I think the desire for romance in any relationship is wanting to feel special, needed, appreciated and loved.  Nothing wrong in any relationship

Sorry I'm late to the party on this one (I've been traveling the past few days), and apologize if I'm simply repeating what others have said.  But I feel compelled to respond since I'm one of the folks that's fond of pointing out what I consider to be excessively romanticized portrayals of BDSM.

The "CastleRealm" thread is a good example of the kind of distaste many folks have for portrayals of BDSM straight out of fictional erotic novels... from the pages of "The Story of O" or "The Marketplace" or worse yet, the fictional creations of less "professional" writers.  The rainbows and unicorns may be endearing in the same way that Nemo and Ariel are, but many folks get a bit perturbed when that cartoonish version is held out as representative of what *is* BDSM.

It's childish, it's disingenuous, and it's just plain annoying.  Other than that, I love it.

John

Well, I guess it's a rude awakening for somebody if they think I'm Prince Charming.  Even more so, when I have them tied up and bent over... using them from behind, spanking their ass.. pulling hair and saying wicked nasty perverted things.  LOL...

Well that IS my prince charming most of the time.  That part is the nonidealistic part.  Believing they always adhere to a role or aren't a flawed human being just like everyone else because of their role is the problem I see all too often.

"I think to me the term overly romantasized, means acting like it's all flowers and unicorns and fluffy white cotton candy clouds, and after you both orgasm you'll both fly off into the sunset happily ever after type of portrayal of what it is we do."

guess im the only guilty one here!
but hey guess what? i have seen rainbows and flowers and little birdies.
and you know what else? sometimes it really really sucks!

seems here that overly normalizing it is the only twue response tho...
