Status: offline 		Have you ever pondered the serious nature of being 'property" Every time that I have the time to sign on I always take the time to read the first profile that comes up on the list; thus this post!

I am seeing more and more descriptions by submissives that describe themselves as property of_____. Does the mindset of being property truely hit with a high level of conscienceness or it it a growing fashion on the path be refer to the relationship as property?

Status: offline 		PErsonally I think there is always a mixture to people beeing really property...and those who like to play property.
IF they are happy with the role then it is ok. BDSM is becomming mainstream I guess..lol

Status: offline 		i think there is sort of a "fad" happening....as there always is in BDSM (in any aspect of life). when i actually look at submissive's profiles, i notice the same trend. but it happens on the flip side with Dominant's profiles too: "Looking for a slave to be property..." "So and so is my property", etc, etc. But calling yourself, or someone else, property has a completely different meaning to me, i guess.

i've been in a contractual Master/slave relationship before and i was, quite literally, His property and happily so. There was nothing i could do to myself without His permission, from cutting my hair (even just a trim) to getting tattoos, masturbating to having sex. i had to have His permission - but more then that i WANTED His permission. i felt Owned by Him completely, totally and in every sense of the word, and i had no desire whatsoever to suffer His wrath by screwing with His things.

Property to me, moves to a realm of submission even beyond slavery. i don't know that i can describe it very well as it really is a personal feeling and way of thinking, but i know that my personal submission has many different levels. i can submit to many, be a slave to very few, and be property only rarely. i love to submit, am happier when i can be a slave, and am in heaven when i'm property. i don't know that i'm making much sense, though.

Status: offline 		i am so happy and content being His property. i wouldn't have it any other way. He is taking his time to train me and to nuture me, so i fell into it very easily.
i have to say though. i don't care what the title is for me. i am just thrilled to be his and that he chose me.

Status: offline 		From what one sub described to me is that she enjoyed the "feeling" of belonging to someone and him belonging to her. In her mind property meant the same as monogamy, which as we know does not always go hand in hand. But it seems (from what she said) that many subs have this view of being property, its a way of cementing two people together without marriage.
This is certainly not my view but then again I'm Dominant, property to me is something that I own and take care of, I don't necessarily have to love it, although love is important to me in a relationship.

Status: offline 		I find that the majority of the people on this site tend toward "playing" at being property. It takes a special personality for a woman (or anyone for that matter) to be truly "property" as viewed by Goreans in particular. To be wholly owned and to be able to submit instantly, wholeheartedly and unquestioningly to the Master's needs and wants in the manner of "property" is indeed a rare and cherished attribute of a slave (property).

This is not to deprive those on this site (and there are quite a few, who are in fact "property" and fully live that life style with all its difficulties and trials), the credit due to them for their ability to "be" and to "live" in that manner is enormous. To those who indeed ARE property, my wholehearted congratulations. I just think that most of the slaves/property on here have a mental reservation about the depth of that committment however small that reservation.

Most slaves on this site truly want to be property and try their best to be such. Most will willingly fullfill nearly all of their master's wishes quickly and happily. However we now enter the area of interpretation, if we consider the strict interpretation of property as totally and completely owned... completely without rights... full TPE... then I have to ask you how many people do you know who would unquestioningly and unhesitantly fulfill a request to put themselves in danger... serve others sexually... allow themselves to be subjected to pain and suffering... permanently marked or damaged... all without questioning and hesitating at fulfilling such a command?

I do feel that most "property" would hesitate in one special area... that where an UM would be involved in danger or degradation of any sort. I feel that this is a special area because I think its built into our genetic structure of us to protect our progeny regardless of our other feelings and committments.

Status: offline 		You're right. It also does cement us together. One day we will be married, but i don't believe that marriage can make us anymore bounded together than we are now. Still it's what we both want eventually.

You bring up a great point, but i think that's where the whole "trust" issue comes into play. You have to be able to trust your Dominant and know that he (or she) is never going to command you to do anything that would put you in any kind of 'real' danger. If you don't have that kind of trust, there's no way you can be fully committed to the level of submission that being property requires.

Status: offline 		I consider myself Mistress's property because I turn over all decision making privileges to Her.  She considers me "self-sufficient" property because I don't need to be micromanaged.  She allows me to have lots of free reign on my life.  While I do love to be under Her control to the level of asking permission to do nearly everything, that's not how She chooses to bestow Her authority over me.

Porcelain26 said it well:  being property moves to a realm even beyond slavery. 

I can submit to a few, but I can and will be the slave and property to only the chosen one.  My submission and property mindset is reserved for the one strong enough to take it.  Only then, will I give it freely.  Considering myself property is along that same line as considering myself a slave...it's reserved for only that special dominant.  When I'm property, I'm at my happiest.

Status: offline 		I enjoy the feeling of 'belonging' to someone, I don't like the context of property. To me the distinction between a piece of furniture, and myself should be obvious. 'Property' is simply not the kind of relationship dynamic I look for.

Status: offline 		There are degrees of property,a dog is property,a truck is property but in my mind eye a female as property is much much more and like someone said as a comitted slave in it for the long haul it more meaninful perhaps then marriage especilly since the words love honor and OBEY was tinkered with... ,WE all were expected to marry produce children thats a given  but a Master/slave relationship produces much more and if done properly its a thing of beauty...

Status: offline 		Since any attempt to define what exactly is the qualification of being property will most likely result in a ten page flame war ending with nihilism, it's hard to answer that question.

Edited to Add : I tend to go with SimplyMichael's standard. Your only property if your Owner can cut out a kidney for a transplant or dinner. Everyone else is just playing at it.

Status: offline 		Just wondering: how do you conceive of the difference between being a slave and being property?  To me, the definition of "slave" is something like "a human being who is the property of another."

Status: offline 		I believe for the majority of people desiring the position of property, they think  that is what is expected of them. Those who truly believe themselves proerty again are usually just using a label. We all know the raging debates about labels.
For me, I consider both my boys property becasue that is how they like being considered. Angel enjoys the feeling of being owned, but the label of his being property means nothing to either of us as far as how he is to be treated. The same with Fox. Fox considers himself property, and is as extension of me. It hasnt changed how he s treated or viewed, but the feel of being owned and claimed excites him and makes him feel whole.
For some, there is the feelings. For others, its like making the difference between annoucing someone as your boyfriend or your Financee. Its semantics.
