Well what did YOU say about me for my spelling of Vampyre? And then what did you say and assume of me due to my spelling? All the while your only reason you can come up with for the non-existence of vampires is that there is no scientific proof of them. When I brought up the idea of germs you came back with the whole thing that its not the same thing. Yet if we were back in those days and I told you they existed just like the Earth is round youd say that arguement is crazy. So does God exist? Is there proof of him?

The belief in a flat earth is largely something that didn't happen among knowledgeable men.  It's a myth that everyone believed the Earth was flat until Columbus disproved it.  Yes the belief that microorganisms caused disease was heavily disputed when the arguments began to surface.  A theory that microorganisms existed was based in actual science, not folklore.  A belief in vampires is a matter of faith, not science.

Vampires are based on nothing more than stories.  You don't have to offer me absolute proof, but at least make a logical argument with valid premises that actual, in the flesh, supernatural beings exist.  You can label any pychological or physical condition vampirism all you want, but that does not make it so.  When you say that since you can't disprove it, than they must exist is a logical fallacy.

WAIT!  Im just wondering...when did anyone say that since you can't disprove it, then they must exist?  I remember something to the effect of "could" exist.
Did we just argue over your misunderstanding???
Oh wait, I think I said that already.  Thanks for proving my point.

Have you actually looked at any of the current acdemic research into the "modern vampire community"?  It's quite interesting stuff.  There is certainly no evidence of anything supernatural or even medically spectacular going on, but I think the case so far is pretty damn good for a clinical condition.  If you have a better label for that condition than "vampirism", feel free to suggest it.  The medical community recognizes "lycanthropy" as a clinical condition without anyone needing to believe in physical transformation.  Based on the preliminary results, I would say that "vampirism" will most likely be recognized as a clinical condition by the next edition of DSM.

Vampires are likely to be quite real, in the sense that at least some of them are not just making up their cravings for blood,  but they're not supernatural so much as clinically diagnosable.  In my humble opinion at least; the data isn't quite all in yet.

Beowulf tore off the arm of the nonhuman "supernatural" being Grendel and this arm was then hung from the ceiling of the royal hall for all to see.

You did say that in effect.  I said they didn't exist, and they don't.  When someone makes a fantastic claim, it's up to them to prove it not the other way around.  I guess they don't teach that at community colleges in California.  I'm done with this idiotic argument.  I'll make sure I bring my holy water and wooden stakes with me today just in case though.  I'll pack some silver bullets just in case I run into any werewolves.

No not really.  People who believe they are vampires are no different than people who believe they were impregnated by aliens.  They're loons.  I wasn't talking about people with emotional problems.  I was discussing the topic posted in the thread about whether actual vampires existed.  Of course they don't exist anymore than magical trolls exist.  I am aware that there are people who drink blood.  They may crave it a lot.  There are people who eat dirt too.  Are they worm monster alien hybrids?  There are people who eat feces.  There are people who do all sorts of crazy things, but that isn't proof that characters from fairy tales exist in the modern world.  I don't give much credence to pscychobabble.  The vampire community is made up of people with a mild to overly obsessive fascination with a fictional character.  The mild ones don't bother me.  They are comparable to trekkies or people that are involved with SCA.  I don't see anything wrong with role playing or the like.  People who actually believe they are vampires or that vampires are walking around are loons however.

Saying something does NOT exist is a more fantastic claim than saying something does.

What proofs have you for your fantastic claim that vampires do not exist? Keep in mind that absence of proof is NOT proof of absence, and thus is woefully inadequate to support your thesis.

SlaveBoyForYou:

You seem to care a lot about education credentials, and think they somehow relate to intelligence.  Okay.  I published an assembly language computer program nationally when I was thirteen years old.  My first "real" job was as a Latin teacher at a private school.  I was hired into that position at the age of sixteen.  I have studied at "premier" academic institutions, and in my current position, I think up things no one else has ever thought of before.  I do that for a living.

Two of the best posters on CM believe they are psychological vampires.  I'll probably meet one of them within the next few months.  Am I going to ask for a demonstration?  Hell,  yes.  What makes a "best poster" to me?  Someone who actually demonstrates basic life-understanding, and whose goal in posting is to help others, not to belittle them.

From your tone of writing, I have to ask myself if you have accomplished anything beyond getting a degree from an institution you consider reputable.  I've learned a lot of shit in my life.  Maybe 5% I learned in school.  One thing I've learned though: vampires may not exist, but pompous, arrogant assholes walk among us for sure.

Spend some time and effort to fix yourself, pal.

MasDom -> RE: Vampires (bunked or debunked) (2/27/2008 9:29:07 AM)

-Basic truth on genetic variable for futer vampyrism.-

There is an illness that makes people want protein obsessively, and they need to get it in certain ways.
Other wise their flesh dies, and they go completely mad.

Its a real illness, and most don't prefer the pills given for it.
But since that illness exists there was a study that provided some odd tidbits of information.
Since humans will eventually inbreed not by choice, but by natural surge of genetic materials.
Its assumed a natural illness like this will start popping up more often.
Because as genetic material is removed due to the process, or made defunct the natural tendency is to replace it by any means possible.
And beyond sex sadly that method usually involves eating sufficient materials, Drinking blood or anything that comes close.

So in a way its true well most likely become vampires, or zombies/Ghouls if you like...
Perhaps the rise in crazed goth kids makes sense now that I think of it.
Also how many people on collar me complain of being so anemic, or having joined the crowd when it comes to the cravings.

WHAT exactly makes you think I went or go to a community college?  What makes you think I go to college at all?  What makes you think that I have not already completed my needed education and choose to take classes on a whim to further my knowledge?  What makes you think one needs a degree to argue against something a moron says?  I have given no information about myself or my beliefs except for that I think closed minded people are what stops scientific discovery of many things, including those called "supernatural" for all we know, "supernatural" beings DO exist and HAVE existed longer than "US" which would make US the supernatural beings.  But since you know EVERYTHING due to your vast knowledge gained from books and seemingly no REAL LIFE experience, I guess we should all just follow you like blind sheep.  I am sure that it was once a crazy thought that we would be able to communicate, in real time, on something called a laptop with people across the world.  By the same token, there could be things out there that are considered CRAZY to wonder about or allow the possibility to enter our mind of such things we have not seen.  You have no idea what my beliefs are, don't claim to understand anything about me based on what you interpret my text to mean. You came in here with a closed mind and seem to insist on leaving it the same way.  Those closed minded people are what stop the world from growing.  But, hopefully, there are more of us who can say "maybe" and "could be" and "just about anything is possible".  I feel for anyone you might educate during your lifetime.  If ones education were to stop with yours....well...poor them.  You seem to have no desire to inspire or be inspired.  I wonder what you consider the point of your life.  Actually, forget it.  I'm sure it is a bore to discuss.
Someone, PLEASE gag him.
There is one thing to say for you.... If your ignorance were to be measured, you would definitely score high.  If that is what you aspire for, well you have definitely met your goal.
Im bored with you.

This whole thread is mythstifying [:D] . Incidentally, I love vampires. Dance of the Vampires (Polanski)has to be one of the best vampiric comedies ever: and you get to see Sharon Tate get spanked. Pure delight.

Oh and, Good morning dear!

Termyn8or -> RE: Vampires (bunked or debunked) (2/27/2008 9:40:47 AM)

Kit, you might want to try to get your hands on a movie called "Innocent Blood". I thought it was pretty interesting. I think I have it but I think it is on (ugh) beta.
