While I like the term Lord in an old world type of way, Sir you can actually get away with in public.  Lord is probably going to draw some attention.

i live in the South also where we call every male 'sir' but to me there's a difference between 'excuse me, sir" and "i love You, Sir!"  Respect, for me, is an action not a word.  When my Master comes to meet my family, we have agreed on  'my Love' as His 'title' while around others who may not understand our relationship.

To others, he is my Master or the deliciously flawed, dominant man of my dreams.  But, in private, i'm a "Sir" kinda girl.  I tried  master -- but it never came with ease.  It felt too robotic to me.  I can speak volumes with just a "no, Sir" or "yes, Sir"  just by the inflection of my voice.  I understand what you mean about "Lord" though.  Every time i see someone refer to their dominant as Lord, it makes me smile.  But, it wouldn't work in my own relationship.

Justme you did not use all of the titles. What lazyniess. Begone with you unworthy one. To be called something to each their own. I look on it as an ego trip. Each person may take the same title a different way. For instance you may say Im a Lord and another person may say that your an asshole. If a title makes you feel good then have fun with it.

I don't know...I have been doing this stuff since age 16 and never called anyone these terms except in the heat of passion when one of them would say, "Who owns you? or Who is your master?" And even then, I would pant out, You, You, You, not Sir, Master or Lord. I usually called my guys other terms of endearment, honey, babe, etc.

I have been known to scream Oh My God many times, but none of them took that to mean I was referring to them specifically. There were not THAT egotistical.

Not as much as you might think.  Alandra and I forget where we are sometimes and I rarely see anyone notice or pay any extra attention to us.  It has been our experience that other people are rather oblivious to the people around them.

LOL  Well it could be that they are too busy imagining what these three people do who are clearly in a relationship with each other that what we call him doesn't even register on their minds since they are so far down in the gutter  *eg*

Well I live in Omaha kyra, you can't to go lunch with someone of the opposite sex without someone talking about it.  It's a very small town mentality despite being over 3/4's of a million people.   I know dirt about so many people just from being a passive audience to the garbage at work it's ridiculous.

I would call the guy whatever he wanted me to, but my preference would be for something that would be for something that we wouldn't have to alter our behavior as much in public.  I'm old and forgetful .

i think that "titles" may also be a way to differ from the vanilla word we ALL live in. Most people in a D/s relationship do not have the privelege to be with OUR owners 24/7 and i know for me it helps balance out my vanilla and BDSM lifestyles. i have been a submissive for a long time and my sub name is sweet. When i am called sweetqadesh by my OWNER, Master TOUR i know my role and become even more submissive. So to call your OWNER by Master, Sir, Lord.....or whatever HE desires, HELPS HIM become the true DOM that HE can not be in the balance of life between the two most different worlds. Also...it show YOUR Master RESPECT and keeps you in check and in your place as a sub.

Well, sure there is a certain erotic mysticism in D/s titles and names. When you can call someone by their right name, say John, the poetic power of the name/title is lost. I pretty much only expect to be called Sir or whatever when in a scene or communicating in a D/s mode. In other words, I'm not always on. ExSteel...or simply John.

In private, I don't care what you call me, whatever works for you - in public I'd prefer my given name be used, or some other term of affection, baby, Tiger, etc., if you called me "sir", it might make me uncomfortable, like you're my daughter or something - again, fine in private, a little too much for public. Lord and master are right out unless it's a munch or something.

Besides, I work for a living.

She refers to me as Sir or Master most of the time. I have specific reasons for her to use both depending on where we are and what we are doing. She does also refer to me by other more common terms of endearment, and by name in certain company. "Lord" is not one that we use as it has the commanality of "Mr.", or any other common respectful form of address in the venues that I frequent. The important idea to me is that she obey the direction of doing so, not as much the specific.

Too many years in the SCA here, although I stepped away from it several years ago.  There, a "Sir" and a "Master" are supposed to be equal terms, but the reality is that many see a "Sir" as higher than a "Master" (even though the Masters would protest vehemently that this is not so).  Also, while I would call someone "Sir" all by itself, "Master" would always be followed by their name.  So calling someone "Master" alone just reminds me of that cartoon where the sniveling guy keeps saying "yes master yes master" (and geez, I'm drawing a blank now on which one that is).

In the same way, "Lord" always takes a name after it, the way "Mister" does.

So, that leaves me being a "Sir" kinda girl.

Yeah it's kind of a bitch trying to get rid of an association with a particular word, like you described.  I would just go ahead and use another word instead.  Lord is very nice, I agree.

I usually call my Dominant "Sir" or by his first name if I'm talking about something extremely serious.

I don't care for the word Master either.  I prefer Owner or Keeper.  So much hotter.
