I hope 69 of them aren't loaded.     Most people can only control one weapon at a time.    Having others loaded gives the attacker opportunity to improve upon his armament.

That said, I typically have at least 2 loaded at any give time and that is generally not advised.    However, one is hidden in my vehicle and I set my my truck alarm even when it is in the garage.   The others are within my reach, on my person, or locked in my safe (I'm a bit too lazy to unload and reload my CCW's that I store in my safe.)

Homey don't play nice when it comes to threats of bodily harm and death.   The state of Tennessee says I can use lethal force to nuetralize such threats and I approve of our laws.

Oh yeah....For the record..........

There are 2 CCWs that you REALLY don't want to have me shooting at you.   The primary is my j-frame .357 the other is my .380.

I shoot competition with pistol and I have a nasty habit of hitting my targets.    I simply don't miss with those two weapons.    That .380 don't hit hard, but I can shoot is FAST and ACCURATE.     The .357 is my weapon of choice, but it's hard to shoot more than 3 rounds because of the noise.    I'm shooting medium loaded, 110 grain Core Bonds and it's still like a spike in your ear when you don't have hearing protection.

If I can talk a bad guy into letting me put on hearing protection before I shoot him, I will rock his world with my revolver.   That said, I typically have 3 to 5 rounds to nuetralize the threat.   Given my accuracy with that weapon, I live with those odds.

My middle of the road weapon is my S&W model 4006 chambered in .40 S&W.    It's bulky, heavy and hard to hide, but I'm pretty decent with it and it holds 11 rounds.

My monster is my Ruger P90 which is chambered in .45 ACP.    I'm VERY accurate with that weapon and shoot it in competition.    It also hits hard as hell.     It's a LOT of gun to carry concealed.   It used to be my household defense weapon, but that didn't make sense with my CCWs so now it sits in my safe until I'm ready to compete.

ROCK ON with the Steavens. I also started shooting at age 6. We had a bolt action .22 and a .410 single shot that I started with. Dad traded both in my teen years and it makes me sad now. I have the 300 Remmington chambered in .308 Winchester and the Remmington Mohawk that dad used through my teen years. They mean a LOT to me and I would take them over the .410 or the .22, but I wish I had them all. My brother was never much of a hunter, he's a pistol shooter and a damn good one. He has dad's .38's and they mean as much to him. It is interesting how it worked out because we are so different and dad owned certain weapons that meant SOOOOO much to each of us. My half brother has dad's .30-.30 which dad rarely hunted with, but the few times when Butch hunted with dad he pulled out his .30-.30 lever action because we were going into the really thick brush. It would have been so easy for each of us to have the same weapons be special, but it just didn't happen that way and it was so great because individuals weapons had such special meaning to each of us.

On the subject of loaded v unloaded, I ask you this...... What happens when you're in bed at 0300 and the burglar crawls into the window on the other side of the house. You're going to be dead to the world while he looks through your house for stuff and he's going to find those loaded weapons. I prefer to have my primary weapon close to me and loaded. I do break this rule when it comes to my BUG and my vehicle, but I'm not going to make it easy for a punk to find one of my weapons locked, cocked, n ready to rock. My weapon is MY weapon, everyone else needs to bring their own.

A shoulder rig makes it quiet easy,MY lady have a 22 magum .auto about the size of a pack of smokes,now a 22 mag will take you away from here quick...

I don't wanna get shot with anything, but I'm not willing to shoot someone with anything less than a .380 and I have no respect for any projectile smaller than .30 inches in diameter against a human target.

Heck...I'm really not a fan of your 9mm Luger but I do admit that it is slightly more powerful than my .380.   The only reason I own my .380 is the fact that it is insanely easy to conceal. I can carry this thing in a bathing suit and you won't see it.    (No, that is not an exaggeration and I can show you how if you really want to know.)

That said, my Ruger is the same length and height as a Model 1911.   To make matters worse, it is about .75 inches fatter and the same weight.      I CAN carry it concealed with an IWB holster, but it sux to wear an IWB with a weapon that fat and that heavy.    I carry my S&W 4006 in a pancake and it is comfortable, but I can't take my jacke off.

Side note, I know a couple of people who carry 1911s with IWBs and like it. I'm very happy for them and I LOVE their side arms, but I don't find that method of carry comfortable for that weapon because of the weight (I have experimented with their gear.)

That said, I typically outshoot them in competition with my Ruger. :D

Lots (and fucking lots) of fireworks, for several hours last night. No gunfire last night, but quite a bit a couple of mornings ago, hunters out in one of the nearby marshes.

muttling and bounty, so glad i don't live anywhere near you two!

i'm really appreciating australia and especially adelaide at the moment! lot less guns. only cops and others licensed are allowed guns - permit only, and unless you're a cop of such, you're not allowed to have them, or have ammo on your person or in your house. strictly firing ranges only. course, in the bush, it's a bit different.

that of course means the bad guys who get the weapons illegally are better armed - but lordy, we just don't have as much shooting deaths as you guys do! (mind you, we also have a vastly smaller population as well for such a big country)

No gunfire here, thank goodness. We haven't become immune to the sound of it, so if you do hear gunfire at any time (New Year's Eve or otherwise), you can reasonably assume that someONE is being shot at. On the other hand, if it was a single shot, I suppose you'd then wonder if a) you heard it for real and b) was it actually a gunshot, or a car back-firing?

I don't think I've ever actually heard one (other than skeet shooters at the range) before. Like to keep it that way too,

I live in the middle of no where, in one of the bottom two tiers of counties in Iowa...aka almost Missouri. We call it lapland, where Missouri lapped over into Iowa. That being said, there is ALWAYS gunfire this time of year, day or night. They are always hunting for something. There is also the gawdawful braying of hunting dogs to accompany the blasting.

I almost forgot the tendency of the testoserone ladden peacocks to strut their feathers anytime the subject of guns come up. It is hilarious and quite entertaining........up to a point.

I wonder, do they realize how ignorant and silly it makes them look?

From 11:45PM until about 12:20AM, all the police patrols, fire and rescue, security, taxis, pizza delivery, and anyone with a lick of sense, pull up under bridges, bank drive-throughs, or something to catch the falling rounds before they hit their vehicles.

Sounds like a small war... way up from the cluster of shots every half hour or so during the rest of the year.

At a little past 12 the old bitty that lives next door called me and told me Happy New Year then told me "If you would in the morning when the sun is out and its a pretty day come get that shit off my roof" Seems some one was shooting fire works off and they were landing on her trailer. I explained to her i was playing cards and not shooting anything off this year. She then asked me to go outside and see if i could tell who was shooting fireworks off and call her back. At this point i had been drinking for about 6 hours so i told her exactly where she could go how she could get there and what to do once she got there. Her husband came over this morning to thank me said she was still so pissed she won't speak its the best morning he has had in years.

We had some gunfire early in the night. I just hope they had the sense to be aiming out into the desert.

Strangely enough, the sound of the wind howling around the house was louder than most of the gunfire. Only heard a few good booms (shotguns, perhaps?)

Actually, state laws vary dramatically as they define what is reasonable and some states (most notably California) have added requirements to the fear requirement. Several states require that you attempt to retreat before you can use lethal force (I don't know if they still do, but California ued to require you TWICE atempt to flee even if you're in your own home).   None of southeasten states have a retreat requirement.

Here's a great example, Tennessee state law says you are "presumed to be in fear for your life" if someone has made an unlawful entry into your home    OR   if they have entered your home exited then are trying to make re-entry.

That "presumption of fear" is CRUCIAL and most states do not have that.   If the prosecutor wants to charge me for shooting an intruder into my home, it is for HIM to prove why I should not have been in fear for my life.   In most states, it is the other way around and his presence in my home is not justification in of itself. If the guy breaks into my garage then tries to come in through the back door, I can shoot him through the door. Tennessee is the ONLY state that allows this and the law was passed following a court case where a home owner was charged with manslaughter after he shot the re-entry burglar through his kitchen door.   Normally, this would illegal because the intruder posed a threat but did not have access until he made entry and you are not allowed to use lethal force until the individual has access to you.

On another, Tennessee law states that you can ONLY use lethal force to nuetralize the threat. You can not use it to kill, wound, or frighten an attacker and that is critical to know because if you use such force you better tell the police "I nuetralized the threat to my life."   If you said, "he threatened to kill me so I killed him" your attorney is going to be doing a lot backpeddling.

If you're going to carry or you keep a firearm for home protection, you better know your state laws extremely well so you know WHEN you can use it and you know the correct phrases to say when speaking to officers following your use of force.   Last and MOST importantly, insist on legal counsel during questioning.   Give the police sufficeint information to secure the scene but don't give blow by blow details without an attorney. (Cops will be quite understanding as they do the same exact thing when they are involved in a lethal force event.)
