Change is not death, Ken.  A period of crisis is not the end of civilization.  These are the things that force us to evolve.

I'm going to put on my cold-blooded pragmatist hat and say that if half the world starves to death, the other half would be watching on TV.  Do you honestly believe we are just going to sit down and die?  The need will drive innovation and spur the development of new technologies and crops.

Algae farming is a good example.  The food product you get tastes like shit, but it will keep you alive and you can drive the delivery truck with the oil.  It loves a carbon rich environment.

I reckon history supports your viewpoint, Rich. Malthus knows a thing or two about this sort of thing.

greetings all,

i'm still wondering why we're arguing about the possibility of something maybe or maybe not causing drastic damage to the environment when there's all sorts of shit that's easily pinpointable that IS causing drastic damage to the environment, which we'd probably all agree - i think it's silly to talk about global warming when most people don't actually care about the issues they DO believe the evidence for.

respectfully,
annabelle.

A recent article in the NYTimes which describes, not surprisingly the degree of coverup instituted by ExxonMobil et al.  I get really aggravated when companies lie about stuff that they're taking a political stand on.

Essentially, the corporations that were sponsoring the contrarian view of global warming had internal memos saying that the contrarian viewpoint was not supported by the data from scientists working in these firms.
