ORIGINAL: seeksfemslave Why does it follow that politicians should make the choice? I expect the "Arties" would be first in line Have a referendum. Thats what I say ! That should at least give Paul Gascoigne a chance. No - a referendum would be taken over by the political parties hellbent on having one of their "worthies" put in place. There are no nationwide organisations, other than political parties (and perhaps the likes of the WI) who have anything like the machine necessary to publicise a candidate widely enough to gain enough votes. Please try again ideological republicans, and remember "different" is not "better". I'm not bothered at all whether its the house of Windsor/Saxe Coburg thats head of state, but I certainly am not interested in changing things just for the sake of change, and replacing one set of problems with another thereby.
