I grew up to believe it was not proper for males to wear hats inside.
It actually bothers me to see males not remove their hats inside.
Does anyone else find this disrespectful or did we just faze into another era?

For me it's force of habit.  The Marines made it abundantly clear covers are not worn inside.

I find it disrespectful... when I go someplace and see guys wearing hats, I just wanna run over and snatch em off (of course, these days that would probably get me shot).

Same things with the pants hanging below the butt cheeks.

My husband is very very fond of his hats and frequently wears them inside.  If it would block the view of someone sitting behind us he removes it and he removes whenever we are eating.

I don't find it disrespectful.  He is a different generation than I am and many of his peers do the same thing.

You want to snatch those off, too?

People still wear hats? I’ve always wanted one of them bowler hats with the razor blade disk; like that man has in Goldfinger. Gooooldfingeeer he’s the man the man with the golden gun. I’m always mixing up the classics, it’s a problem.

Actually do people still take their hats off when a wedding procession drives past? Poor bloke, he is giving his life away in the name of love, he will never again have control of the TV remote. Sorry I meant funeral procession.

I have two reactions: either I wanna yank em down so the punk trips on them, or I wanna pull em up so high the kid sings soprano for a month.

I'm in the same boat with Celtic on this one.  Force of habit from service to remove a hat.

I was raised with it being considered inappropriate, so I go with that in formal situations.  I think the reasoning was that it is "disrespectful to the building" (as though the building were insurficient shelter to go without a hat).

Still, it's one of those mannerisms that my concern for is mild and passive.

I hear you; few things look stupider than that.

When I was in the Army, people got tickets for not wearing a hat in the exchange, wearing a hat in an elevator, wearing a hat indoors, and carrying kids and packages in uniform.

Yeah, hats inside bother me, especially in restaurants.  Oddly though, it's one of those things where I know it bugs me but I don't understand why (other than it is what I was taught).  So, just what is disrespectful about a guy wearing a hat inside anyhow?  I mean, I know it *is* but I don't have a clue as to why.  For that reason, I don't make a big deal out of it though I encourage those I'm in the position to influence to remove theirs.

I grew up with this belief, as well.  It doesn't bother me so much, however, but it leaves me with the impression that the person was either not taught much ettiquette or simply doesn't care.  In any case, it is not a favorable impression.

I've given up on the teen wearing the baseball cap, but I hate this routine of wearing the brim facing sideways. And thankfully he wears his pants up in public, inside they start off baggy and then come off. At some point his older sister announced that she had seen all his friends in their boxer shorts. Strange image that.

The older one rides horses, Western, and shows heavily. They wear the hats because there isn't anyplace to put them. You can't stick it on your lap, most restaurants don't have shelving for a big cowboy hat, etc.

However hats indoors don't bother me. Indeed, for religious Jews it is incorrect for an adult to be bare headed in the presence of the Lord. For Christians of course it is the other way around.

I think you're right about the hat in the presencs of the Lord, same thing with circumsisions but I'm glad I had one of those.
Maybe it all goes back to knights wearing their helmets to the dinner table.
