Flipping through the CM pages again has me giggling.  I think the most common spelling mistake I see here is the word

Tongue.

It is almost always spelled tounge.
What is your favorite misspelling?

It's not a CM mis-spelling, but it always amuses me:  I fish, and here in the NE, the striped bass has a fanatical following. For some reason, people insist on spelling it with two "p"s.

Some Illiterate Guy: were do U find strippers?
HandSolo: You could try The Sticky Poll in Providence.
SIG: uh? well wat do U use for bait?
HS: A fistfull of ones, or a baggie of coke.
SIG: ????

Oh Jesus, don't get me started...do you want them ranked alphabetically or in order of annoyance....

Now some of these aren't necessarily misspellings as much as grammatical misuse of homonyms, but they either piss me off or make me laugh, depending on the offender.

...there, their, they're
...your, you're
...affect, effect
...practice, practise
...quiet, quite
...obedience, obediance
...Jeff, Jefff, Jeffff

Did I miss any?

"Jesus".  I mean, if someone's going to freaking be a Christian, they should at least get the damn name right.

It's "Jebus".

As a geneous, I never mispell anything.

how about my favorite word?

my favorite word in the whole wide world that is invariable stated incorrectly even on the news and magazines, all over is "suffice".

Its not "suffice it" to say.  Its correctly said "suffice" to say.  LOL

Otherwise I am one of the worst spellers out here not bevause I am a poor speller but because I type pretty fast and I am to lazy to correct all the typos.  :)

Let's add idea and ideal to the list.  Also people, it is always let's, never ever lets because it is a contraction of let us.

"Principle" and "principal".

There's a book, "Partial Differential Equations: An Introduction", second edition, by Walter A. Strauss.  Guy's a well-known authority in PDE's, which is one of the more advanced fields in Math.  Still, the book had some mistakes in it, so many of those who studied from it (the first edition) came together and fixed it up, producing the second edition just last month.

And the opening chapter still refers to mathematical "principals".

Although there is a chance that it's meant in humor, or to make a point, like how I use "prejustice".  Just to be fair.  Still, I kinda doubt it.

a lot.  (it's not one word; it's two words.)

It's and its.

Not a spelling error, but people using "like" in place of said, thought, etc.

Around here, it just has to be consentual instead of consensual! AGH!!

Though I admit, plenty of the others cited here (oh yeah, that's another one, the misuse of cited vs sited vs sighted!) ... also get My tits in a tangle!
