Rover -> RE: Overly romantizing the lifestyle (1/15/2008 4:03:58 PM)

Sorry I'm late to the party on this one (I've been traveling the past few days), and apologize if I'm simply repeating what others have said. But I feel compelled to respond since I'm one of the folks that's fond of pointing out what I consider to be excessively romanticized portrayals of BDSM. The "CastleRealm" thread is a good example of the kind of distaste many folks have for portrayals of BDSM straight out of fictional erotic novels... from the pages of "The Story of O" or "The Marketplace" or worse yet, the fictional creations of less "professional" writers. The rainbows and unicorns may be endearing in the same way that Nemo and Ariel are, but many folks get a bit perturbed when that cartoonish version is held out as representative of what *is* BDSM. It's childish, it's disingenuous, and it's just plain annoying. Other than that, I love it. John
