tendersoul,

With the exception of Califchix observation re stylized nicks, most Dom's that are honest do not change there ID simply because it is reflective of their persona.

I don't think it likely that I would change my handle. Even if just because I would either lose contact with all the people I met, or I would have to find them all and inform them of my change. Neither of which seems worth the trouble of typing differnt letters in when I go to log on

she wonders of the Masters here.....do You change Your screen name with each new sub or slave You have?
with respect, atendersoul

I've only ever been known by two different names on the Internet as a Dominant.

The first name, Greyfang, reflected the fact that I have always felt older than I am...which sometimes makes itself known when I talk...

Then, my dominant practices ended.  I took a break.  I reflected on life.  I got into a REALLY BAD relationship [yes, vanilla].

When that relationship ended, I reflected again on who and what I am.  And I'm back.  As Lumus.  And probably always will be.

It's not my real name; I don't hide that...if people ask, I'll share it.  In the local munch they know me more or less only by my real name.  They would have no clue who Lumus is.   But then, that's a different dynamic, situational by geography and environment.

So, no, I won't change who I am if I were to have a failed D/s relationship [and as I'm planning to marry my girl this year, that's certainly not foreseeable!].  I will change it when I change.  It suits me.

I have always had Harlet in my name .. in one form or another .. many think it is because I dont know how to spell harlOt ... lol ....  It is usualy Lady Harlet but I couldnt get that name on CM for some reason so became MissHarlet .. but anyone searching for me anywhere knows that if they enter Harlet .. it will most likely lead to me..... It comes from my persona from working many many years in Renaissance Faires ... and dates back to the time I started in the lifestyle as a submissive in the old school way..... it suits me .. so I have never seen the need to change it... or lose it ..

I've been julietsierra now for about 10 years...it's the phonetic alphabet for the initials of my name. Most of the people around this area know me as juliet. It'd be real odd for me to come into a munch announcing "I'm now kajiratwinkletoes" Most people would continue to call me juliet. I'd continue to answer to it and about the only place I could see me actually being called kajiratwinkletoes in the event of a change such as that would be in private - where I'd more likely be known by my given name in the first place.

So no... while I don't use my given name in the bdsm public, I answer to juliet as easily as I do that given name - and often it all feels like the same name anyway...

I'll probably be juliet in another 10 years as well.

juliet

i giggled....

mama's been calling me twinkletoes since i was old enough to refuse to walk flatfooted.

kitten, who uses another name elsewhere but since it has "lady" in it, didnt use it here lest confusion abound...

Okay, I have to confess, I have changed my screen names a couple of times in my years in lifestyle forums and chats. Not to hide, not to pretend to be something I'm not, but more as a reflection of my growth. When I first found this lifestyle, I was subbiekat...then krazykat, which was also my CB handle a looooooong time ago...then I became eroskat, but spent too much time explaining THAT one...and now my nic reflects something that is sad in a it's duality, so we won't discuss that. But I still sign all of my emails and CMails with kat. Are you seeing a pattern emerge here?

kat (whose real name is Kathy )

No, my screen name is just that....mine.  My moniker came about completely independent of BDSM society or even Collarme for the matter.  People do act odd though with me sometimes because of the name "Deacon" even though it has nothing to do with religious reasons whatsoever, and its origins are instead from a character I once played.  I bring this to light because, if one discovered their chosen title had an unintended ill-affect, I could understand them wanting to change it, otherwise I'd say they are probably afraid/ashamed of their own self image.  Obviously, I'm generalizing in my theorum, but thats my two cents.

Ok atendersoul my nick or handle has not changed since I chose it. A handle is the only name you give yourself, so mine was choosen with great care and deliberation. I use an abbreviation because BlackPhoenix was taken in most sites. My name is a metaphor of my life with cycles of death and life, hope and dispair, light of the highest heights of ecstacy and the darkest depths of depression. I am a bird of fire with a core of darkness ever waring to balance nobility and love with cruelty and pain. The BlackPhoenix is also the symbol of Set formerly the god of kings of the lower nile before he was cast into darkness. The symbolism works on many levels....Sigh too bad I get so many email me asking if I am an african-american or if I live in Arizona.

I've been Bull since my nuts dropped... it's not simply a screen name or handle or ID, it is an age old nickname. It is who I am.

I'm the big ole cowboy type. It might have something to do with that.

Mooo,

Bull

No. I can see a sub/slave changing their name to mark their Owned status but a Dom? Mostly when they go changing their names regularly I suspect it to be more a case of having some reason to hide.
