...Satan, or the concept of a ''beast'', is NOT a Christian concept. Eons before all 3 of the large monothestic religions were a twinkle in someone's eye mankind carried a belief that there was ''something'' evil out to take away the sun and mankind. After that came the concept of the ''something'' evil being out to destroy the Gods and mankind, making it rain, setting fires in the forest,  causing the general occasional havoc. Then along came Judiasm followed by Christianity and Islam. The ''something'' evil was then given a name and a history. Dante's Inferno is where we first see the concept of what Satan and hell are supposed (as in suppos-ed if you can get the difference in word meanings with the same word) to be; also a work of fiction by the way. Dante was not a Prophet but a writer...
You are absolutely right about the statement I bolded. However, in this country and in this culture, the only thing most people know about Satan is what they learned in Sunday School, and I can assure you that it is neither historically nor theologically correct. Do you think it was an Atheist or Zoroastrian who misinformed the OP?

Most people on this site aren't anything as we are all individuals. Also those who live an alternative lifestyle is not the same as a fetish. My life happens not to be a fetish. Satan, or the concept of a ''beast'', is NOT a Christian concept. Why I wasted the pixels here I am not sure because I still believe that you're talking out of your arse. On such a ridiculous question I see no need to state my religon though Satanism it is not.

There is the idea that to give evil a name is to invite it to your door. While "evil" is not a Christian concept, Satan is. If you were Egyptian it would be Seth (or Set), if you were Mayan it would be maybe Ah Puch (Death God) or Ixtab (Suicide Goddess). But, even in the religious belief of these cultures I do not believe (IMHO) that these "dark" god/dess were considered evil. They were just the other side of the balance. For light there must be dark, for order there must be chaos, for life there must be death, etc... But, Satan, on the other hand, is seen as the personification of evil, true maliciousness without cause, reason, or balance (unless it would be jealousy?). That is a Christian view. As stated in an earlier post, not even Jews see Satan as thus. Of course all of this is just my opinion, I'm sure others may see it differently.

Yesh is this another alleged attention seeking ploy or just inane paranoia by the unbalanced?  We've been down this road, get off it already.

Gwynvyd -> RE: I read that most people are satanists on this site but how true is that?Is it linked to the fetish (1/18/2008 8:39:28 PM)

I have never seen satanists lazing about here.. but the place is lousy with Christians, Pagans, Buddhists, Hindus, Jewish folk... you name it.... however Satanists have never come up in conversation.

A friend of mine's wife is the Wife of Satan... ( my friend isnt evil.. but his wife sure the hell is ) does that count? LOL

I think what the one poster explained about how the fundementalists believe all BDSMers are really has a vaild point.. it may explain why the question was first posed.

However it is akin to saying I heard every one in Vermont is Gay... how many of you are from Vermont, and Gay?

Mass generalizations are just silly.

Gwyn,
Who is Hindu, with a smattering of other things like Buddhist and a bit of other stuff that works for her tossed in.

Do you even have a clue as to "what?" a Satanist is?? A true one? If you did, I do not think you would ask such a question. Really now, I am just laughing my head off. What a question to ask in such times as these. You made my week LOL!!

And by the way, I am a Chaos Mage. but

Sorry, no. It's grape soda. One of the more disappointing discoveries in modern theology.

One must be intellectually honest and open-minded in order to accept the sexual practices and beliefs of those who are not 'mainstream.'

No gripe with the rest, given the qualifiers at the end, but I disagree with this one.

There is nothing to indicate any correlation between kink and open-mindedness. In fact, because kinksters are already "one step ahead" (while still within the norm, but often not seeing this), it is rather common to find them less open-minded, if anything. Probably, though, it's just a case of the "closed" sign being more visible due to the inherent hypocrisy of stepping outside the norm, proclaiming a new norm, holding others to the new norm, and then bitching about how close-minded the average Joe is in not accepting this new norm with one fork of the tongue, and about how some people step outside it with the other fork.

No better or worse, and not actually different, but more visible.

Health,
al-Aswad.

~fast reply~
I'm not a satanist but I'm an atheist, which is almost as bad. I was stalked by a warlock for awhile during my freshman year at college. He was hot for the girl who was my best friend at the time, and he thought we were lovers. I  actually watched  him put a hex on my motorcycle and a mere four months later, it blew a head gasket...coincidence? I think not. He also tried to hex my roomate and me at a party, but we kept blowing out the candles and knocking shit over. I think that was my closest encounter with 'ol scratch.

Satanists are just too cool hang out with people who are so ignorant.

Look up "church of satan" sometimne-if you want to see what they are actually about.

And it ain't about sacricifing babies and kissing the devils ass.

We already have enough people aborting and worshiping the almighty dollar.

Bit of useless trivia....

The reason why the Mistletoe is a sacred plant is because the Druids thought the white berries on the plant resembled God's semen. The Norse had a different reason and it is why we kiss under the Mistletoe ;
The Norse god Balder was the best loved of all the gods. His mother was Frigga, goddess of love and beauty. She loved her son so much that she wanted to make sure no harm would come to him. So she went through the world, securing promises from everything that sprang from the four elements--fire, water, air, and earth--that they would not harm her beloved Balder.
Leave it to Loki, a sly, evil spirit, to find the loophole. The loophole was mistletoe. He made an arrow from its wood. To make the prank even nastier, he took the arrow to Hoder, Balder's brother, who was blind. Guiding Holder's hand, Loki directed the arrow at Balder's heart, and he fell dead.
Frigga's tears became the mistletoe's white berries. In the version of the story with a happy ending, Balder is restored to life, and Frigga is so grateful that she reverses the reputation of the offending plant--making it a symbol of love and promising to bestow a kiss upon anyone who passes under it.

In either case you never let Mistletoe touch the ground.

Gwyn

*grins* I would though my spiritual teachings frown upon casting of spells over other people without their explicit permission and if there is absolutely not chance of harming others. Thusly I am bound by the Credo
