I do watch those kinds of movies from time to time though my Friday horror movie buddy and I tend to watch a wide range of horror.

I never get turned on by it.

I think that relates to what I find arousing -- authority.

I don't believe that one can get authority by torturing someone. You may make do as you say for a certain period of time for as long as you torture or threaten but they do not have any respect for you and thus cannot truly recognize your authority in my opinion.

Perhaps I'm too intellectual but it does really matter to me.

Now the hero (male or female) who rescues a person from torture and in turn obeyed or adored.... imagining I am that hero turns me on.

You'd probably love the August Underground series.. I'm in no way a wuss but I could only stomach 10 mins until I couldn't take it anymore.. I literally felt sick and violated... Couldn't sit through Sado either...
I loved both Hostel movies and I hear another one is in the works!

Personally, I have difficulty watching movies in this genre. Having worked with patients who do these things tends to make it an exercise in: "Oh shit, who is going to try and recreate this?" Yes there are Silence of the Lamb predators out there...I've met two who are in that caliber of mayhem. Or try talking to  neccrophiliacs...and asking them do you fuck then kill...kill while fucking...or kill first then fuck? There really are 3 distinct groups.  There are far too many "natural born killers" just a crossed boundary away from us all. A thrilling taboo act opens the door...as we know, it is another matter entirely to close it again.

i am a total Saw fanatic, and alot of the other movies of that type. Though i will say, the wiki list shows some titles that had so much promised but that ultimately fell sooooo short in delivery....also, they dont have Strangeland on the list....yeah it holds back in some ways but in other ways DAMN

i think that enjoyment of modern torture-horror movies as a "normal" Sadist or masochist depends on how well you can compartmentalize... If you can view it as Here's a hot scene/Here's some plot crap/Ooh, look, another hot scene! i don't take movies very seriously, so i find it easy to break out the things i'm interested in and enjoy them on their own.

Speaking of which... has anyone seen the flick "Singapore Sling"? Sounds like it has potential, but i hate subtitles...

I don't think restraints in movies are ever done up tightly enough so as to be inescapable... it's a health and safety hazard... like if the set caught fire, or the actor had a panic attack, or some other sort of fit or seizure. Most bondage in movies looks pretty flimsy, anyway, but even the stuff that looks good and tight probably isn't. Sad fact. :(
