we do have a right to express our feelings and inform others when we are offended.

However from personal experience I know that people who cause offence to others on the basis of that person's characteristics due to circumstances or birth such as gender, tone and colour of skin, personal disabilities, scars, physical appearance etc is usually due to limited intellectual capacity of the said person which is often combined with extraordinary powers of stupidity and idiocy.

I have tried so many times, believe me, but I have yet to win any argument with these people.

I have looked at this problem through prayer and meditation, and the Lord communicates the same to me.

We are all God's children, and God loves us all. Part of that love is a concern for our own personal development.

This is why we have oxygen, and fresh air, and water, and sunshine, and warmth, to help us develop physically, but this is why God has also provided us with idiots who walk among us, to test our inner natures and characters and help us develop emotionally and intellectually.

I have therefore learned to be grateful that there are so many idiots in this world, I have embraced them, I even like them, for they help me identify the intelligent and wise people in this world from who I can learn and develop myself in the hope that I may one day become more intelligent and wise.

This is feel is part of the process of taking the High Road.

And there is little chance of anyone doing so.
But if there is always someone calling BS on their ignorance mongering, it becomes harder for them to infect so many people with their hatred and bigotry.

That alone makes it worthwhile to be confrontational, even if it means not always taking the high road.

I'll tell you the straight truth, MzMia.  I plan to keep right on taking whichever road looks like the most interesting ride.

That's my policy as well... when i first saw the thread title i figured, if the high road runs through the mountains, looks nice and twisty and isn't snowed in yet, hell yeah!

What i try to avoid doing is offending people when it won't accomplish anything. There are threads that basically consist of people beating their heads against the same old dirty, hair-covered walls and going nowhere, and i usually can't see the appeal (well, one or two exceptions [:D]). If i think someone is being a twit because they're missing a point, i'll try to introduce the point. If i think someone is attacking a group that i feel defensive or protective of, i'll counter-attack. But with limited time, i tend to avoid a lot of threads that i think will set me off unless i see interesting people posting in them.

bipolarber -> RE: Do you try to take the High Road on Collar Me? (12/8/2007 7:23:01 AM)

I don't think I'd take any "road." I'd simply not engage the slime in conversation. It only encourages them. I'd just report the offensive jerks, and let the Mods remove the threads, and ban the posters... that's their job.

KatyLied -> RE: Do you try to take the High Road on Collar Me? (12/8/2007 7:24:53 AM)

I'd rather take the Robert Frost road.

And I took the one less traveled by
And that has made all the difference

I am enjoying reading the responses here.
So many different ways we can react to life and situations......

Has anyone else here noticed that many people tend to respond in the
same manner.....no matter what the thread or topic is?

I noticed this a long time ago.

Things that make ya go hummmm.

Yes, it is their personality speaking.  Some are serious, silly, sarcastic, and a mixture of all.  And some are, well, I hate to say it, but some are stupid.

DrkJourney -> RE: Do you try to take the High Road on Collar Me? (12/8/2007 7:37:19 AM)

I don't know if it's the high road or not...but I've learned to just ignore such things and move on to the next.   I've seen some people on here that always have the opposite opinion no matter what it is and are usually nasty about it.  I mean you say the sky is blue they will argue it's red...these people are not here to discuss, just to flame...so no need even bothering.

Now if you directed this statement to emails, well those are sent "to" me.  I swear wanting to argue, or should I say try to make people angry, is a fetish of some people...lol   I try to be diplomatic, I try to be nice...but when someone keeps bothering you, even when you block them, sometimes you just have to put the gloves on....LOL

again...just my opinion

Well, we can look at it another way.
If you tend to respond in the same manner most of the time, no matter what the topic is,
at what point do I stop listening or even care?

If the tone of all your communications tends to be the same, at some point
I don't read most of what you type. Why should I?  It's the same damn thing,
said on a million threads.

Now it's the same old song....with the same old things...that you say in the same old way
in every thread you type on collarme. [;)]

Kana -> RE: Do you try to take the High Road on Collar Me? (12/8/2007 7:41:34 AM)

I try and tell the truth
but I do try and avoid mudlsinging.
There are certain people that I almost never respond to and others whose posts I gloss over as I have found that they are merely trying to elicit either attention or responses.
As much as possible I try to stick to my own experiences and avoid the propogation of opinions

KatyLied -> RE: Do you try to take the High Road on Collar Me? (12/8/2007 7:43:39 AM)

There are some people whom I do ignore and easily so.  There are also some topics I won't open because I know it's the same people spouting off and I've heard all their tired stuff before.  There are also some ops whom I will read because I like what they say or at the very least I can read their words and consider it expanding my own.

Constantly announcing one is taking the high road generally is just another form of the low road.

Not just announcing... starting a whole thread dedicated to how you are taking the high road!

Actually, {repeating this for at least the 5th time here}, for those with poor reading comprehension skills.
I asked several questions on this thread, THAT'S what it is about.
Do you try to take the high road, the low road or no road on collarme?
Also, so I don't need to announce it anymore, I added it to my signature line last night for folks like you. [:D]

SweetSarijane -> RE: Do you try to take the High Road on Collar Me? (12/8/2007 7:56:50 AM)

I don't take any road. I just say what's on my mind be it blunt, serious, sarcastic, humorous, what have you. A lot of times I choose not to say anything, but rather read(listen) and let it be while mulling it over. I don't "exhalt" myself to take the high road or "lower" myself to take the low road, I simply speak/post or don't depending on whether I wish to or not.

popeye1250 -> RE: Do you try to take the High Road on Collar Me? (12/8/2007 7:57:13 AM)

There's that word again; "offensive."
Anally-retentive, politically-correct people love to use that word.
They go through life "offended" at everything and by the people in their lives or people they hear and what they say.
Those are the people I hope (are) "offended" by me!
You know, the kind of people the Three Stooges used to throw pies at. "Stuffed shirts", they called them in those days. "Well I never...!"
They don't consider themselves part of the Hoi Poloi.
And I wonder just "who" gets to determine what this mythical "high road" is? Is there like a "secret committee" or something?
Monthly meetings? Do they get paid for their opinions?
And how would they get picked to be on such a committee?
"Hey! I found a great new potential political-correctness committee member!"
"She hasn't had a bowel movement in a decade!"
It's fun watching or listening to anally-retentive people, they don't even *realise* that they're doing it! lol

MzMia -> RE: Do you try to take the High Road on Collar Me? (12/8/2007 8:02:14 AM)

Hiya Popeye!
I think each one of us, has our own internal high road.

Your high road, might be my low road.
For ME, online it means NOT being drawn into obvious arguments and debates.
After a while, you can see those that often post just to ridicule, belittle others,
start or promote arguments, debates, and just tend to give off negative energy.
Why not say your peace and just move on?
Great post.

So I guess that either means you think in 2008 you'll be able to show more self-restraint about making snotty comments like these, or you just set the bar way lower than most people for what defines the high road. Looks to me like it's the latter.

As for me, I'll take whatever road seems right at the time, though it is sure to be the low road when some hypocrite hops up on a pedestal.
