wow how long is this thread going to last...it keeps reapearing out of the blue...

~meticulous~

Fast reply:  I entered my first dominant-role relationship at 18, and was ushered into my dominance by an older submissive woman.  Natural dominance is often recognized early by more experienced submissives, and there's nothing at all bad about a young dominant cutting his/her teeth on a submissive who has more experience.  It helps you to overcome your inhibitions when you can work with someone who honestly knows where their limits are, and can help you loosen up.

That said, there are also peer-to-peer dominant/sub relationships between younger people.  D/S relationships between people the same age are ok at 30, I see no reason they would not be just as ok at 20.

Just my two pence.

lytehaze -> RE: How can a 21 year old possibly be a Master? (3/4/2008 4:40:37 PM)

I've finally finished reading this whole thread… whew.
To me the main dilemmas with the question posed in the OP seem to be:
1. Are youth and maturity mutually exclusive?
2. If there is a preparatory age for establishing M/s relationships, what is a Dom to do in the interim while waiting for his appointed birthday? If a Dom isn't allowed to participate in youth then from where is he gaining this crucial life/relationship experience he’s supposed to draw upon in maturity?
3. What happened to personal preference: meaning perhaps you don’t like younger Masters but that does not negate their existence or right to search or label themselves as such.
4. Does the age prerequisite apply across the board i.e. gender: Dommes of young age and orientation: subs of young age?
5.  The always debatable: what is a "Master"?
6. What about youth who seek youth. Not all younger subs want a 50 year old Master. Should they not have a contemporary consort to grow/explore with?
7. The ever popular: why does anyone care what someone calls themselves or has their sub call them?
Well at least those are the questions I considered, reading the thread.

masterfixer -> RE: How can a 21 year old possibly be a Master? (3/4/2008 8:13:53 PM)

I am a master not becuse of my age, I am what i am through experience and confidence. I was born mature in some aspects of my life and child in others, only to catch up with the rest of me in my latter life.

I find it hard to understand how one so young could have the understanding, wisdom and life experiance which is needed to be a Master.

From what age do you take them serious?

Thanks for your answers.

who cares?

if you can do your thing, great. they'll come back for more. if you can't, they'll find it elsewhere.

I'm 23, there are things I can do and things that are impractical for me to try to do as a large portion of my attention has to be directed elsewhere for a few more years.as far as being a 'master', again, who cares. I would feel cheesy if someone went around calling me master. I don't need that validation and no matter how you say it, to me, it always sounds affected.

in my limited experience, I think this is how these things work (but again, I am young and know next to nothing...): you have your idea of what dominance is and how you want to submit to it. cursory glances at people's profiles are more than enough to tell you that the definitions of dominance and submission are wholly subjective. some people just want a d/s sex life and everything else to be vanilla (or the roles reversed in public life). some want a 24/7 live-in relationship. some like the superficial rush of the play. others view it as a means of growth through discipline and trust  where both parties mature. what is your definition of dominance and submission? perhaps it is something that a 21 year old could easily give you, perhaps it is not.

but if you need a number, I would guess...42.

Odd, that's the answer to everything else too! Heh.

I'm sure it's been said, but an 18 year old female can look up into the eyes of a 21 year old male and find her master. Is he really a (capitalized) "Master"? Depends on what that means. But it's nothing to worry about. The debate will be still be going on when you're long past 42.

i do not know if age plays a role in the aspect of being dominant or not, i have never been with a younger Dom... though i am sure there are some competent to be dominant, i prefer older Doms... as they seem more mature and comfortable within themselves.

so, i suppose i will never know! ;)

Does their music say anything about who they were in their personal lives? Nope

This is a Bit like asking how can a 21 year old possibly be a submissive or slave.
Finding it hard that they too have enough understanding, wisdom and life
experience to properly serve a Dom/Master.

Personally attitude, willingness, mindset goes a long long way.
Besides how much experience does one truely need to do anything?

What's import is that both parties involved have the same mindset, and have enough
in common to make it happen.

Besides many Doms have used their own parents as models and have learned things
from the households they were raised in.  So the Knowledge and experiences their
own parents have been instilled in them.   Stories and things their parents and family
has taught or passed along.   They have had 21 years to learn something after all.
There are some young people that are very mature.

On the flip side there are some 30 and 40 year olds that behave and act more like
14 year olds, who have not really learned much in life.

Darnit.

That was going to be my super clever question.

But, I suppose I could ask the question of: How do I take someone seriously who uses colored font?

wolffeathers -> RE: How can a 21 year old possibly be a Master? (3/5/2008 4:55:51 PM)

Here's a responce

I am a Master because my slave calls me Master.  No other reason.  Not because I say I'm a Master, or that others say I'm a Master.

I'm 25, got into this Lifestyle 4 years ago, so I was 21.  In that time, I've had people double my age call me Master for one reason or another.

How can an 18-year-old possibly be a slave?

It is not for people to define themselves.  We each stand or fall by the definitions that other place upon us.

DeferentialBaby -> RE: How can a 21 year old possibly be a Master? (3/6/2008 4:20:36 AM)

Dominants are rare, but age isn't what makes them. I knew one once who was 19 years old.  A great many other submissives scoffed and said he could not be that, but none of them had my length and breadth of experience with the real McCoy.  My master also recognized him.

In contrast, I've encountered hundreds of men in their 40s to 60s whom I'm absolutely convinced are not at all dominant (just confused and claiming it for themselves).

If you know what dominance smells and tastes like and if you are honest, you don't deny it just because the wrapper it's in doesn't resemble what you'd expect. The middle-eastern poet Rumi is known for saying, "Take what is in my hand, do not look at my face." That's how you have to be when looking for dominance.  It's sad that most such proferred hands are totally empty.
