thats just it..my dr's not making any suggestions... not offering any kind of medication. he says there are no medications to help me with my energy problems... oh really..what was i on when i was younger? medication.

when i was younger i was with one of the most highly rated hospitals in the world known as sick kids in toronto. now that im 18+ they wont take me anymore. i was a hell of alot healthier with that hospital and their dr's than their adult hospital right across the street from them.

so maybe...dr's care more for children then they do for adults?
i dont really want to change dr's myself...cause ive had him now for 17 yrs and my dr at sick kids who saved my life twice... recommended him.

hes definately not a people person...he just reads his charts after my tests are done...tells me there's no change...and off i go till next yr. but if i change dr's the new dr will do the same tests...so kinda pointless...unless the new dr knows of some medication that can help me.

yes im venting...sorta hijacking...

The "docs are quacks" comments don't help in this case. This is a girl who is stuggling with serious mental issues ... Feeding into her paranoia may make you feel better but it will only add to her long list of "issues" ...

Do you ever bother to read anything correctly? Baker Act type procedures require that someone be a danger to themselves or others, exactly as I said.

The OP claimed that she was involuntarily hospitalized when she was just fine, which is highly unlikely.
For anyone to support her notion that doctors are locking up people with dysmorphian issues is dangerous and reprehensible.

Just cuz I'm so helpful...You'll notice that criteria one does NOT say "must be currently underweight", but just says "refusal to maintain body weight." That can be interpreted more than one way. It could be six months of underweight, then a person gains just enough to hit 86% when they see the doctor, but declares their intent to go back... you could interpret that as "refusal to maintain." Also, the narrative for that chapter of the diagnostic manual says the 85% cited is just a guideline and not a strict rule. --Cali

Diagnostic criteria for Anorexia Nervosa:

1. Refusal to maintain body weight at or above a minimally normal weight for age and height (e.g., weight loss leading to maintenance of body weight less than 85% of that expected; or failure to make expected weight gain during period of growth, leading to body weight less than 85% of that expected).

2. Intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat, even though underweight.

3. Disturbance in the way in which one's body weight or shape is experienced, undue influence of body weight or shape on self-evaluation, or denial of the seriousness of the current low body weight.

4. In postmenarcheal females, amenorrhea, i.e., the absence of at least three consecutive menstural cycles. (A woman is considered to have amenorrhea if her periods occur only following hormone, e.g., estrogen, administration).

There are two types:

1. Restricting Type: during the current episode of Anorexis Nervosa, the person has not regularly engaged in binge-eating or purging behavior (i.e., self-induced vomiting or the misuse of laxatives, diuretics or enemas).

2. Binge-Eating/Purging Type: during the current episode of Anorexia Nervosa, the person has regularly engaged in binge-eating or purging behavior (i.e., self-induced vomiting or the misuse of laxatives, diuretics or enemas).

Technically, it doesn't. For instance, if I said "refusal to maintain speed at or below the speed limit", it doesn't mean I'm currently speeding, it may mean on this road trip I was speeding but right now I'm at the speed limit.

If it meant underweight, it would say "at or below", not "refusal to maintain".

now that she's gotten everyone debating the definitions and arguing over whether ot not docs are quacks, i would like to return to a question another poster asked. just what DO you want? sounds to me like you'd like to hear "poor baby, don't listen to those evil doctors, you're perfectly fine" sorry, not going to get that here. not from me.

you are suffering from mental illness, depression and paranoia come to mind from your posting; and you are suffering the physical effects of abusing yourself physically due to the original mental illness, bulimia. they add into your current combination of mental problems and the whole ball of wax feeds on itself. the doctors do not have these mental problems so their views of your physical and mental state are quite possibly more realistic than yours. listen to them. your self image might be best compared to a funhouse mirror, not really what it is. they can see the reality of your situation.

you want to practice medicine by self diagnosing and prescribing treatments and supplements. that is not going to work. your body needs to be slowly brought out of its current state of starvation mode, where it hoardes every calorie it can possibly save from the limited intake you give it. sorry, there is no overnight cure, no magic pill, it's going to be a long hard road and you may just get heavier before your body adjusts and you can eat healthy and exercise properly and lose weight the right way. in the mean time you will be damned lucky if you don't drop dead. dead is forever, you don't get to say "wait, i didn't mean it!" good luck, you'll need it.

the bulimia is just a symptom of my other illnesses...it's a coping mechanism (sp?) helps me deal with my anxiety...my orginal diagnoses is PTSD.

I'm not paranoid...at least my therapist says I'm not...I don't even take antipsychotics anymore.

you have to have a BMI under 17.5 to be diagnosed with anorexia. Above 17.5 is EDNOS. unless you purge on a regular basis, then bulimia. Bulimia doesn't have a weight limit.

If you don't want to go to the Dr..then don't go. You are an adult and can make that choice. I won't hold your hand and beg you to go....you already know the dangers that are possible for your body. Most with eating disorders know more about all of the problems than the doctors do.

Don't take this as being mean, but put up or shut up. I really don't know what you want others to do for you other than to beg you to go. I am not really into attention seekers, I have been through that too many times with friends that will im me to say they are going to cut, or just did. I have done the same thing in my past, so I know the way they think (not saying the way you think).

I ask you to get help, but I will not force you, nor can anyone else. I love you as a fellow human and as someone that is suffering the same thing that I and so many are. But you know as well as I do that until you want to get better, doctors can threaten you all they want and it won't make a difference. You have to take that first step and put the effort out. Maybe let them put you in an inpatient clinic. That or you can continue to vomit until your body gives out and tells you to fuck off.

I actually had to make the appointment at my eating disorders clinic myself. My therapist doesn't think my eating disorder is serious...he actually told me they wouldn't put me in the hospital, but well, they did. He never wants to talk about it either...changes the subject fast. I'm going to be changing therapists though...I'm gonna go back to Day Treatment a few days a week...will get me out of the house at least...

well, change your doctor then...if your mechanic wasn't doing his job, would you keep going to him? if your cleaning person wasn't doing their job, would you keep having them come over? if you went to a restraunt that served you the wrong food every time, would you keep going there? you don't like the service your getting from a person....stop going to them....

oh thats the problem... you don't want to change doctors...so it's not really the doctor that is the problem, it is your unwillingness to change...or do the footwork to find a new doctor...or go back to that really great doctor and ask for a referal to another doctor because this one just isn't working for you....so, perhaps not all docs are quacks, perhaps you're just unwilling....maybe when the pain of staying in misery gets greater than the pain of the uncomfortableness of change you will do something different...in the mean time...no sympathy from me...sorry to put it so blunt...

It's quite callouse sounding of me I know, but I feel if people insist on hurting themself and slowly killin themself by ignoreing dr's advice and refusing to get help, and refusing to do the simplest things to help themselves out, let them, and let the dr's spend the energies and efforts on people who want to take care of themselves, and are willing to help themselves out.

do you know anything about what she eats? i happen to, and i know all the work she is doing to become more healthy, all i have heard from you is "validate my need to stay sick"...and not all fat people eat just junk food...i weigh 285lbs and have lost 90lbs because i eat more, and some of that is junk food...i eat on a regular basis (3 to 4 times a day 1500 to 2500 calories a day) so my body doesn't think it is starving and it metabolizes the calories it takes in...sometimes i have to stay up an extra hour or two to force a meal into myself to make that 1500 calorie mark...but i don't want to start gaining weight again...i wear a size 22 now...i look better than i have in 6 years...but if i loose much more on my hips my hip bones will be showing...its a bitch having my body...but i have to accept my body type...and the way my metabolism works...and work with it...
