I really really get into this kind of movie.  I have talked about it here before.  It does not even have to be overly gory, even Hard Candy I found to be exciting in a sadistic sort of way.  Hostel 2 was so intense for Me, I went to see it with a girlfriend opening night.  In the beginning, there is a bidding scene, where these men are trying to buy their victims.  I was so taken in by the excitment of that, that I almost shouted out loud, LOL.  Then there is a scene where one girl is hanging upside down, and screaming her face off.  The whole crowd was quiet, and My friend was welting up in tears.  I tried so hard, but could no longer hold it in, and just started laughing My head off.  My friend was so pissed off, she told Me that was the last time she would see anything like that out in public with Me.  I could not help it, that kind of thing just really does it for Me.  Hannibal Rising was another one.  He was so sadistic and cold, that I was rather turned on watching it.  I have yet to see Captivity, but its on My list.  And Untraceable I have never heard of, but will be looking it up now.  If a movie is unrealistic and could never happen, I then lose interest in it.  If it is 100% impossible, then there is no way I am going to be as interested.  If it was a true story, even if its a book about torture, like true crime, that increases its interest to Me.

Yes, that one was good too.

schoenekitty -> RE: Torture Porn (1/27/2008 1:01:20 AM)

I am so not a fan of torture porn. I am always disturbed not only by the gore but also by the cruelty of the killers. Unfortunately my master is a fan of turture porn- I think he really liked Captivity (but it's a hot girl who's been abducted and help captive so that's not very hard to understand- and his fascination with these movies is how I ended up- my head covered with my sweater, at the movies watching Hostel 2... I think next time he can take a friend, not his wussy pants slave.

greyangelus -> RE: Torture Porn (1/27/2008 1:23:59 AM)

Meh, I'm kinda of split here.  I liked Saw and Saw III quite a bit (still trying to catch Saw II on the DVR, its hard to find from some reason).  The psychogical edge to it was quite good and admitly, the devices are tres nice as well. The Saw movies moreover, have a moral point to them.  The Hostel series I could do without though, and I highly doubt I'll watch any sequels.  I find em pretty much the essence of dehumanizing as anything else could be (the exact opposite of saw, which is supposed to allow the people involved to live and apprecaite thier life).

pompeii -> RE: Torture Porn (1/27/2008 1:39:37 AM)

I never understood why films of people being murdered were "R" rated while films of people making love were "X" rated.
It should be the other way around.

How must an actor stay in that frame of mind or snap back into it so readily?  Ahh, it would be *so* interesting if actors in those situations had the femdom version of a "fluffer"....(grin).  Not sure if anyone gets what I am saying. (heh)

I had to Google "fluffer", but I get  it now. [;)]

Justme696 -> RE: Torture Porn (1/27/2008 2:44:54 AM)

I saw most of the films mentioned in the Wiki link above...and mmmm "Last house on the left" is a rape/revenge movie...I don't see the "porn" part in it.
Ichi the killer for example (Japanese horror/jakuza movie)....has a guy hanging on hooks (ok I can see bdsm) then they throw hot oil over him (the porn part?)  and his skin shreds off (wtf!!! I didn't get excited)
I found it myself pretty discusting. Most horror movies ( I watch 5 a week, I am a fan) just don't focus on stories anymore just show gore. Pretty boring in general (for me.)
Well people always put certain movies in boxes, torture porn is not really fitting to the movies mentioned there..but ok.

If you like bdsm in movies..I would look more in the porn section at the bdsm. I know in germany there are enough "torture" kind of movies made.

This would fit more, to me to the lable;

LordMarkus -> RE: Torture Porn (1/27/2008 3:02:34 AM)

Well, I don't like the gore and I think the terror movies had changed the art possibilities for the visual effects. I saw the 30 days of night movie some hours ago and I don't really like it, I mention it because it have many gore and explicit scenes. I don't find stimulating that kind of scenes, for acheive that I need three elements: a naked female body, a torture situation and an aesthetic way to show it.

Two examples can be the scenes of some movies I saw years ago, sorry but I don't remember the titles. The first one was mexican and there was an scene with electrical torture on a young lady, the scene do not show the character in the moment of the pain, the girl appears some moments previous to the torture and after that you only see a dark wall, then you see the shadow of the contortioned girl produced by electrical sparks and of course there was screams. That was a little stimulating for me. The other movie was from Chile, about the secret police tortures under the military dictatorship, there was a scene with a long gallery with little cubicles with naked, chained and kneeling prisioners, two cops walk looking for one of them and stops in front of a head down girl covered with her hair, they lift the face and you see the naked girl with a completly lost look and a inexpressive face, the police leave the girl and the head falls hanging over her chest. That was stimulating too.

In the examples there was an intention of show something as terrble as a -non consensual- torture in an artistic way: the shadows game in the first scene and the actress work in the second provide the art of the scenes, and was stimulating for me. Talking about the visual element, the torture porn or the "gorn" as the wikipedia article name it, is not stimulating in any way for me, personaly I think is far away from something aesthetic, but I understand that kind of movies manage his own aesthetical way. I don't want to discuss with gore fans anyway.

I love horrors, always have, Poor Sir struggled through the Saw movies with me but I cant get him to watch Hostel or Wolf Creek, he cant handle gore.

Then having said that it isnt a sexual thing at all, and I dont enjoy seeing people being killed I just enjoy being scared although I gotta say these days supernatural stuff works far better for me

That's the thing that bugs me most about "torture porn"... they can show people doing these "terrible" things to each other, on a major mainstream movie release, and it's just fine and dandy because they kill the victim at the end. If they gave the victim an orgasm instead, it would be the end of the friggin world, commercially speaking. Them's some screwed up values!

i can get some enjoyment out of these kinds of movies, if they're done well. The problem is that i like to see more focus on the interplay between captor and victim, rather than the gore. i'm kinda squeamish about seeing innards, for some dumb reason.

i really need to see the Saw movies... i love infernal devices. That bear trap head gear looks hot [:)] i thought Hostel 2 had one good scene (the Elizabeth Bathory-inspired one), but the rest of the movie was shit. The Cell had some good moments, liked the Lethal Weapon electro scene...Can't come up with any other good ones at the moment. There are a few i've thought about seeing, but i figure they'll end up being a disappointment

ChainedExistence -> RE: Torture Porn (1/27/2008 5:37:38 AM)

I hate hate hate horror/slasher films...I don't find them erotic at all...more like fodder for months of nightmares and making me jump at every sound for months. What makes BDSM erotic for me is the consent..I WANT what Master does to me..(well, sometimes it's a love /hate thing, but I still get off on the dynamic), but the nonconsensuality of the films is what keeps me from enjoying them. Not to say that I don't like a good scare. I love suspenseful movies, but the torture and more specifically, the gore is just more than I can handle.

Evility -> RE: Torture Porn (1/27/2008 6:10:29 AM)

It's Hollywood. Nuff said. Hollywood does not make porn, they make movies. Even the stuff that passes for bdsm/torture porn in the porn industry is pretty pale. The smaller online entities that attempt this (Insex, Hardtied, Hogtied, etc.) are much better at it.

BlackPhx -> RE: Torture Porn (1/27/2008 6:12:53 AM)

I suspect I am also in the minority here. I love horror movies and gore fests, for what they are, an interesting exercise in special effects and psychology. Master hates them and only watches a rare one on DVD with me like Captivity. Bondage in movies and splatter films have been around for a long time and some have plot, some don't, just like comdies, drama's and love stories. Heck back when films were black, white and silent, BDSM reared it's head on the silver screen with the damsel in distressed tied to the railroad tracks, menaced in the abandoned shack or the hero tied and headed for the saw blade at the mill. They have gotten more gory over the years, but, oddly enough a lot of that is demand by the "vanilla" public. The same public buying Grand Theft Auto (ad nauseum) and Halo, etc.

Would I call them torture porn? Heck no. I reserve those terms for movies available at places like Brutalmaster.com, Torturegalaxy.com and Insex.com. The fare that is available at your local movie theater is splashy and intriguing, but ultimately fake. At the end of the day the actors wash up, go home and have a nice dinner. Reality can be much, much harsher.

Refer to  books Like Beyond Cruel or Burned Alive, or to serial killers like Jerry Brudos, Ed Gein or Albert Fish for reality that far outstrips anything the movies cast before us. The traps in the movies are fascinating, the glimpses we get into the psychology (and even in a poorly plotted movies those glimpses are there if only of the writer's mind and the directors ) intriguing at the lwseast, ad we are safely tucked away behind our popcorn and soda from the reality that such monsters DO stalk the earth and populate our news casts and news papers, nearly daily from child abuse to murder to acts of war. Thanks to my parents, and to the person that murdered my youngest child I have a deep interest in trying to figure out what makes some people tick. I won't find answers to that in Torture/Horror films and I don't look for them there. I do watch and wonder for movies like Saw just how far I would go to escape. I like the thrills of knowing the person shouldn't go in the basement, or knock on the door of that really nasty looking house. I also like Natural Disaster films, even though I have lived through the realities at different times, of tornados, hurricanes and blizzards.

Hmm maybe I am just weird. Master thinks so at times. But yanno, he was real proud that someone paid me to write them a custom torture porn story and brags about it.

poenkitten (twisted, sick and in love with movies like Seven, Saw 1, Hostel)

RoughFN -> RE: Torture Porn (1/27/2008 6:21:33 AM)

I'm a huge horror fan. Ironically, it really did start back when I was a frustrated high school kid with no girlfriend. Horror (at the time) pretty consistently delivered some gratuitous nudity. The rest of the violence wasn't turning me on, but the copious boobs sure did. Sorority House Massacre II is a great flick when you're 14.

Since then my tastes have evolved towards the scary since I can get my nudity elsewhere (and in person!). Gore sometimes does and sometimes doesn't work for me. If it's appropriate for the film, then fine. If it's a movie that's just nothing but buckets of blood to be SHOCKING, then it just doesn't work.

The Saw films are great. They're rough and violent and brutal, but it works in with the film perfectly. Those movies actually give me ideas about things to do in scene or equipment to build (toned down so as not to actually maim or kill, of course). But that's the extent of my erotic connection to horror these days.

Other movies, like Hostel are just useless. That movie was 40 minutes of softcore porn followed by 40 minutes of disconnected violence. No plot. No characters to care about. Just SHOCKING. Bah. Waste of film.

Leatherist -> RE: Torture Porn (1/27/2008 7:14:20 AM)

I enjoy the cat and mouse sorts. Where the victim gets played with and mind fucked for a while before being taken and used.

softness -> RE: Torture Porn (1/27/2008 7:27:44 AM)

the ancient Greeks (or Athenians at least) called it "catharsis" a piece of art which creates an outpouring of pity (for the victim) .. and fear (that it could happen to you) .. they applied the idea mostly to Tragedy play. The believed it was important for the health of the human soul to be clensed in this way from time to time. They also said that death was the greatest aphrodisiac, in witnessing death human nature is to prove beyond doubt theat we are alive ... and sex is the truest expression of our life and vitality.

I adore being frightened and get a strange kick from living vicariously through a harrowing ordeal. I do however have to be very careful, there are some places i just will not go (eg the Hostel films) because anything that extreme that features a situation I have been in disturbs medeeply and long term. For example I watched Wolf Creek and Paradise Lost, both films about young people out travelling being kidnapped and brutally murdered in gory grapphic detail by people they trusted. Now i go travelling a lot (Eurpoe, Asia, Africa, India ... South America next year hopefull) and so frequently put my trust in people to help me stay safe when I am vulnerable .... those two films have single-handedly ended my thing for travelling alone (which i always have done up until now).

Imagine if watching Hostel erased my desire to spend time ith bad Men .. who want to tie me up and very bad things to me

pfffffft horror movies ruined my holidays ... dont want them ruining my weekends too!

undefined -> RE: Torture Porn (1/27/2008 7:45:28 AM)

I am a huge horror movie fan and I would watch ever slasher/thriller/horror/suspense flick to grace local screens if I could. I'm looking forward to seeing Untraceable with Sire and Tara. I think of myself on a sort of quest these days. I've watched so many scary movies that they don't scare me anymore, which sucks because I am a fear junkie. I'm constantly looking for a movie that'll scare the crap out of me.

I have seen a lot of graphic torture scenes in a lot of movies. They don't scare me like I want to be scared though. Rather I'm kind of freaked out when I find myself turned on by it. I don't want a Saw-esque scene actually done to me, but it really gets me going. I don't want a blowtorch to the face a la Hostel, but watching it gets me hot. And that really disturbs me.

There's a point where those movie torture scenes are still a possibility for me, and that point is more in the V for Vendetta range and stops WAY before removing toes or scalps. I can't explain why that stuff turns me on, but it does. Maybe I'm just a lot sicker than I've discovered in my short year and a half in this life.

Don't forget Herman Mudgett, aka Dr. H. H. Holmes of the "Chicago Torture Castle"! Fascinating, fascinating stuff.
