hmm....I have no trouble giving respect where respect is due, that being said my favorite people in the lifestyle, the three men, each with over 30 years experience  doing this thing that we do all have me address them by their first name...no 'Master", no Sir, no M'Lord..I think the truly great ones keep it real, and know you respect them without the bs titles...one even pokes fun at the posturing while at socials or demos (yes he gives demonstrations nation wide)-and we call him "LordRustyMasteroftheUniverse"...all in fun

Point taken... I should've clarified to mean which title by your sub/slave

GabrielleSlave -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/21/2008 2:37:12 AM)

Quite often during moments of bliss i can be heard to whimper "Oh my God...!" to which Master looks me in the eye smiles and says "Yes?" lol!  i call Him Master because He is my Master, but if i am to be punished then He is Sir... A huge psychological difference to me.

Gabrielle x

While I like the term Lord in an old world type of way, Sir you can actually get away with in public.  Lord is probably going to draw some attention.

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/21/2008 3:05:58 AM)

Meh, With how I look and where I live, I draw attention anyway.... But I do see your point :P

RCdc -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/21/2008 3:09:30 AM)

I find Sir too multi-functional in everyday life to mean something - like 'Mr'.
Lord is cool.  Kinda victorian - aloof but passionate.  Great when serving.
Master is full of passion and grace.  Lord is personal - Master is for the masses (does that make sense?) As in, when I call Darcy Master, I would do so to others, Lord is more personal.

Makes sense to me

CNJDom -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/21/2008 3:16:20 AM)

Coming from the South, "Sir" is a common courtesy extended to any males that are older than you, or you are interacting with on a business or semi-professional manner.  So I find it sometimes difficult hearing "Sir" in certain contexts.  I like the respect that some use in it, but I sometimes don't view myself as being an older person now...but alas life is short, and the cycle continues.  From certain people I have no problem with it.  I like my subs calling me "Sir" or "Master"...while in play, I really enjoy Sir when I address them.  When I get a response from them on their own, I sometimes get "Master" while in play, and a "Sir" when in a social setting.  When I hear my actual name, it is shocking for me at times really, and for myself; I have suggested real names as a form of a safeword.
Titles or entitlements are very subjective, and sometimes have to be considered more than just words, or signs of respect.  They are also lables that we ask for or are given.  So I find it hard at times to accept some of the same words used in different contexts due to that inner thought of on what basis is this being used.  We find people calling themselves something with the intent of instant respect.  Others out of fun.  We can't take eachother too seriously no matter how far our journey has taken us into BDSM.  "Lord" actually is a hard one for me, I wouldn't want anyone to call me that seriously (while I know others get that warm and tingley feeling due to how they view this title) ... too many RenFests for me I suppose.
Now "Grand-Exhulted-Poo-Ba" that rolls nicely... Tough to say with a gag in one's mouth, but hey it sounds fun anyway you hear it!

A lot of Domme's go with "Goddess", but I never really see "God" around.  So.. who wants to be the first God?

Hell, we can all get pissy and have a flame fest in a thread titled, "War of the Gods", then make a movie based off of it to become rich.

I have quite happily refered to Darcy as God in my eyes - and he accepts it.  Lord pretty much resonates along those lines hey.

I can see the potential problem with Lord when you do SCA or Ren Faires (A friend of mine is actually "Lord Monkey, in the SCA)... And I agree "Grand-Exhulted-Poo-Ba" sounds great :P

batshalom -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/21/2008 3:46:18 AM)

I'm a southern girl, regardless of where I live at the moment.

"Sir" is a natural word for me to use in respect / deference to males of all ages. I even use it with my UM, always have, even when he was too little to understand language at all. I love the word and use it easily.

"Lord" is a natural word for me too ... but colloquially. Like "Ohhhh my LORRRRRRD!" in response to something surprising or bad or funny. I've never used it as a name for a Dom. It would be very hard for me.

"Master" took some getting used to. I had to practice that one. It made me want to chuckle every time I said it at first, and when I was practicing it, I would pause between the phrase and the word "Master" which made it sound as stilted as it felt. Fortunately, I was allowed to use "King", "M", and "Man" while I was getting used to it. In fact, I still used those phrases afterward because I am, afterall, southern, and love to use pet names.

Oh and by the way, those satonist promised cookies and never delivered!

HalloweenWhite -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/21/2008 3:58:27 AM)

Out of the 3, I prefer "Sir", to Me the other 2 sound "clunky" and awkward,strained. That all may change once I collar a submissive (when I find one, that is lol).

decstorm37 -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/21/2008 4:02:51 AM)

Like the OP my father was in the USMC and he was a Gunny.  So i was raised to call most people Sir.  Well anyone with silver or gold on their collar's. I was told that i was giving respect to the rank and not always the person.   I do call my Master Sir  but the tone of voice i use is totally diff when i call Him Sir.  He can hear the respect and devotion in my voice.  When i call other gentlemen Sir my voice is diff.  Wow  7 AM no sleep so i hope this makes sense.

Justme696 -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/21/2008 4:03:35 AM)

Interesting...I can see good reasons for all points made in the names choosen. It is very personal how you call your owner/lover, so their are no rights and wrongs.
But here how I see it.
Master.. is how my first girl called me and I like it because of my light Gorean background. Also my last girl was a kajira and called me that

Lord.... mmm reminds me of a PS2 game where a cartoon says  Ohhh LOrdie (I am beware..it is me making this stupid link)

Sir, is indeed nice for public...but doesn't feel íntense enough for me.

Dnomyar -> RE: Sir, Master, Lord (1/21/2008 4:12:53 AM)

Ok you all convinced me to change to be called Lord, God Master Sir, ect Dnomyar. If any of you submissives can get all of that out at once then you are worthy of me. For those of you with a speech impediment this ought to be interesting.
