I find it amusing that Lily snarks about doing a topic that's been done to death (BBWs) an then asks about topics which have also been done to death, things like safe calls.

This is just the life of an online forum, it's going through a very natural shift right now.

You know Lily, I did start a post on safe calls. . . .it got one (1) responce!
the BBW thread and others that continue to reappear personally I dont mind seeing the repeats, somewhere in the thread there is usually *something* a bit different to comment on, a slightly different twist to toss around if i decide to read it.

Personally i'd like to learn what core's whips and floggers have.....
(guess I ought to go ask.)

Q, wishing Iron Bear would pass the Scotch!!!

eh i lost interest in the thread when Raven, Intempting and Brightspot decided to start bickering, thankfully others decided to go back to the OP

i'd LOVE to see threads on how to take care of toys and different toys and what they are. Master keeps his locked away, doesnt give much explanation on them, just uses them. How about why those dang nipple clamps hurt MORE coming off then when they were on?

Hey I did not start anything.... I think Mod 10 had the call for this....

I still stand by what I said and think if the OP wants to change things then start posting useful threads.

As other people have said if I dont like a thread I go past it.

Is it me, or do the topics seem to be lacking in any real basis of fact lately? Does anyone actually have any experience in the scene anymore? Aside from the obvious ones, which I count about 20 at best, do any of the rest of you actually get away from the computer and actually practice your kinks with someone else?

I'm all for exploration and discussion, but it's starting to sound like the inmates have taken over the assylum lately. For example, the latest "Fat Chick" thread BBW subs.... Hasn't this thread been done to death already?

Why aren't we getting topics like "How do I set up a safe call?" or "I just got this new awsome flogger, how do I keep it clean?" or "What should I expect from my first Munch?" Instead, we are dealing with pussy size, random rants (which I suppose this qualifies as) and equally base discussions.

I just find it disheartening to see so many people be so damned flip about the 'lifestyle' (which I tend to really hate as a term overall) and treat it like it's just a place to get laid. If that's all it was, most of us wouldn't put the time and effort into it and just go the vanilla route.

ProtanginistLily

i once asked why we have threads like "Acts of God Riddle" and was told anything and everything is suitable for the "Off Topics" area. i have no toys but certainly want a Dom or Master who can care for whatever toys He plans on using on me.

Not everyone is cut out for attending munches; myself i have been unable to do much lately as i have been a bit under the weather.

That does not make me a "fake"; i'm just me.

It's the blood returning to the area that has been oxygen starved. One of the favorite ways (not perfect but good) to detect an online only is to ask, "how do you (does your sub) feel when the nipple clamps come off after a long time?"

Hint: "Sigh with relief" is a VERY informative answer

Lily,

I understand your rant. I also feel that when I start posts that deal with *issues* related to WIITWD they tend to fall by the wayside. What I have come to realise however is that sensationalism will always win. The controversial topic will always get more attention then the rational topic. Anyone in the advertising business will be able to confirm this.

Is it unfortunate? Yes. Is it annoying? Oh hell yes.

The other day, I posted a thread about Dom/me and/or Top space. A subject I feel that is rarely discussed here. I posted it one day before the “fat chick” thread du jour.

BBW Subs… I wonder thread – 66
Dom/me and/or Top space thread – 10

Is this what is really important to us?

It seems mods have been going nuts putting out flame wars here. I guess Jerry Springer culture is still alive and well and living right here on collarchat!

Seriously though, I don’t want to come down too hard because in the end, I do participate here and I’ve added my 2¢ as well. I’m far from perfect. I have however made a conscious decision to stay away from threads that I know will annoy me.

But the unfortunate (or perhaps fortunate) thing is that the boards will take the shape of what the participants want.

I think it’s up to each and everyone of us to make a conscious effort to a) determine what we really want from our collar me experience and b) contribute in such a manner that adds quality to these boards.

Thank you ProtagonistLily... I feel the same way. I would love to see more threads on subjects you mentioned as well as things like the art of communication and the art of listening.

I used to feel the same way, that the toy bag was "His" responsibility. And then I was talking to a good friend who's a Femme Domme who suggested that I start buying things that I like, especially things that are more intimate in nature. But I've also bought a fair amount of non-intimate toys as well, and have begun to build my toybag and actually bring it to events with me. Now mind, I don't have a ton of stuff, but I do have things that I'm particularly fond of.

I'm glad that my friend suggested this. It forces me to take responsibility for my own pleasures in some small way.

Certainly one of your more insulting posts girl! Amusing seeing you are what? 21 or so?.. I grew up before the large stores were anywhere near moving from the big smoke (cities to you). We valued quality not the cheap gear designed to throw away.. Different culture and different country too. Still it's about what I've learned to expect from you in any case so.... NEXT....

I seriously doubt it. Ask any Tradesman.... I spend good cash on tradesman quality tools and such They last me a life time because I look after them. Weapons are either custom made/modifies and are the best there is suitable for my purposes. But yes I also enjoy "Junk" shopping too. I can usually buy things cheap and adapt them if I so choose.

People of quality, many who do not have additional money to blow all over, still buy quality rather than trinkets.. Its the same value I place on people too. People I associate with are quality people.. Need I say more? Draw your own conclusions.

I'll second this. I recall a sign one whipmaker had on his booth at an event "There is nothing someone cannot make cheaper by taking less care and using inferior materials. People who value price above all else are this person's natural prey."

And to quote Stanley Marcus (big store owner [g]) High price is not an indication of quality but the best is never cheap."

I'll get throw away stuff at Walmart but I won't consider buying a tool that I planned to depend upon there.

So, what exactly is the problem? Are those evil Mods preventing folks from posting about cleaning floggers and washing dildoes? Darn them. Darn them to heck. Can I say that here?

Actually we encourage the posting about things related to BDSM. We try to move all posts not related to BDSM to off-topic discussion. However, in the spirit of letting everyone have a opinion as long as that opinion is in accordance to the TOS, we don't censure what topics are discussed.

We won't pull a thread simply on the basis that it is moronic, even though it is so very often tempting to do.

as someone new to the site i am finding the most unexpected information even in the posts that seem to be useless. While it's true that i have noticed a large number of posts that seem to be pointless and boring i usually glance through them anyway because there always seems to be at least one person who replies with some useful information. i am a newbie as far as accepting my submissiveness but i have already used a ton of the information here and much of it in the few play sessions i have already been involved in. So, Lily, i hope that You aren't too disenheartened by the seemingly pointless posts, or at least try to look at it the way i do...someone will usually reply with something useful that will help someone.

Nice insertion of the "girl" in there for emphasis.

25, it's very clear on my profile, nice play of the age card.

What? Knowing how to get good stuff without paying a lot is what you've learned to expect from me? I have outfits, shoes, computer cords, CDs, games, books, you name it, that I bought at thrift stores and mega-chains well over 5 years ago and are still just as useful and great today.

Now, I said MOST things. I'd never buy a corset for less than 200 unless I just wanted a pretty piece. Try not to universalize something I was careful to remain limited.

Well, as you were so quick to point out, I'm really not that old, I really don't have much liquid assets at all. For example, I have no idea when I will be able to see my boyfriend out in TX again because I have to budget for other necessities first.

My point was and remains that, for most things, you can buy excellent quality without spending insane chunks of money. My grandmother was a voracious hawkeye at thrift stores and taught me all her skills. If you want to say that's about being cheap and trinket buying, that's your choice. I consider it good money management.

Well, as one of those people you probably think sits around her computer all day and never actually practices her lifestyle, I'd have to say, damn! My ass really hurts... at least for being a fake.

Seriously though, I've noticed a lot of crappy threads. But you'll get that anywhere. There's not exactly a quality control switch. The Mods get involved when there are flame wars, but you can't harp too hard on people asking stupid questions. It's bound to happen. And I think the reason we aren't getting any questions like the ones you provided, is that many people on the message boards are beyond that point. They're mature adults, for the most part, that know how to set up a safe call, have been to their first munch, and know how to take care of their toys. If we get any questions like that, I'll smile and be happy to answer them.

Anyway, like you said, if most of us just wanted laid, we wouldn't put the effort into it. So please, don't pass judgement on us.

Yes, John, I agree. Quality is important. However, my husband and I aren't exactly rich. In fact, we have exactly enough money to make ends meet. That's all. We're young, recently married, and doing the best we can with improvisational Walmart toys. They may not be high in the quality department, but I love every minute of using them. My husband and I may not have enough money to furnish a dungeon, or buy expensive fetish outfits, but we have a good time with each other in any way we can. It doesn't make us any less active in the lifestyle. He and I will have to work our way up to quality, I guess.
