Status: offline 		I heard a lot from my ex husband (before he was my husband) about all the clothes and jewelry he had bought his former girlfriends.  It was appealing to me but it was not what actually "lured" me. 

I never saw any of that stuff.  I heard a lot about what he used to do, and a lot about what he planned to do, but in the present...well that was a different story. 

You are right to ask how you will be treated and what your submission to that person will look like.  Gifts are nice treats but they do not provide for overall needs.  I would look at someone like that rather skeptically, myself.

I think the problem for people and that goes for s-types and d-types is that there are people who expect an awful lot - with so many dominants wanting tributes - submissive get burned and with so many 'princess' type submissives or those that are just in it for the easy ride - which does happen a lot - some dominants get into the mindset that they have to 'proove' they can provide and give,give,give.  Which is fine if that is your kink, but it's a bit of a mindblowing realisation to come across a s-type that wants to submit and not just want to be 'cared' for (not sure if that makes much sense either) - so you do find a growing amount of d-types who are extravagent.  I don't believe it's a BDSM thing, I believe it's a general thing, because people want moremoremore and where credit (was) easily available and advertising leads people to believe you 'must' have this latest thang.
But then I could be over analysing.

Status: offline 		If I accepted the "gifts" offered to me in the hopes of making me his sub, I would not respect the d-type. Therefore the process would backfire.

(I did have one d-type say he would pay off all my debts, including the monster hospital bill. I declined. I'm going through bankruptcy to rid myself of the debt, but I have my own self-respect because I looked at all the options and made that choice.)

It is not you submit to me so you get gifts he does it because he loves me.  I am not saying he will buy me a new car, but if i neeed money i am sure Master would give it to me.  Not as a bribe just because i needed it.

Status: offline 		I've experienced it with potential Doms in the past, but it's usually more subtle - something like what a great car they drive, house they have, vacations they've taken.  Something to hint that they have money and don't mind throwing it around if need be.  ::meh::  I can do without.  It's the gifts that don't cost a dime that mean the most to me.

Status: offline 		It is human nature from both roles and genders to want the other to be dependent or show their other in some way qualities they like in themselves to subconsciously help the other like/love them more. Some of those things may come off as shallow or wrong but many do not and the intent is actually quite sweet if you think about it.

Now obviously one doing that to get you to feel that way or for you to commit to something is a big red flag. But when it is not done out of an intentional conscious angle I see this as just natural human behavior when a person has feelings for another and sometimes acts in an overt manner to show the other what they have in front of them. Just a little peacock showing their feathers and going I am very good for you!

I've noticed alot of middle aged guys doing it. And it's the boys and girls around my age i've noticed..who tend to be looking for that "sugar daddy" type thing.

There's another angle to this, which is that some people find it very difficult to voice emotions like love. Giving gifts, even money, can be a demonstration (for them) of the love they feel but can't express.



(Fortunately I have no such problem Cali, so no car from me - I'll tell you I love you as often as you like. And Aileen, and GT and lauren and ....)
 
(StormSlave - any chance for us if I could wheedle the Yugo off Cali for you?)

I have no need, nor any desire to imagine myself with a person who feels the need to try and buy me or impress me with such nonsense.
