For about a year now Fox has been under orders to try masturbating in new positions or with new techniques. Every month or every other month I then ask him how it is going and have him perform for me, getting his feedback and watching how it works.

1)  Yes, as you said if it's the right man in the right situation.
2)  No, it's fun at other times.

Considering that there is some societal issues with masturbation, how would you deal with a man who was raised to think of it as something dirty to be hidden away and ashamed of if he must do it at all?  i understand that part of the appeal can be the humiliation aspect, but if he is to embarrassed to perform effectively with an audience (even and audience of one he loves and respects); how do you work through that?  Do you simply demand he does it, or do you have some method to ease him into the idea and the act; and would you reinforce the humiliation if he is unable to get it up or off while you watch?

This activity is so luscious to me that it's all but a requirement. Many men are shy about it at first, but their shyness isn't that hard to overcome. You do it gradually, step-wise. In the case of a sub who's somewhere in the region of phobic about masturbating in front of another person, you do it very gradually, baby-step-wise. You follow the basic principles of desensitization to any phobia, the idea being to desensitize the shy sub to another person's presence while masturbating.

In one case, early on the sub and I would have a lovely evening, playing and enjoying ourselves. And then I'd leave. I'd tell him that I fully expected him to masturbate when I left, and I required him to email me a lengthy and detailed report immediately afterward. A lot of people are ashamed of masturbating, and like to pretend they don't. Just recognizing and insisting on the reality gets past a major mental barrier. 1    Yes, it is extremely intimate and can be very romantic (with the right man)

I think this is like most societal training -- it requires consistent, positive feedback to help someone become comfortable.

Perhaps holding the person as well, adding your own touches (not genital since he is learning to perform) such as stroking hair/head, caressing leg/arm would help as well.
