Sometimes when I am reading the forums I see posts going through that don't get posted right away.  Instead of their thoughts I see the words "awaiting approval", I guess from the mods.
I have also seen first time posts (I saw 6 of these the other day from the same person), state the post is awaiting approval.
Why does this happen?
Kyst

Excellent question Kyst.

I just checked with the Moderators (all of them...it was unanimous), and this is what they told me:

"Awaiting Approval" is for people who were raised without Grrranimals clothing and have still in an adult stage in their lives, not learned that stripes do not go with plaid".

How clever and arch of you? Kudos for your use of sarcasm on this dreary Sunday morning. Perhaps you too, might one day find yourself among the hallowed halls of posters whose bluntness and sarcasm were deemed too scary for the tender souls of the boards. You just escaped it for the moment, bud. But keep it up, someone is watching.

P.S. I neither wear stripes or plaid, I tend towards basic black with great accessories.

I don't know why you have this petty little axe to grind with me, but it's getting rather tiresome.

It's the darn Libs, with their crazy educational system. [:D]

I think the overwhelming majority of us appreciate what you do, even when we are being a pain.

ME too. I am sorry some people are creepy and maybe a threat to innocent people, but it's usualy pretty amusing to watch them go down in flames cause they're to stupid to keep shut.

Yes, because calling someone a douche bag after being warned repeatedly is the absolute pinnacle of sarcasm.  You need to let this go.

The person behind Mod 11 changes.  Some have been a kick in the butt and some have been tempermental.

While I'd like to believe all people change as they learn and grow, it's clear some people never will.  If you're trying to say that different people have used this account to moderate the forums, you are once again incorrect.

I don't know why you have this petty little axe to grind with me, but it's getting rather tiresome.

Go to 12! Go to 12 on her ass!
Do you Moderators ever talk to each other?

kc692 -> RE: "Awaiting approval" (12/23/2007 10:37:19 AM)

I dont think 11 has to go to anyone.......do you?[;)]

laurell3 -> RE: "Awaiting approval" (12/23/2007 10:50:11 AM)

I think the reality is this.  It really isn't all that difficult to cease and desist when warned.  It really isn't all that difficult to respect that we have a place to post our opinions, meet friends, laugh at jokes, cry at sad stories and even be outraged at abusive or ridiculous ones within limits.  You can voice your opinion without being personal (after all you don't personally know the posters, why would you attack them personally?), without mentioning unmentionables and without being harassing. It is sometimes difficult to step away from the keyboard when you feel you are being attacked personally, however, one can't blame the rules when they break them knowingly.

The Moderators and all the people that run this site are volunteers.  They have jobs to pay their bills and in their spare time they read our drivel, approve our pictures, answer complaints (many I'm sure that aren't all that valid) and attempt to keep the peace.  You could not pay me enough personally to read all the threads on this board and I can't imagine wanting to review all the pics submitted here personally.  While at times I too get heated arguing, I try to always keep in the back of my mind that it isn't personal, I don't know the posters and for the most part never will and I don't really want an adult babysitter to waste their time on my outbursts.  For any of you I've ever offended, please accept my apology and realize it is not even remotely close to personal.

I've seen some rather silly people on these boards that still manage to toe the line and repeatedly post really silly things and are never moderated (to my knowlege).  I do believe CM does the best they can to allow all of us to express our opinions and even express them strenously within limits.  I respect that and thank them for their time and wish them and all of you happy holidays.

Now can we please have more smutty threads and less arguing?  Thanks!  [;)]

LadyLupineNYC -> RE: "Awaiting approval" (12/23/2007 10:51:49 AM)

I have been finger-waged once or twice and, as far as I am concerned, it could happen dozens more times and that is a-ok with me. Having said that, as strong as I am, when I saw this moring that Mod 11 looked at my profile (note that I didn't use the phrase 'perved my profile'- Mods are WAY more classy than that) and I swear it was like I was called to the principal's office. [sm=ugh.gif]  Something that never happened to me when I was in school!  I literally was like 'oh no! *searches memory bank for possible offence* what did I do!?'. In the end, she just looked- nothing more. And I have to say "Kudos!" now THAT is real power when just the sight of your bold red name makes someone pause...

Just wondering…being totally ignorant of the workings of CM… do the moderators get paid? Also are moderators allowed to have a second ID where they can participate in CM on a regular basis? If so does this ever result in an ethical conflict?

Butch

Lordandmaster -> RE: "Awaiting approval" (12/23/2007 11:37:19 AM)

Yes, that's the part I don't understand either.  I don't think anyone has ever been put on moderation without ample warning beforehand.

KC, you took that out of context.
Moderator 6 once told me; "don't make me go to "7" on you!"
Meaning, take it to the next level.

I told her, "Only intelligent people can understand my sense of humor."

They do not get paid, anymore than the thankless picture reviewers and admin on the other side.  They do it because they believe in the site, period.  No reward of any kind exist, except when they get kudos from users. They do have other nicks because they were users before they became mods.  One reason why there are so few mods is the point you raised...both the mods and the reviewers on the other side do their work based on what tos and the site owners want.  They may or may not always agree with it, but have to be able to take emotion out of the equation, which not many of us can do,lol!!!! There are many volunteers for both jobs, but seperating yourself from what you are trusted and expected to do from the site's point of view is not always easy.

So I have heard anyway.........[;)]

Smiles, I was gonna tell you I understood and was teasing back, but I have that kind of sense of humor too I guess, (that or I am too inept at expressing my humor clearly!!)

OrionTheWolf -> RE: "Awaiting approval" (12/23/2007 11:57:20 AM)

Fast reply:

While it may seem inconsistant, if no one reports a post because of an insult, it is likely to not be read by a mod. Then a very minor insult occur in a different thread that someone reports, and you get a warning. As blunt and as much of an asshole I am, I see where there is consitancy, because some posters will report any perceived slight. If two posters can handle a provocative, and confrontational discussion, I have not seen the mods egt involved until someone complains or there is way over the line insults.

If someon does not like the policies here, they do not have to post here. These mods are volunteers, and without them, there may be no forums or the quality of the forums be diminished. Those that are complaining, should take it off board and contact CM directly.

My tag line says the rest.

GenicMisfit -> RE: "Awaiting approval" (12/23/2007 12:04:04 PM)

The TOS and the "guidelines" aka the "rules" do not govern anything here the law does.   Yet when you are a moderator here on CollarChat you seem to be able to do what you want to do. This includes allowing friends and associates to attack other people then banning other people for just debating.   If you will note who is allowed to repeatedly attack others you will also probably find them as moderators or friends of moderators here.   You also cannot legally censor speech with broad rules that are all inclusive-you must be specific and have an overwhelming legal reason.   Nor can they legally play favorites; which does occurs.   Though, they do not want you to know more than they do about this so that they can censor or ban anyone for any reason.

I agree with you, I had this happen to me last week.
But life is not always fair,. and this place is free.
He who has the gold rules, and those that own this site-rule.
I am glad that we are allowed to even have this conversation.

Many here have serious attitude problems and some others are just plain negative,
confrontational and nasty.
Sometimes it is best to take to the high road when dealing with lower life people,
and ignore them.

I have a few on ignore and that feature is a blessing!
They have made features that you can use, to eliminate posters that you no longer
want to see or deal with!
Magic, presto! They have disappeared~[:D]

Thank you Collarme!
Fair, not fair, whatever, I love it here on Collarme.

Nonsense.  It's their treehouse, they have every right to make their own rules.  You have every right to vote with your feet.

Orion, I'm not sure it is so much about 'what is reported' as what catches a passing Mod's eye.  If you are going to call someone (other than President Bush) a worthless moron, who would have been better off Daddy had jerked off instead, at least try to put it deep enough in the post to miss the scroll.
