Owner, I don't think Rush Limbaugh or "The Right" speak for most people in here.
Do you peek out the window before you leave the house to make sure Rush Limbaugh isn't hiding in the bushes "waiting" for you?
"Ha, 2:30 he's still in the studio!"

Sounds kinda rascist to me.  Can't we all just get along?

Kaiynasha -> RE: Does Obama's win prove we are colorblind? (1/6/2008 7:10:39 PM)

Heretic now you want a truce? Well you started the conversation about welfare. I just want to make sure the conversation is fair and factual. Not slanted in anyway. This is not about race & welfare- this is about race & Obama.

I enjoy intelligent and stimulating conversation but I always believe in backing up what you have to say. Simple as that.

Hey! If Obama were to win hows about he picks AL SHARPTON for Vice President!
"You can NOT petition the Vice President with a brandnew Cadillac now get the fuck out of here you illegal alien mother fuckers!"
"And don't come back to the U.S. or I'll do a drive-by on your asses!"

Well and good.  I'm not going to try and back up the words that others try to to put into my posts though.  You haven't attacked a single thing I've said, only what your rascist attitudes tell you to think.

Kaiynasha -> RE: Does Obama's win prove we are colorblind? (1/6/2008 7:23:24 PM)

LOL...if Al Sharpton became Vice President- I feel sorry for all of us. All of us are doomed. Now that I am thinking about it, who would be Obama's vice president? Clinton? I don't know if that would work either. She would be mad as hell.

MzMia, I am really amusing myself. I ain't mad at Heretic. [:)]

Joe Biden or Wesley Clark might be interesting possibilities.

Oh come on 'Nasha he'd *have* to have Reverand Al in his Administration somewhere!
That would be entertaining as hell.
"Secy of Defence Al Sharpton threatens al qeuda."
"Treasury Secy Al Sharpton buys fourth house in two weeks."
"Secy of Education Al Sharpton tells kids, "learn your ABD's."

I came across an article on Yahoo News that asks the question.  (link here).  I'm curious what others on the board think.  Have we come far enough that his race isn't an issue?

It would certainly be bad news for those of color who use rascism as a red herring on their own shitty behavior.

You're forgetting, he is not black, he is mixed race. Isn't he 50% white? and hey, the man sounds white. If he was very black with an accent like a soul brother and people were interested in only what he had to say, I'd say yes, America is colour blind.

NeedToUseYou -> RE: Does Obama's win prove we are colorblind? (1/7/2008 11:53:57 AM)

General  Reply. I think it's obvious that race apparently is the most important thing. No one has jumped in and said "I support obama because of x, y, and z position", just going on about who is and isn't a racist.

I watched the democrat debates the other night, and I still have no idea what this "change" obama, and hillary are harping about. They said "change" about 100 times, I thought they were toll booth operators talking of "Making Change" They like to talk of change. But what the hell are they changing? Universal Healthcare? Is that it? That's a  small part of a huge problem. So, why doesn't some Obama supporter line out his positions and solutions for us. I'm actually interested in why he's doing well. I casually have listened to clips of him, and to be honest I just hear generalities. Maybe I'm missing the meat.

There has to be someone that can outline his plan for "change" here. What is it? Where's the beef? I only see pickles.... (old wendy's commercial).

I  think he voted for the patriot act, for Iraq funding. He doesn't talk of monetary policy.  What exactly is he changing? Healthcare? there has to be more than that.

(I could be wrong about any of the above, like I said I'm 10 times more focused on the republicans than the democrats at this point, because Ron Paul is there).

African American?

hisannabelle -> RE: Does Obama's win prove we are colorblind? (1/7/2008 2:06:16 PM)

greetings all,

OBVIOUSLY race is going to be the issue. this is the only black man ever to have a viable chance at being president. it's just as much of an issue if we actually had a non-christian with a viable chance at being president. or, in hillary clinton's case, a woman.

what i don't understand is what people don't get about the fact that saying he's a "black candidate" versus a "candidate who happens to be black" is not fair. every white candidate (that is, all of them, ever) has always gotten to be a white candidate, not a candidate who happens to be white, and they've never gotten shit about it. but all of a sudden a black man actually gets a chance, and it's all, "oh, he's a BLACK candidate." in hillary's case, she's the "female candidate." nobody ever says that about male candidates - it's not, "oh, he's the MALE candidate." he's just a candidate. women and people of color do not get that luxury. voters who are female and of color do not get that luxury, either - it's about getting the "black vote" and the "women's vote" - why do we never hear someone talking about getting the "white vote" and the "male vote"?

the other thing that gets me is that he's supposed to "represent black people." white people do not have a "white people's candidate." the idea that there is a "black person's candidate" who can speak for the "black community" is just asinine - about as asinine as saying there's a "white people's candidate" who speaks for the "white community." (or a "women's candidate" who speaks for "women.")

respectfully,
annabelle. who is pale as pale can be, by the way. and will probably be voting for obama since he's the only candidate with a snowball's chance who even comes remotely close to representing her beliefs on major issues - and even then, misses by a mile some of the time.

...i think that speech he was told to give the UN regarding WMD's broke his heart for politics......

as do I,  he shoulda ran.  But, he has gotten off the train at the very first stop and has made the rounds (honorably) and said (more or less, but more than less) his speech at the UN was a joke he was trying out for a cocktail party.

......i have to say, he needs better joke writers.......and i think it's a shame. Of all the Bush cabinet, he was the only one that seemed honourable......and that just made that speech all the more distasteful.

samboct -> RE: Does Obama's win prove we are colorblind? (1/7/2008 2:44:42 PM)

Meg

I think there have been white candidates- George Wallace comes to mind (he was openly pro-segregationist and openly bigoted), and there certainly have been others that I'm blanking on right now.  So, not all candidates happen to be white, but it's certainly been a majority for a long time.  But I agree- I'm rooting for Obama because I like his stance on increasing R+D and tightening up environmental standards to help move us off a fossil fuel economy.  (there needtouseyou- make you happy?) along with a host of other platform issues that I'm largely in agreement with- like doing something about health care, increasing the taxes on the wealthiest etc.  The fact that his skin has a darker color than most folks in this country is utterly irrelevant to me as long as he's electable- and that's looking increasingly likely.

Sam
