It was very telling when Knucklehead said he wants to make the tax cuts permanent. All the Republicans stood up and clapped while the Democrats just sat there like Cheshire cats with embarrassed grins on their faces! lol
Democrats think all that *Taxpayer money* should be in the hands of the government instead evidently.

The problem with the tax cuts Bush wants to make is they benefit the same big corporations that outsource jobs to foreign countries. Hard to say why the democrats just sat there grinning, but I do know privatization doesn't help the American people, it helps big corporations. If our government was anything like it is in Canada, I'd be glad to give them my tax dollars. The way it is now, Americans get screwed either way.

Defiant, that's true but you have to understand that Bush is not a "Republican", he's just a mouthpiece for big business.
Also, "the govt" doesn't have any money! Not one cent!
That's all "Taxpayer Dollars" that they're spending. That money belongs to us!

MzMia -> RE: State of the Union Address (1/28/2008 7:32:42 PM)

I had to watch tonight, he may go down in history as the worse
President ever.

Popeye you hit the nail on the head, Bush has NEVER been a Republican,
he does not listen to his Republican constituency.

He only cares about Big Business and he has always only cared about big business.

He does not care about Republicans, Democrats, the economy, the recession, the middle
class or anyone else!
I thank GOD I never voted for him.

You hit the nail on the head.
Most of them are all the same these days, that is why I am an Independent Moderate.

Bush Obama, Clinton.....does not make much difference.
IF the Democrats dare think they can raise taxes?
Or IF anyone dares to raise taxes, I think people will riot.

The Middle Class and Lower Middle Class has been sold out down the damn river.

Did he mention we are smack dab in a recession?????

Mia, I am an independent moderate as well. Who do you think will get the nominations for each party and who do you think will ultimately win the  presidential election?

MzMia -> RE: State of the Union Address (1/28/2008 7:39:36 PM)

brainiacsub, great question.
I am so worried about the economy and the sinking ship we are now in,
it is hard for me to think that far.

I have voted in every major and minor election since I was 18, and I am so
fed up, I thought about not voting.

I really have no idea brainiacsub, I am wondering if we might be headed for a depression.

Oh Hell, I will vote for Obama.

defiantbadgirl -> RE: State of the Union Address (1/28/2008 7:40:49 PM)

Popeye, republican presidents have a long history of being for big business, not just the second Bush. As for democrats, there are a couple of things Clinton did that I didn't like. Signing NAFTA was one and Welfare Reform was another. While it's true there were many deadbeats living off taxpayer dollars indefinitely, I don't think full time college students should have been counted as deadbeats. I'm sure plummers earn a good living, but not everyone can be a plummer. By denying college students, it made it easier for foreigners that are more highly educated (education is paid for in their countries) to relocate here and take American jobs.

faerytattoodgirl -> RE: State of the Union Address (1/28/2008 7:41:39 PM)

vote for bush! amheiser bush!  (the beer)

MzMia -> RE: State of the Union Address (1/28/2008 7:43:20 PM)

Great points DFB, many will be sorry that welfare has been cut, soon.

Some of the ones that thought it was nice to see it cut, when they lose their
jobs and their homes, may damn think about welfare in a different light.

That's why Obama will lose if he's nominated.
You can't go against 90% of the American People and try to push "amnesty" for illegal aliens and expect to win.

Hi popeye... below is what Obama says... I see nothing about amnesty... His ideas are good... I believe and the way to go... especially penalties for employers who hire undocumented immigrants

The Problem
Undocumented population is exploding: The number of undocumented immigrants in the country has increased more than 40 percent since 2000. Every year, more than a half-million people come illegally or illegally overstay their visas.
Immigration bureaucracy is broken: The immigration bureaucracy is broken and overwhelmed, forcing legal immigrants to wait years for applications.
Immigration raids are ineffective: Despite a sevenfold increase in recent years, immigration raids only netted 3,600 arrests in 2006 and have placed all the burdens of a broken system onto immigrant families.
Barack Obama's Plan
Create Secure Borders
Obama wants to preserve the integrity of our borders. He supports additional personnel, infrastructure and technology on the border and at our ports of entry.
Improve Our Immigration System
Obama believes we must fix the dysfunctional immigration bureaucracy and increase the number of legal immigrants to keep families together and meet the demand for jobs that employers cannot fill.
Remove Incentives to Enter Illegally
Obama will remove incentives to enter the country illegally by cracking down on employers who hire undocumented immigrants.
Bring People Out of the Shadows
Obama supports a system that allows undocumented immigrants who are in good standing to pay a fine, learn English, and go to the back of the line for the opportunity to become citizens.
Work with Mexico
Obama believes we need to do more to promote economic development in Mexico to decrease illegal immigration.
Barack Obama's Record
  • Crack Down on Employers: Obama championed a proposal to create a system so employers can verify that their employees are legally eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Fix the Bureaucracy: Obama joined Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) to introduce the Citizenship Promotion Act to ensure that immigration application fees are both reasonable and fair. Obama also introduced legislation that passed the Senate to improve the speed and accuracy of FBI background checks.
  • Respect Families: Obama introduced amendments to put greater emphasis on keeping immigrant

Now, now...it's not that bad. Keep your chin up there woman! Some people are suffering more than others right now, certainly, but we are no where near a depression. I am not even convinced we are in a recession. The ship is not sinking, it's listing slightly.

MzMia -> RE: State of the Union Address (1/28/2008 7:52:01 PM)

OBAMA has my vote!!!!!

I have not been reading the papers much, thank you kdsub!!!!

Even Popeye will soon love Obama!!!

I am standing on what I feel, I don't depend on government reports only to inform me.

I FEEL we are in a recession, quickly spiraling downwards towards a deepening serious
recession, and my mind is made up.

We can certainly agree, to disagree here.
When things get much worse, drop me a line.

I didn't get the last part of the final "Respect Families" thing.
ButI will respectfully disagree here.  Bringing them out of the shadows, having then pay a fine and teaching them English is tantamount to amnesty in My book.
I am all for securing the borders and fining the hell out of the emplioyers who have hired them.  But I am not for allowing, once again, to let them all stay, if they are in "good standing".  By the way, I'd love to have a definition of "in good standing". They need to start over the right way.
After that, I have no problem with a  reasonable "guest worker program".
Basically, what I see is a stance that we need to close the gates now, but we also have to play nice with the millions who are already here.  And, frankly, there is nothing new about taking that half-baked side of the debate.   I can't go with it.
If you could complete the "Respect Families" thing, I would appreciate it.

Best stand-up comedy act I've seen in a long time [:D] .

PS: the President doesn't even know that the correct word is nuclear, not nucular. He repeated this shameful barbarism about three times [:D] .

sadly, I agree with you.
If our country was not going down hill, I would laugh more.

~FR~

I was particulary interested in GW's stance on "earmarks".  I will watch that one with great interest.
Methinks he is trying to prove that he is a fiscal conservative but is a day late and a dollar short.
Easy to grandstand when he has only 357 days left.   Then again, if he actually does this, it sure makes it tough on the next one in line.  How do you undo that without pissing off the public?  [;)]
hmmmmmmmmmm...

PrizedPosession -> RE: State of the Union Address (1/28/2008 8:16:35 PM)

i like how Nancy Pelosi was reading through it..i only caught a bit of it at work but his speech writers need to give him smaller words because he always looks confused...it's a wonderment how he won twice [sm=m23.gif]
finally i get to vote this year and cancel out my moms vote [:D]

FangsNfeet -> RE: State of the Union Address (1/28/2008 8:17:53 PM)

Damn, seven years and George Bush is just now getting this Perment Tax Relief thing rolling?

MissSCD -> RE: State of the Union Address (1/28/2008 8:19:17 PM)

That just goes to show you that Bush is a stingy old Bastard.

kittinSol -> RE: State of the Union Address (1/28/2008 8:19:47 PM)

I thought Pelosi was beautifully poised - I liked how she diverted her gaze to the sides when she didn't agree with Baby Bush's bullshit.

Which was frequently.
