If going with a more purer science fiction then I'd go with The Omega Man or the original Planet of The Apes.

James Cameron's "Aliens".

Raechard -> RE: Best science fiction movie of all time (1/27/2008 3:50:47 PM)

Don't you mean Aliens vs Predator on the Titanic?

How about The Blob?!  [8D]

It was a toss between Star Wars & Terminator, but I chose Terminator since it had my adrenaline going.

How to ruin a great franchise.

Raechard -> RE: Best science fiction movie of all time (1/27/2008 4:23:09 PM)

Come on I was thinking either the aliens or the predator could be happily playing in the band as the ship sunk and then Rose could effectively kill Jack again by refusing to get in the lifeboat when told to do so.

Why the "Andromeda Strain?" Well, it's because the movie is actually about the scientific method. As such, it's what I consider a science fiction film. They find an alien life form, the isolate it, and begin to systematically examine it. The theme of the film could probably be said to be: "The best laid plans..."

I love Bradbury as much as anyone. (The guy is from near my hometown in Illinois) And I've met Mr. Bradbury a couple of times. But I still think his brand of fiction is soft science fiction, while Andromeda Strain is an example of HARD science fiction.

Hmmm. Ok.

I have always seen Andromeda Strain; kind of opposite of how you do. More of a...I guess a thriller is how I would probably classify it...a thriller with science fiction thrown in.

Yes he was. In the Omega man, he played a character who's blood held antibodies aginst a world wide virus that turned people into zombies.

Ah, okay [8D]

And it had a young Steve McQueen.......

The best thing about the Andromeda Strain is where they have to get decontaminated so they strip naked and this machine sugar coats the naked people. The split screen parts are rather annoying.[8|]

The Thing starred Kurt Russell and Wilford Brimley. It was a John carpenter movie.

And he was in Soylent Green, I think. I never thought of Chuck as a science fiction guy..... [:D]

Hi

The Matrix is my favorite movie so i voted that. But as i am a major science fiction slut choosing a favorite movie is very hard. i am also very fond of the movie Stealth. The one whit the AI fighter plane.

i wish you all well

sappatoti -> RE: Best science fiction movie of all time (1/27/2008 5:27:55 PM)

Blade Runner.

There's definitely something that clicks with me every time I see that film. While the other movies on the list that I have seen are highly entertaining or thought-provoking, for me Blade Runner sends chills through my psyche as it's not that far from reality in many ways.

KatyLied -> RE: Best science fiction movie of all time (1/27/2008 5:35:56 PM)

I'm not going to read through 4 pages to see if this movie was mentioned.
It was probably from the 60's.  A group of doctors/scientists were rendered microscopic in order to be injected into a man and operate on his brain.  They had to fight off his body's defenses as it attacked them.  Anyone know the name of that movie?  The special effects, by today's standards would be lame, but I remember it being a cool movie.

Level -> RE: Best science fiction movie of all time (1/27/2008 5:37:21 PM)

Fantastic Voyage??
