Tee hee the visual of that has put a smile on my face [;)] [:D]  Can we add some brandy alexanders to that list?  The ones my mother-in-law makes are awesome [8D]

EvilGenie -> RE: Paying To Be Handicapped (2/10/2008 7:12:01 PM)

Yes but I am afraid we cannot add your mother in law to the list, just her drinks. [:D] OMG subbieo I just read that, looked down at my windex and nearly fell off the chair laughing!! [sm=biggrin.gif]'Course I would have no difficulty in strapping you to anything darling. *weg*

In all seriousness, I wonder if others have noticed what I did a few days ago. The more we conversed like non-disabled (whatever the hell that means) folks, the number of assholes who simply fell away and stopped posting? I can hear them now........''well they're only talking about shit I do every day so this is boring now. They aren't fun to pick at anymore.''

And as to you little summerblossom I have watched your posts for quite some time now and even offered my hand in friendship should you have ever wanted to talk. You are notorious for creating conflict and then singing ''why's everybody always pickin' on me.''  The reason may just be that your handicap is that you need a wheelchair simply to push your attitude about in.

I noticed that as well. When we rose above feeling the need to "defend" ourselves for being disabled, it was no longer "fun" to needle us.

It's the same as when we were kids. My mom always told us, "If kids tease you about something, act as if you're proud of it." It worked. Of course, it was easy to be proud of being adopted. When kids said, "You're adopted!" as if it were something to be ashamed of, I'd say, "Yes, I'm adopted. MY parents WANTED me!" The other kids got the point fairly quickly.

SubbieO I was adopted as well. Was I ever proud of it. Kids didn't believe me so I was constantly parading them into the house for my mother's verification. They were amazed in a good way. I remember the school calling my mother in elementary school as we were talking about where babies come from. Some said they came from the hospital, a few said their mother's tummy and I proudly said the agency. The teacher tried to talk me into one of the other answers but I stuck to my guns and she called my mother. Here is how it went.

teacher:  I think your daughter may have a problem.
mom: Oh really?
teacher: Yes, today we began early and tactful discussions on where babies come from and she repeatedly said she came from the agency.
mom: Well........she DID come from the agency. She was adopted and we had taken her back to the agency at 4 years old to see the lady who worked with our adoption. Any questions??
teacher: Uhm....errr....no. Thank you Mrs ____

My daughter was a donor prenancy through artificial insemination----kids swore her "dad" deserted us or we were divorced and she was lying--she got to the point when they asked who her dad was, she said "pyrex"!

Wow! Another thing we have in common!

I was 4 when I was adopted, along with two biological siblings. 27 years later we met the other 4 siblings who had been adopted by other families. Then, sadly at my oldest sister's memorial service 22 years after that, I met my two youngest sisters, who had been born after our parents had deserted us.

My adoptive parents had a 13-year-old daughter, and my biological sister was also 13. I used to love telling my friends that Holly was 2 months older than Anne.

Well...I was just asked to come read this thread by MoGa...I have been friend with her going on 3 years now, (I do miss our 3 am WH runs).  Anyway, I knew her in RL way before she became blind and she has always and will always be such a strong woman and an inspiration to me.  She is one of my best friends and it saddens me what she has been going through over the last few years.  She has always tried to stay positive even through all of this.  I know that she would never expect anyone to treat her differently because of her handicap, I know that she wants equal treatment anywhere she goes.
Sadly though, there are a lot of people who do discriminate against the handicapped.  I worked with handicapped children and I saw how they were looked at when we took them out in public to do community work that was part of their classwork.  I can just imagine the look that was probably on that managers face.
I do agree about the costing more to live on the bottom floor, when I lived in an apt with my ex husband we had to pay $50 more a month for the ground floor apt, simply because I was pregnant and he was terrified of me falling down the stairs...I totally understand her fear of that as well.
My twin sister went blind temporarily a few years ago and I remember how she would stumble around her own home.  I would have to drive her places and "lead" her into the buildings, I am grateful that she did get her eyesight back and only wish MoGa would as well, but I know that is not going to happen.
I love you K and if there is anything that I can do...just let me know.

MoGa Dear, your new program is not picking up your typos, so some of your typing is garbled.

MistressOfGa -> RE: Paying To Be Handicapped (2/11/2008 1:01:59 PM)

My apologies. The trial period tan out on my jaws  I am using the ome that came with my puter :(

Aylee -> RE: Paying To Be Handicapped (2/11/2008 1:04:51 PM)

Hello All.

I have been reading this thread as it has progressed, mainly because it was started by MoGa.  I have yet to respond because frankly I had no advice to add.

But, I would like to say that I am thrilled that you have got your apartment and are all moved in.  I know that this last 12-18 months has been rather rough for you.

I am also pleased to see that this has become such a wonderful support thread.  It has seemed to me, that lately there are many threads are down right childish.  But the ladies in this thread do not need to be told to take responsibility for their lives and choices and to act like an adult.  That has been very refreshing.

I would also like to give a kudos to pup.  Boy, you are just fantastic!  Can I give him a puppy treat, MoGa?

MoGa, I am sorry that I have not called in months, but I have misplaced your number.  I will try and remember to ask pup for it when I see him on chat.

Lady Hathor, it is nice to see you posting again.  You are always a woman of grace and tact.

EvilGenie, I hope that this week goes better for you than last week.

Miss Harlet, my porch is always open for you, although it is rather cold right now.

Take care and be well.

Best,

Aylee

Now that I understand. That program on the computer, if it's the MSoft one, is OK in a pinch, but not for long-term use, IMO.

EvilGenie -> RE: Paying To Be Handicapped (2/11/2008 9:16:39 PM)

Hang on MoGa, I *may* be able to get you JAWS for free. Let me find out when I speak to my husband again at the weekend.

Aylee, I hope so too. Right now I am struggling.  My boss called last Friday and left a message that she can't make the schedule work when I already had it worked out FOR her! I am a bit in hiding but will call soon. My work week begins tomorrow night again and I have to get my rubbish together tomorrow and stuff. I am just very sad, valentine's is soon and it is only a preamble to spending our first anniversary apart and my nerve damage is shreaking as we've had a real bad cold snap. Hugs and gropes! [;)]
