I've heard it's people getting together and doing bdsm online.  Is that true?

I guess online would be called a crunch?

Would it be OK to find another female sub to pick me up and bring me home again? That should be fairly safe, especially if we get to know one another first.

another solution might be to contact the organizers of the munch through their website, or however you found out about it, and explain your situation and they can connect you with someone who lives in your area of town and you can meet before the munch for coffee or a meal using your own transportation, whatever that might be, then get a ride to the munch with that person...it might be a female submissive or a couple or perhaps even a single male dominant, but the organizers of the munch would probably know these people in person and hopefully they have enough integrity to set you up with a safe person/people

good luck

i have attended 2 munches and found them to be positive experiences. we meet at a local restaurant and use the "computer group, meet & greet" cover.
and yes, sub on wheels, many do ask for rides when the meeting is posted. i have found everyone to be friendly and helpful. they may not all be people i would choose as friends but it is nice to talk with others who understand bdsm even if it is not the main topic of conversation.
it can be lonely in the vanilla world and going to amunch makes you feel less different.

I don't like going to munches, but here is a suggestion...

I meet many ladies that find me very intimidating as they learn about me. I don't fault them, I try to understand. I know I am a very mentally and physically intimidating person. I have suggested that the lady I am speaking attend a local munch and I will be there. This usually will be provide a safe compromise for meeting offline and seeing that, although intimidating, I am safe.

The most difficult thing is that initial transition from online to offline, a munch may help make that easier.

SubbieOnWheels,
Hi, its very acceptable to ask the ones in charge of the munch about rides and maybe having an escort. That is very acceptable especially for newbies to the group. In fact, I was given a "big sister" to help me and a Dom was appointed to make sure no one bothered me...kinda like under His protection. And guess what? No one bothered me! I was perfectly fine and was respected.
By the time of the second munch I was comfortable and alright to be by myself. So, just ask about having someone help you. Most would be glad to lend a helping hand.

NJDiscipline,

Munches can be intimidating to girls. Man! I thought I dont know these people and they get together for parties..BDSM parties!...Yikes!..
And its true it is less fearsome to meet Men at the munches and just slowly get comfortable with the idea. There was absolutely no pressure and it was a great experience. I fully understand meeting dates there.

There are several different types of Munches for those who have never been to one.

There is the Social get to know people munch. those are usually a coffee klatch, cocktail party like atmosphere, mingle, chat and meet. Many of these are held in restaurants, in street clothing, and often in a room reserved just for the group.

There is the Educational Munch. These can be a lot of fun and as the name implies demos and how to's are a focal point for them. they can cover everything from Sharps, Fire, Piercing, Shibari, and more. The members who practice that art and are most competent in it do the Demos. One Munch I was involved in was fortunate to have Midori do the Shibari demo, but that was long ago and far away..sigh. Oh, so anyway this type of Munch is a good place to learn the ropes so to speak.

Play Party Munches, often groups that fall into the above types will have get togethers/sponsored events at local BDSM Clubs. It may be held on an off night for the club or during regular or before business hours. These parties are an ideal time and place to play with someone for the first time as there are others around if there is a problem.

If you contact the organizers of the Munch they can usually help with making you feel welcome, and often in transportation and accomodation of durable medical equipment. Some places don't have elevators or easy access, but they will find a way for you to attend and enjoy.

Missaidan, tonight's munch was alot of fun! We had about 15 people there, and I got to finally meet the local community. I guess KUFS is having a class on the 15th that I'm gonna try to make it to.

Educational Demo's and Play Parties typically aren't called munches, they are called Educational Demo's and Play Parties, to prevent confusion....Munches are socials where you eat...I have rarely eaten a meal at a educational demo or play party, though there were snacks, but i have eaten a meal at every munch i have been to (when i was hungry anyway)...

personally, i like educational demo's and play parties much better than munches...there is a purpose to being there other than to socialize...and i usually socialize with the people i want to actually socialize with at times other than the munches....

My group occasionally has crossovers.  Normal munches for us are held in a private room at a local restaurant.  Because our people are similarly bent in mind and spirit this can carry over into spontaneous perverted shopping after lunch, in mass.  The last time I am more than certain the store employees caught on to our . less than normal intent for their items.
The cashier kind of hinted that she bought a crop like the one I purchased for an uptight friend of hers.
Occasionally we find that sitting and eating is not enough contact.  This time around we will hold a meet and greet munch instead of a simple food one.  This way we can get up, mingle, laugh, and even do some karaoke.  It is true that there are many munches where you just don't want to hang out .. but if you find one that does, socialise!  We have a lot of fun in ours.

Are you kidding me??? Why would they do that when things can be done online and without the hassles of moving from your armchair??? Have everyone in front of your screen is much easier then having to get up and meet them...

christine, munches esp. for the under 40 crowd are usually called something like 'early bloomers'. Almost any city that has an early bloomers munch is going to have a, or more than one, more general munch. Sometimes younger people can feel marginalized in this lifestyle by those of us who are only interested in someone a bit older. Also, when I lived in Philly, I had several friends who got outed to thier adult children, and vice versa, when they ran into each other at a munch, play party or other lifestyle event. Generally, they sat down together later and 'divided up' the local community - If you won't show up at munch A I won't show up at munch B, ect. Early Bloomers Munches help with that.

chellekitty, one of my favorite munches from my past was the Atlantic City Munch Group. They held thier munches in a V.A. rental hall, had a pot luck dinner, and always had a demo.
Many munch groups hold parties, sometimes demos ect, but usually at a different time and place than the munch. Often there are rules - how long you have to be showing up at the munch, ect. - before you can attend a party. If there is a local dungeon, the munch might have dungeon nights, when the participants get together at the dungeon.
The format of different munches is different. some have question answer or other formal discussion periods, some just sit around and chat. But it is always fun, IMO, anyway - I am a very socail person!

almost every group that i know of that has a meeting for educational demo's (all one of them), disucssion groups (this was not mentioned because the poster i responded to did not mention them as a "different type of munch", and ones that host play parties have a munch to go along with it, the only exception being a few of the discussion groups combine their discussion and meal meetings...and usually because they can be done anywhere - no privacy required, other than keeping your voice down and maybe trying to sit in a private room if you are in a restraunt...

the munch is where you sit around and eat or drink and talk and you get to know what is going on around the area, if there is a demo, in my expereince, it is short (10-15 min) and meant as a teaser to encourage you to go to other things

discussion group - you gather around with a topic to discuss...this is different than a munch...munch=socialize, discussion group=discuss, if you try to hold a discussion durring a munch, people will consider you rude and elitist, if you try to socialize durring a discussion group people will consider you rude and immature, the first won't get you repremanded, but the second most likely will...however, there is usually a time before and after, and perhaps durring a break to socialize, if you wish...

educational demo night...they do actually have these in some places...an hour for socializing (or something like that) and then 2 to 3 (depending on the topic) for education and then demonstration...

play party - people get together and play with their signifigant others, with other peoples signifigant others, with their insignifigant others, with other peoples insignifigant others, with singles, with multiples, heck they just play...and some watch then go in the bathroom and jack off....ok so i put in the last part as a supposition, i don't know that for sure...but most groups that have play spaces in public venues (other than those lucky enough to have a public or semi-public dungeon) will not tell you where the play party is until they meet you at a munch, and all play parties held in a private home that i have been to, you had to be interviewed and sponsored by someone you met at a munch...where they were doing nothing more than...socializing...

and one group can host all types of meetings....just not typically all 4 at the same time, or even on the same day...the most i have seen is you are required to go to the munch to buy the play party tickets and the munch is held the same evening of the play party...in a different location and venue...its like treasure hunting....

take care, good luck, so long, farewell...
chelle
