It's not dieing so much that bothers me. It is the...missing out. If the world as we know it, ends? Well I'm not missing much am I?

I'm rather anticipating it all, myself.  The fireworks and everything.  Gonna be a hell of a light show, I hear.  *chuckle*

I shall have to disagree with the God part and such, but that is immaterial. My faith supports the exact same position: what we do is a choice, and we will face the consequences of our own choices and those of others (that's what karma really expresses); we can own it by being accountable for our actions and making our choices as free people; by discarding the useless fear of death, we can embrace life from a position of strength, rather than weakness; we can persevere, overcome and grow, and we can do it ourselves.

and so I am encouraged to reveal another point of my waffle; for one of the points was to generate consideration of our own personal death, by roundabout means certainly - and what that means for our lives, but without making it about the contentious issue of belief.

You know LadyE, I've come to the realization that I am not at all scared of dying. It is the idea of not getting enough living done before I kick off.

This is a personal quirk, but I've often thought that I would like to be there for the end of the world. Or at least, for the end of our world, small and insignificant as it is... I'd like to witness the greatest show ever. Another advantage (albeit, a selfish one): I wouldn't be carking it alone.

But there is, the universe started for me when I was born, and will die when I die.

The same is true for you (think Miss Brazil in Beetlejuice)

but as to the other, you are born, cum and cakk all on your lonesome, its a very personal thing.

True true true - the thing about 'not dying alone' refers to the 'group experience' - not to the personal one. If you know the entire world is coming to an end, you can't have any of these regrets people supposedly express when they're dying about 'the world continuing without me' and all that crap.

Not that I give a toss, really: I know that my death is a personal thing. In fact, I'm sort of looking forward to it, in a strange kind of way.

Well, thank you for the concern, but no. Albeit that my GP assures me I only have 40 years left at best!

I have confronted death and I have contemplated it. I have no fear of it and no hopes for after it. I have good personal conviction that this mere death is no end but also the same conviction that I shall not be reborn, whether here on Earth or in some afterworld. There is, was and only ever will be one of me.

What this means is that I have only this life. What it also means is that I can entirely discount the diktats of others as to how I should live it - its for me to decide. No authority of any religion, any form of philosophy or politics has any weight to it whatever in my decisions, except insofar as it might be agreeable to me. And what is agreeable to me is that which produces the best possible happiness for me - which is by no means a selfish endeavour, for I recognise that the happiness of others is and at the least can be important for my happiness. But I also know that I can only effect happiness for others according to my horizon of influence and their preference.

I'd be unrolling rubbers like Jay in Dogma on Bethany.

My personal .02........Fact is, given the situation, know what?  Fuck them safes.

The point of life?

To leave something of value behind when you pass on.

And not just a big pile of fertilizer.

I received the last rites at 17. It colored all my thinking for years.I am a bit surprised I lived as long as I have. Now it appears I will live long enough to regret not having a better retirement plan. The Gods are cruel!

right - I'm off to do something that makes me and some others happy; guitar practice (and drums and bass)

there's no point to it, but neither is it pointless

G'night all

Personally if the world was gonna end in 24 hours, I'd see how many people I could kill first. its not like they can hang me for it. J/k
