I have attended about 4 munches in the year and a half I've been active here, mostly because I live in a sleepy community. So far it has mostly been a collection of the same few people, and a few have been cancelled for lack of people. SO I got off my butt and am organizing one for this saturday! So far I have gotten eleven replies! Now I only expect 1/2 of them to actually show, but I hope it is going to be a hit. I am going to get all gussied up and have myself a good time!

Are you here for the bible-study? LOL, will have to use that ;)

[grin] I'm suppressing the urge to ask if you expect 5 1/2 people.

I just want to thank everyone here for their helpfulness. As a result of following the link that was offered, I have made contact with a social group that meats fairly near where I live. The person who responded to my email said he would send my request for transportation to the mailing list, and I should have no trouble getting there.Woo-hoo! i'm gonna get to a munch!

Educational Demo's and Play Parties typically aren't called munches, they are called Educational Demo's and Play Parties, to prevent confusion....Munches are socials where you eat...I have rarely eaten a meal at a educational demo or play party, though there were snacks, but i have eaten a meal at every munch i have been to (when i was hungry anyway)...

personally, i like educational demo's and play parties much better than munches...there is a purpose to being there other than to socialize...and i usually socialize with the people i want to actually socialize with at times other than the munches....

Different  areas of the country I suspect call them different things. Here in Florida they are called Munches. The one I am attending this Saturday has a Needle Play Demo, and we all bring food for a pot luck. The last one didn't have a demo, did have an auction, and food included, spaghetti and meatballs, fried chicken, cocktail franks and beans, cookies, chips, cake, soda, coffee and tea.

Play parties are the same here..though usually in someones home. The ones I have attended at Clubs, we have also taken food if it is privately booked for the afternoon. Last one I attended was a Kinky BBQ at Masters Quest.

In March our Munch is having a Hidden Kink trip on a casino boat. We will be booking a room on there, and food will be available. Since it is hidden kink it is what is going on under normal clothing that is the "contest".

that is different goings on put on by one group...one group can hold different kinds of meetings, munches, discussion groups, demo's, play parties...but unless the group is called "Munches" ...they are not all munches...i can verify that with people in your community, but i will need a week or so because they are people i have met at national conventions and i only have their email and they need time to get back to me due to having other things going on...

They are called Munches as are the groups.
I was one of the organizers for the original Ocala Munch, where we had demos as well as just social gatherings. The Orlando Munch is largely Social though they will head over to a party or club as a group.

Same for the Tampa and Bradenton Munches, mostly social with heading off to clubs, houses or parties afterwards. Those two tended to be family friendly, don't know if they still are, I haven't been there in a while.

FSC the munch I am involved with currently, is a Munch, incorporated and holds Demos with food. We also hold Coffee Nights at a Denny's where we can just sit, chat and have fun, no kink.

I know the one of the Jacksonville Munches also held classes and demos, not sure if they still do, it's been a while since I got up that way. The Gainesville Munch also used to hold demos as well as just social gatherings.

Not every area operates the same. The best way to find out what types of Munches or gatherings are available in an area is to check out http://www.drkdesyre.com/meetppl/orgs/orgs.html or http://phoenixdragon.dreamknight87.com/nmp.htm and ask the contact person about the rules and atmosphere.

my basic point is incorporating food with a demo doesn't make it a special kind of munch, it makes it a demo where food is eaten...serving food at a play party doesn't make it a special kind of munch, it makes it a play party where food is served...

Whatever it's called, if food is served, I'm there!

True, but if it is organized by the munch group, business of the munch group is conducted or the munch group calls it a munch with demo..or an educational munch..it's a munch.

Does it really matter what they call it as long as people can attend and enjoy?

if your unnecessarily confusing people just so that you can prove you were right, yes it matters...in ever group i have been a part of (that is 12 that i can think of off the top of my head in San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and Phoenix, Az - not just one small area) a munch is where you socialize, in every past posting on "what is a munch" and it comes up on a regular basis, a munch is where you socialize, and by socialize i mean get together in vanilla clothing and talk with other people who are into kinky things, and it may or not be about kinky things, usually not...just because one group does it their own way does not create a whole new group for the community as a whole...because me and my friends can get together and have a roasting munch, it doesn't create a whole new type of munch...it just means thats what our group does...and i won't present what one group does to a new person looking for information about the lifestyle because it creates confusion...if someone had told me that there were all these types of munches, and i had this false information (for the areas i am in) when i went to the leader of my local groups and asked what kind of munch it was, and they said "it's just a munch"...i might have never gone back...

OK, the whole point of calling it a 'munch' is to use the food reference to comunicate that it involves a vanilla social setting like a restaurant, so that new people will be able to ease into things in a more comfortable frame of reference.
There are no doubt exceptions, but I don't believe for a second that Florida or anywhere else is having Midori truss new people up in the back room at IHOP.

And in a thread where new people are asking about what goes on under the generally accepted heading of  'a munch', stroking one's ego by linking  all sorts of fantastic experiences to what usually occurs at munches is less than helpful.

I've heard it's people getting together and doing bdsm online.  Is that true?

don't believe the tabloids......i don't go to munchies and only do private house parties but a munch is what the name suggests...a delicious cross between a lunch and a meet where everything tastes better than in the vanilla world

We have had two successful Goddess Worship Munch`s this month. Some feet rubbing, hand feeding , mimosa`s and heavy discussion of different lifestyles. No male masculines and no sissy`s or maids.Just sexy women being worshiped by men who love Women. The result is "Master Lens Training Day" where all are invited subs/slaves, sissy`s, maids, Doms, Domme, and Masters, This Sunday at 11 A.M. for a hands on workshop. There were so many questions we felt an info lunch is the best thing to do. If any would like to come please contact me. For full live feed and audio ha ha contact me.

Actually, no it wasn't the back room of an I-Hop. It was the catering hall/back bar (a seperate building) of a Leather bar called the Purple Cow in Ocala. We had it privately for the entire day from 1 until 6 PM. i believe the bar is now a Gentlemen's club, or it could have gone back to being a Leather bar by now. It keeps changing hands.

FLOG is the name of the local Gaineville munch. (Florida Lifestylers of Ocala and Gainesville).
We have munches (meet and lunch) at a local restaurant. Everyone is invited. Private Play parties takes place afterwards by invitation only at different members' houses. Street attire is worn at the munch and entrance at the play parties. Then, if one chooses, clothing is optional.

We also have subbie dinners on different nights at different restuarants. Its a fun time where only subbies (and sometimes switches) meet. We discuss BDSM and anything and everything else. Males and females subbies are included but the Dominants do not attend.

There is also a sister group for the younger crowd (21-35). Some prefer just being around their own age group.

Also, strict rules of protocol are observed. i.e. no touching other's property without permission..

A munch is a restaurant where people go and they make sure they do all the "don't do's". So make sure you keep your manners as to : burp frequently, stick your fork into everybody else's plate to have a taste, so next time you attend you will make sure your order the right meal, Try to talk when your mouth is full of food (it helps others to see what your munching on at the time), always offer to assist the Ladies when sitting (make sure when She tries to sit you pull the chair right back). Clap your hands often to attract the waiters attention. Chose the bottle instead of the glass. A tip : Make sure you finish earlier then the rest and tell them your excused as you need to go to the toilet. Ofcourse the wise choice would be to walk straight out the door, if they ask you where you going when walking out just mention to the reception that the rest will be taking care of your bill, just so you don't make it as obvious drop your spare change in the waiters tips collection pot
